Sacred healing mineral spring "Deadshot" named by the native peoples for its ability to cure all ailments with 'one shot'. Nipisum or 'health water' was later bottled by the California Medicinal Springs Co. after the land was homesteaded in 1886. This historic retreat rests at the foot of lower Chanchelulla 'black rock' Mountain. Bordering a Wilderness Area this land is pristine and wild inhabited by many animals and incredible bio-diversity such as Pileated Woodpeckers, Golden Eagle, Bald Eagle, Blackhawk, Goshawk, Great Horned Owl, Flying Squirrel, Pacific King Snake, Salamanders and Protected Spawning Rainbow Trout. 100+ acres with private hiking trails along the stream for easy trekking, and summit trails (climbing up to almost 6,000 ft.) to the peak. Our aim is to restore the land from the last 100 years of habitation using innovation to renovate the campground and baths for the next 100 years. Most of our spaces are approximately 16-24 wide and some are even wider, accommodating everyone's needs. Our sites feature 30 amp and 50 amp hookup service with full hookup to water with each space providing a sewer drain. As a convenience to our guests, propane is sold on site. The park backs up to a creek where swimming and fishing are popular. Fishing requires a state license which can be purchased online. Outdoor BBQ is allowed but, currently, no charcoal or wood burning is permitted due to the recent fires. Propane tank or electric BBQs are acceptable. Please note that trains do run near our park and throughout the City of Lakehead. The only gold in these hills are the golden hues of fall foliage at Whiskeytown Lakes. Other colors are crystal-blue waters, white, cloud-covered mountain peaks, and deep green trees. You might see reds from the sunburn you get from spending too much time here. One look at Whiskeytown and you may not want to go home.

In addition to the lake, there are 39,000 acres of pristine wilderness to explore. More than 70 miles of trails offer day hikes, mountain biking, and backpacking excursions. Reach the top of Shasta Bally Mountain for a beautiful view of the Sacramento Valley below. Numerous waterfalls make these hills sing.

BYOH and BYOB, bring your own horse or boat if you prefer faster modes of transportation. Outfitters in the area have rental options for convenience. You can sail, paddle, and motor on the lake. Sunbathe on the deck of a pontoon boat or cast your line into the water for some great fishing.

If you're into history, the visitor's center points to the first European settlements in northern California during the Gold Rush in the mid-1800s. Fortunes were won and lost overnight by rumors of gold to be had.

Whiskeytown is part of a grouping of seven great national parks in northern California and southern Oregon. Reserve great campsites in this area, whether you prefer a hillside overlook or stream-side haven. Bring along your equipment to pan for gold. Flakes still pop up from time to time.
