What a beautiful setting! The grounds were pristine, the fireflies greeted us lovingly and the composting toilet was a great bonus!

Lower Meadow site

Very beautiful and peaceful campsite! Sunset is visible, and the compost toilet is very clean. The sign to enter the campsite is very small, so slow down to look for it (it's before the bike shop sign). Loved being around so much greenery and look forward to staying again. Just note that the frogs are audible all night, but that didn't really bother us.

The campsite was beautiful and secluded. We had to drive through a field and down a very short but very steep hill to get to the site. It was dry so we didn’t have any issues. Very close to Ithaca and all the state parks. We would definitely stay here again.

This is the second time we have stayed at Green Heron and chose the Secluded Spruce site both times. Craigs place is really lovey...outside of town (Ithaca) just enough to feel you are in the country but close enough that it is easy to get into town. It is quiet, well groomed and the composting toilet is very clean.

Absolutely beautiful area…of course the weather was perfect, so I’m sure that helped 😂. Overall, the entire place was very well maintained, clean, and had a feeling of privacy while still feeling safe. We stayed in the glamping site (canvas tent on platform with queen size bed), and it was very clean and very comfortable , composting toilet also very clean with a mild scent of pine shavings. Quiet area, very restful at night. Definitely would stay again

Beautiful place to camp! Very private site which is much preferred to state parks where you’re on top of each other. Barebones with only the compost toilet but we knew that going in. Very peaceful for our 2 night stay

Great Birdwatching

Lovely spot, the pond is small and secluded. You can hear the peepers at night and the birds in the morning. Excellent spot for birdwatching, it rained a bit but I was nice and cozy. The compost toilet is a perfect and functional choice and made my stay more comfortable.

Great Spot, Great Host!

The Pines was a wonderful secluded spot to stay over the weekend! It was protected from wind and rain and was far away from any other camping spots. At one point we left our cars lights on for too long and needed jump but Craig was very responsive and showed up within 20 minutes! Super nice guy and would recommend again!

One of the best

Amazing place, lots of room to explore, most of the sites are private and spread far apart with a few closer together that would be fun for a larger group. Dirt roads but I’m in an old rear wheel drive campervan and had no issues after several days of rain. Clean facilities, well kept trails, cool host. Have Verizon and was able to get enough bars to download files from a hotspot, was slow but doable. Would absolutely return.

Lower Meadow site

Really nice large tent site! Wish I could have stayed longer. I booked day of as a last minute plan to stay near Robert H. Treman park and run trails the next day, and Craig was very helpful with instructions for getting to the site, and I was able to find it in the dark.

Beautiful Camping

We had a great time at Craig’s Land. The variety of trails, ponds, and sites to explore filled our night there. The composting toilet was clean with no odor, and just a short walk from the Secluded Spruces site where we stayed. The land was far back from the road, the stars were bright, and an owl sang to us in the evening. 10/10, would stay again.

Upper Meadow site

Beautiful mowed meadow. Peaceful. Private. But if you have a dog in October, there are hundreds of tiny ticks. Luckily our dog is white so I could see them moving. Otherwise it was great.

Loved the secludedness of this place. Campsites very spread out. Plenty of groomed trails to walk and a short drive to many other parks and waterfalls. Compost outhouse did not smell. Plenty of firewood available onsite for a good price (pay with cash or PayPal). FYI no cell signal for T-Mobile customers).

Fantastic place to camp! Host was super nice and responsive! The only thing I would warn other campers of is the sign to the road is just a small yard sign and the road is really rough to drive on. Lower to the ground cars will have a hard time. I will absolutely be going back next year!

Well thought out and manicured sites! I enjoyed my cozy stay under the Pines. The other sites looked pretty much in the open. This site was past a couple of the other sites that are nearer to the toilet so I just used my own camp toilet rather than walking "all that way". I loved that there was a picnic table and nice fire ring. The trails were also nice to explore. Only a 10 minute drive to the beautiful Robert Treman State Park. When I went to bed I did put in ear plugs as you do hear a fast road in the distance where the sound only seems to amplify when it gets dark. I didn't really notice it as much during the day time. I'd definately stay here again but check out a different site, next time; for variety.

Comfortable in the Pines

The Green Heron is an excellent place to camp! We camped In the Pines, which was very comfortable. The kids loved walking the pathways around the campsite. We had enough room for a 6-person tent and a 3-person tent. We had to walk by the Upper Meadow and Lower Meadow campsites to get to the composting toilet, though this was not an issue for us, and we couldn't see other campsites from our campsite. The outhouse was clean and did not smell. There is a steep, though short, hill to drive down to the In the Pines site. I could see how it might be slippery if the ground was wet, but the ground was dry when we drove it and our minivan managed to make it up the hill. Overall the site is very peaceful!

Stellar Glamping, Stellar Host

This is a must visit short-stay glamping adventure in one of the country’s best Hipcamp locales, for a fraction of the cost (as you must walk to a composting toilet and there are no showers) but hey, it’s well worth it. Here you will find a gorgeous location with lots of space and lovely touches like tiki torches, a free stack of firewood, chairs, and a picnic table AND your phone will work! Feels remote but is short drive down the road and the first site on the property with lots of charm and lush greenery. I once stayed in a luxury tent in Africa - and this tent is just as well-made and finely crafted. My son and I had a blast celebrating his 21st bday weekend under the stars with the night breeze and animal sounds. There’s lanterns in the tent, and tables, and an extra blanket but we didn’t need it. Toasty! The bed is a dream. I slept like a baby - but woke to the yips and howls of the coyotes. Make sure you have a rain or white noise setting on your phone as they are up to making quite the racket late into the night or early morning depending upon your perspective. (Also they are not interested in humans so don’t be alarmed!) Last but certainly not least - Craig is an amazing host - highly responsive, kind, and helpful. Just stellar. Would definitely book again!

Great Glamping!

Great location for glamping. Conveniently close to both Ithaca & Taughanock Falls. The site was very well set organized; both interior & exterior were comfortable under the oak trees. Fire pit, tiki torches, picnic table and front porch with chairs were very nice. Bed was comfy. The location on the property was private, but other tent/RV campsites and a pond were a short walk away. The dark sky at night was stellar for stargazing.

Seriously best Hipcamp ever!

I’ve stayed at a handful of Hipcamps. And this place is the best well maintained one I’ve ever been too. The road to get to all the sites was completely compacted packed down! I was in awe how easy it was to find my spot. I get lost and confused, very easily and this was so simple to find my spot. Which was amazing and so secluded. Also the site was perfectly leveled and big! Plus in the perfect location if you’re chasing waterfalls in the area! There was so much greenbelt in between the other sites as well. It wasn’t the best weather when I stayed, but looked like there was quite a few walking trails on the property. Craig was so fast with communication. And very accommodating with my schedule (that got pushed back), which I’m extremely grateful for!
