Woodpecker point was lovely! Nathan was a great host who was happy to jump in to help with the issues we had. Take the 4x4 warnings seriously, it is a tough hill, but the view is worth it!

View was great. Definitely need 4wd and a higher clearance vehicle. My stock ford ranger with street tires made it out towing a 4,000lb trailer and it rained the day before. He also makes sure that you make it out and has the means to pull you. I wouldn’t worry too much about being stuck if you know how to drive. It seems like he lives on the premise, seems like a very nice guy. No trash anywhere which is nice.

Great view! Definitely need AWD or 4WD. Clean outhouse was a nice plus. Our dogs enjoyed the area and they had room to play.

Interesting spot! I slept in my Subaru but looked like plenty of flat land for tents and whatnot. The views in the winter were pretty great (through the trees). Bathroom was nice and clean. Didn’t interact with the hosts but I was in and out so not their fault. The approach to the campsite is as described…you probably need awd or 4x4 to be confident you’ll get in. It had just rained when I was there and it made it a little tougher. Road noise and train noise was minimal…I kind of liked it. Overall a cool spot and a great experience!

Overall, we had a great experience and the view was beautiful, especially in the winter when you can see through the trees. Our dog loved it! The only thing is it said that you need a four-wheel-drive vehicle so take this very seriously. Especially if there’s any sort of rain at the time. I have an all-wheel-drive Subaru Crosstrek and we almost got stuck going to and leaving the site. It is a very steep drive that is completely dirt with some rocks and potholes that took very skilled driving getting in and out due to rain.

First time camper here: Woodpecker Pointe was really nice! Nathan had left out the firewood for us before hand so when we reached the spot, it was easier to get set up and get the fire going. The path leading up to the campsite is definitely only meant to be traveled by 4x4 or AWD. The road itself isn’t tricky but there’s an incline going up hill and steep downhill paths. But the campsite is just around the corner and really quiet and peaceful! It’s quiet at night and the train noises are there which was nice to hear, but it also depends on how you sleep. It was soothing for us.

It’s a great spot when you get to it. Just make sure you have a decent all wheel drive or 4 wheel drive to get there.

It was a nice site and Nathan was a good host, but not quite the peaceful camp we hoped for. We stayed on a Friday night and the Chattanooga choo choo trains and their horns were plentiful. You’re not far from the interstate and could hear some traffic as well. Not great if you’re a light sleeper.
The host lives on the property and very close by. Good for when I asked for some extra firewood in the morning, but maybe too close for some looking for that remote feeling.
Loved the road to get there and you do need 4 wheel drive!

This was an excellent spot for camping with the family and dogs. It’s secluded but close enough to a gas station and other things that you might need in a pinch. Overall, this place provided a great experience to be outdoors and to get away for a day or two.

Nathan was awesome! The hilltop is nice and cozy, the drive up was definitely requiring of a 4x4. The mountain top wasn’t as quiet as you can hear the train occasionally but honestly, it was such a nice noise to hear. America needs more trains! 😂
Definitely recommend buying the wood stacks he offers. The firewood he cultivates locally and dries and it burns for a WHILE! Helped me not have to pack any!

Absolutely loved tent camping on Nathan’s land! There’s a potable water spigot, pit toilet (arguably the nicest I’ve been in) and a private tent camping area with flat ground for the tent and a very well maintained fire pit. You **NEED** a 4WD car, it’s impossible to get to the site with a 2WD vehicle. Nathan was a very accommodating and nice host, would absolutely stay again!!

Absolutely gorgeous and well done. The site is nearby the host, but it still feels private and was perfect for our rooftop tent setup. Really great fire ring and clean outhouse. I have a 2WD 4Runner I left about halfway in, but the 4WD Raptor had 0 issue, and helped pull me out one of the grades (it had rained recently). Seriously though, 4WD or really great AT tires are needed to get here. You will hear a train, but no traffic and I slept great. Will definitely come back as a local spot for a quick getaway.

First the good: the site is clean, outhouse is clean (a bonus for offgrid site), and view although limited by summer foliage was nice. Be certain your rig and offroad skills are up to the task. This would limit my recommendation to only those that want a challenge in pulling a camper/trailer to a site, willing to devote time to any unexpected difficulty, and equipped to remain offgrid with limited sunlight in dense summer shade (bring a generator).

I loved tent camping on Nathan’s land. He’s cleared a great spot at the top of the mountain, including a dug-in fire pit. Driving a 4x4 is recommended, but it’s a quick hike if you park your car and walk. I bought a bundle of the wood and pitch he sells, which made the fire really easy to start and clean burning. I hope to be back again soon!

Great spot. Very private and felt remote enough. We personally didn’t stay that long, just camped there over night so can’t speak too much to the vibe of just chilling there but I bet it would’ve been nice. Just remember that to get to the spot there is two steep inclines and two declines at about 15 degs each haha. All on gravel/dirt so make sure you’re ready. Not necessarily high clearance needed but probably all-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive recommended with at least some all-terrain tires equipped. Great spot though!

This is a great spot! Nathan's a responsive host and it was a quiet, private and beautiful property to camp on. My partner and I had a long drive and didn't arrive on the property until after dark. I would definitely recommend arriving while you still have light to navigate the drive up to the place where you park. We had read in the reviews that 4WD is a must and I would definitely agree! Worth it though!
