Authentic camping feel
The camp was very beautiful. It was nice that the bathrooms were available a short walk away. The bathrooms were clean and spacious, so it’s easy to change in them, which was very nice. It was much appreciated that there is a wagon to help haul stuff to the campsite. Though it’s about 800 ft or so, it makes it a lot easier than carrying things by hand or on your back. Also, things were clearly signed and marked. They have bags of wood for the campers to take for a fire as well, and sawed tree stumps to sit on around the fire pit as well as a picnic table. The campsites were also nicely spaced apart.
This is definitely a site for those that like camping with their tents in a more wooded environment since you’re a bit away from the car, bathroom, and lights. It’s not so far that it is inconvenient, but it’s far enough so that you get a bit more of the authentic camping experience. It is definitely dark, so make sure you have a lantern or flashlight.
We enjoyed our stop over and would love to come back to check out the trails more as we stopped to camp in between destinations and did not get to spend enough time to check out the area properly. What we did see was very beautiful. Also, as we were leaving the campground, we saw that they had a class going in the pavilion on the other side of the property with a group of kids, which was nice to see.
This is our new favorite campground. Beautiful property. Responsive and friendly host. Clean shower house. Convenient location. I love being in the tent at night listening to the frogs and birds of the pond.
Wonderful place to unwind & unplug
The McCully Heritage grounds and campsite was amazing. The levee site is a bit close to the larger pond site, but honestly it didnt bother us as at all. Noise didnt seem to bleed over much at all. All of us were incredibly happy with the decision. The surrounding area is beatuiful as well, though you may want to get your groceries and stuff before showing up to camp, as it's remote. We also cpuldnt get a cell phone signal at all, but that was a plus for our group. The shower house was very clean amd full of funny little signs. We'll definitely be back sometime this summer.
Camping couple w/dogs dream site!
Holy cow! What a beautiful campsite. Trails to explore, easy directions to the place, and the bathrooms!! The bathrooms smell clean and fresh, and the shower was HOT when turned that way. They leave cleaning supplies in the restroom, and it’s so nice it’s easy to feel the need to pay it forward and do a quick wipe down after using the facility.
My partner and I, and our dogs, look forward to visiting again and again.
Quaint, clean and relaxing
Staying at MHP is great. The facilities are awesome and access to trails is great. MHP offers a camping experience off the beaten path but with excellent camp sites. I was able to catch a few fish during my stay in their ponds as well as enjoy a scenic look out of the IL River from their south trail loop.
Beautiful property. Well maintained. The campsites are nicely spaced out. We stayed on the levee and could not even see the sight next to us. The bathrooms are clean and large. We will be back.
Beautiful, quiet campsite
The McCully Levee site was perfect for a quiet weekend getaway. My two friends, dog, and I enjoyed the spot and all of its amenities. The walk around the pond is is absolutely beautiful! Free firewood and clean bathrooms (with showers) were so appreciated. There are also a few, adorable, friendly cats running around! I will note that the bathrooms and firewood are pretty far from the Levee site. This was absolutely no problem for us, but you might take it into consideration if camping with people who might not want to hike/drive to the bathroom. With such a low price, great amenities, and beautiful views, McCully Heritage Project can’t be beat!
