Tips for Snagging a Campsite Reservation
- You can reserve campsites and cabins online or over the phone through Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
- Campsites and cabins are released six months in advance and can be reserved up until your day of arrival.
- Book early to avoid disappointment. Early Settlers Campground, in particular, fills up fast.
- All five cabins and a few campsites are available in the winter months.
- If you can’t find a campsite in the park, there are many Hipcamps in the area. You’ll also find plenty of reservable and first-come, first-served campsites available at Grand Mesa Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests nearby.
When to Go
Vega State Park offers a mix of summer and winter activities, making it a good place to visit year-round. That said, summer is still the most popular time to visit, and the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day is usually busy. This is also the only time of the year where hunting is permitted in the park. Camping season runs from mid-May through the end of September, with some sites available in October and from mid-April through mid-May.
Know Before You Go
- You can pick up groceries and supplies in the town of Collbran, a 20-minute drive from Vega.
- The park's visitor center offers educational exhibits, fishing and hunting passes, boat and off-highway-vehicle registration, and souvenirs for sale.
- Accessible features at the park include a fishing pier, showers, restrooms, and eight campsites.
- Dogs are welcome at the park but must remain leashed. Pets are allowed in some cabins for an additional nightly fee.
- Parking is not included in camping fees. All vehicles must have a day or annual parking pass displayed.
- Horse corrals are available for rent and are located behind the Pioneer cabins.
