Very nice spot right on the river! Had a campfire, fed alpacas carrots and hung out with dogs. Cool property all around, would definitely recommend!

This place is awesome. One of the coolest places we've stayed at kiddos had a blast. Animals, beach, lake, paddle boarding, fishing. It's got it all. The host was cool 🤙🏼👍🏼👍🏼

If you're an animal lover, this is a fantastic site. All kinds of animals are running around and you're free to interact. The site itself is right on the river and really private, with great views. The only drawback was that their dogs are patrolling at night, and there was nonstop barking.

What a beautiful place! We have an 18' trailer that had plenty of room. The sites sit right on a mellow stretch of the river. We waded in the water for hours. There is also a stocked fishing pond. My sons caught 10 fish in about 2 hours. So fun for them. The icing on the cake was all the animals that wandered the property. Just know you will likely be camping with others nearby, but the separation is adequate. The only downsides: our entire campsite was literally crawling with ants. They were everywhere. There is ZERO shade. We were cooking in early July. Thankfully we had a pop up canopy to help.

We recently spent a few days camping at the Colorado River Animal Sanctuary, and it was an incredible experience. The facilities were clean and well-maintained, and the natural surroundings provided the perfect backdrop for a peaceful getaway. One of the highlights of our trip was the variety of friendly animals at the sanctuary. My son became so attached to the pets that he was almost in tears when it was time to leave. The staff were exceptionally welcoming and knowledgeable, making our stay even more enjoyable. If you're looking for a family-friendly camping spot with the added joy of interacting with animals, I highly recommend the Colorado River Animal Sanctuary. We can't wait to return!

Lovely little sanctuary right on the river. We had such a pleasant stay with food options and grocery stores nearby. Great communication and response from the hosts, and our kiddo particularly enjoyed feeding the pet animals.

While the location had charm, our experience was lackluster. We were not given any instructions for checking in. When we got to the campsite, the chairs were strewn about and the kitchen area had the remnants of the guests before us. Ants were everywhere. The campsite itself was a bit rocky, but we were able to get comfortable with backpacking pads. We were not given the location of the bathroom until the morning after the next day - well after we decided to move onwards in our journey! The host was nice when we saw him the next day and the animals were beautiful!

Overall, we had a nice experience. I will say that the pictures seemed a little misleading regarding the sanctuary aspect of it as its a much drier and rocky campsite than we thought it would be with a lot of building debris throughout. It was a great place right above the river and the other property next to the campground is lush and green. We were able to sleep in our tent with really thick sleeping pads, but keep in mind that all of the space is Rocky and so best suited for campers. Our kids enjoyed feeding the animals, however, they were not roaming the property as expected. Incredibly close proximity to town to do fun palisade things like the brewery, bike, riding on the country roads and visiting the farmers market on Sunday.

Very peaceful location with direct access to the river. Being able to go directly up to the animals was a nice addition. The house is tucked away along a long extended driveway so keep that in mind when locating it.

Camping on the Colorado River

Both of the camping sites at this property are stellar, but the upper site has better views and breezes. The animals that live on the property as part of the animal sanctuary are very friendly: pigs, llamas, miniature horses, peacocks, dogs, and even an emu, and they love treats, fruits, and veggies. At night when the trains go by in Grand Junction and their horns blare, the coyotes across the river yipped and howled. We saw a bald eagle cruise the river one afternoon; overall a very unique experience.

Pat has a wonderful location on the Colorado River! It was beautiful and peaceful waking up along the riverbank. There were water and power hookups for 2 spots, and he had an airstream/trailer to rent as well. There was also a contained firepit and outdoor sink and countertop for cooking space. We loved being around all the animals! The dogs were free-roaming and very friendly. If you're in the area I would highly recommend.

Beautiful river front property.

Beautiful spot, right on the river that we were able to back in to. Pretty easy check in process and great over all property. Spot 1 was right in the river, and spot two sits right above spot 1 on a hill. Lots of cool animals on the property to check out. Beware, the Emu may stalk you. Wifi doesn’t really work at site 1 so plan accordingly. Lots of ants as well. We’ve already booked again for next year so definitely worth checking out. 4.5 miles from town. Definitely could Ebike it. We took Ubers without a problem.

Beautiful site on the water.

Beautiful location right on the water. If you get site 2 be prepared for a tricky time backing your trailer in. It is a longer narrow drive down that curves as it goes with a hill on one side and the colorado river on the other when you get close to the site. It is worth it though. Park down there and open your windows and you can listen to the river flow by all night.

Beautiful tent camping site right on the river with a fire pit. The stars are gorgeous at night and it is awesome to wake up to the sounds of the water. The site has a nice set up with cabinets, a sink, hose, and electrical outlets. There is also a small metal covering that can be tarped and used as a bathroom. For tent campers, I recommend bringing a pop up screen for food preparation. There are dogs and animals that roam freely, and this will help keep them away while you are cooking. This is an amazing place and the animals and views are awesome!
