Magnolia Campground at Hixson Farms

Janna was the perfect host! My grandson loved camping near all the animals, and was thrilled to be invited to bottle-feed the Highland calf! He met donkeys, goats, cows, mini horses, bunnies, and chickens, and loved having the farm dogs follow him around. The site was perfect, although unlevel (bring lots of leveling blocks), with 30 amp electric, water, and sewer. A fire pit and picnic table completed the beautiful site under the magnolia tree. We can't wait to go back again, and highly recommend this farm campground!

Took my six year-old granddaughter for her first camping trip here and we had so much fun! The animals were, of course, the highlight of our stay, but we also loved the accommodations and safety aspect of staying on Jannas property. 10 out of 10 recommend!

Farm Camping Is Awesome!

Janna was super sweet and was quick to get us all set up! We tent camped but ended up in the first rv spot because it was a slow night and that space was most convenient for us. We absolutely LOVED having the donkeys, mini horses, and kittens running up to our tent and spending time with us. The kittens even slept with us because they didn’t give us a choice; It was adorable. We ended up with escaped goats running around at the end and our six year old loved the baby one. This site was super close to some amazing and inexpensive restaurants and Cloudland State Park. It’s definitely on our list to come back to!

Fantastic Farm Animals!

I had the absolute best time camping here with my best friend and my two-year-old daughter. We were the only campers and were treated by the ponies and donkeys grazing in our tent pasture. The Highland cows were as cute as could be and very close by, as was a stunning, large cow. Janna was incredibly nice. Responded fast to any message and gave us tours around the animals and to the back of her house, where the goats and pigs were staying. We got the whole place to ourselves, but there would’ve been plenty of room if other campers were there too. Having a picnic table to use was a nice treat (and safe haven for my toddler who was scared of the dark animals). The bathroom was clean and wonderful to have close by. My friend slept perfectly but my 2 year old and I were up late with kittens climbing over the tent. It was mostly funny since they were so cute, and I don’t expect to sleep perfectly when camping anyways. They eventually settled, on our tent, and slept directly above my friend’s head. The memory of that and stories to tell completely make up for the late night. My daughter never quite warmed up to it, but now that we’re back home, she’s talking nonstop about the ponies and donkeys and cows and how much she loves them. Throughout our stay, she would randomly yell, “I’m having so much fun!!” Despite being stranded on the picnic table LOL. Cannot wait to come back!!!!

Perfect for kids!

10/10 recommend! We are first time tent campers with two kids and booked this thinking it would be a good and easy intro to camping for us. It was easy to get to, the host responsive, has a bathroom within walking distance and lit up at night and easy to see with cute twinkle lights in the trees. The best part is the animals. I didn’t realize we would literally be sleeping in the field with donkeys and miniature horses. They were absolutely adorable and the kids loved petting them. They are like big dogs lol. I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and they were all standing outside the door just waiting to be pet. On the other side behind a fence there were adorable cows and goats. We also saw two kittens, dogs and a puppy. There was a concrete mixer Tonka truck there that my son loved playing with as well as a ton of gems and rocks under the tree with a gem identification book that my daughter loved going through to try and identify. There is also a large tree swing. We used the fire pit to roast s’mores, they have firewood bundles right there where you can Venmo the host. We also ordered a dozen eggs from them. We had a great experience and will definitely be back. Great family memories the kids will never forget!

It was a cute little place. The cows were so adorable. Easy to find, the host was very open to communicating, and 10 mins away from town. We ended up forgetting an adopter. We got very lucky to have stores so close.

The host was very kind and the kids loved seeing the farm animals (they stayed fenced the entire time, unlike in most of the pictures). Unfortunately, this campsite wasn’t as private as we had hoped; it is right off the road so you hear cars passing, the main house overlooks the sites, and other campers are nearby. We were also kept awake from 3-4AM the one night we stayed because the owner’s dog was barking continuously, leaving us exhausted the next morning. On the plus side, it has a nice bathroom, an outdoor shower, and is very close to cloudland canyon for those who like to explore parks.

I think Janna has a great vision with having the hip camp on her farm. The area is gorgeous and peaceful. My suggestion would be to keep the weeds down at the camping sites and misc items picked up. The bathroom was clean when we arrived but not checked during our time. The fee is the same as a state park and those minimum are required.

Fantastic Stay!!

We had a great time staying at the farm! The animals were awesome for the little ones to see every day, a huge field was perfect for tossing a frisbee, playing croquet, or lounging and gazing at the stars Electrical, water hookups (repaired dripping), and dumping station were all operating fully with no issues. We saw Janna everyday doing work around the property and answered any questions we had. Highly recommend staying at their homestead.

I've absolutely loved my experience at Mangolia Farms. It was quiet, pieceful, tucked away on a huge piece of property with over 40+ different types of animals from highland cows, donkies, horses, chickens, dogs, etc. It was perfect for one night or an extended stay. Free wifi is a plus! Perfect for tent or rvs. Had a proper bathroom and an outdoor shower. I pretty much had the entire place to my self during my stay! I also got to meet the cutest 12 week old pup too. I would highly recommend Mangolia Farms if you are in the area!

Janna's farm was a great place for me to get away for a weekend. Solitude, solo tenting, but still having access to Chattanooga for day trips was a great way for me to spend four days. I even took a crocheting class from Janna, she was a great teacher!

Host was super friendly and welcoming The property is beautiful and the kids loved the animals! The bathroom and outdoor shower were both in good working order The water was leaking so constantly running for site 1 and the driveway in was very tight - there is a low hanging tree right along gate so if you have a tall trailer be prepared for it to rub against your trailer We unfortunately had change in plans and issues with tires so booked 2 nights and only stayed one night so for us it was an expensive hip camp stay

Very nice but dated

I love the idea but this facility fell short of expectations. The site was on the side of a pasture which is really nice. Some animals walking around, goats and chickens as described in the post. My issues are the area around your site. Is overgrown and not maintained. There was an old trailer behind us. Was expecting a place to sit like in the pictures but the picnic table was in the overgrown area, also the lights in the trees are almost touching the ground which was more of a nuisance in the windows at night then ambiance. The fire pit did not have any chairs except one that was broken and dirty. We paid for eggs to be delivered which was never received. I hate to write a bad review but we traveled over 2 hours to get there and was very disappointed. I’m sure this place was awesome many years ago I just think it needs a little attention. There was a pretty big water leak at the water hookup that once we arrived they told us about, but with standing water and hot days equals to mosquitos.
