Bad River Wilderness

On the upper Bad River, I have a special location that I'd like to share for others to enjoy. I was fortunate to acquire this land 20 years ago and now that I have retired from the United States Air Force, I can dedicate time to create peaceful campsites along the river. This land was originally railroad property as the railroad companies bought much land in the late 1800's to have options to place their railroads. There is still a railroad track nearby but it has been unused since 2015 and it makes a nice hiking path along the river for many miles to the north into the national forest. There are 3 waterfalls nearby and I will have many signs leading to the waterfalls. There are 4 total campsites on the property, 1 site you can drive to (Eagle Pines), and 3 tent sites that require 1/8 mile hike to 2 sites, and a 1/4 mile hike to the other hike-in site. There is no leash required for good pups. If your pup is aggressive with other dogs or people please leash them when on the hiking trails. If your pups would stay in your campsite no leash is required. Other campers may be hiking past your campsite on the trails that is still over 100 feet away from others campsites. You may run into others on the trails where others dogs may not be leashed. If your dog is aggressive to other dogs even if yours is on leash if you can’t control them please muzzle them. This property is for sale if you may be interested. Please ask and I’ll send you the details.

River's Edge is a four season adventure company in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, outfitting adventurers with equipment and guidance. The property is located on the Manitowish River, Heart of Vilas County bike trail, and Iron County snowmobile trails. By car we're about eight minutes from WinMan Trails, ten minutes from MECCA Trails and Mercer, three minutes from Manitowish Waters. As we're right on the bike path, riding to lunch or dinner is easy, with lots of yummy options close by. We have two campsites on our property, primarily for adventurers looking for a central basecamp location from which to go do all the fun things we have available in the Northwoods. Campsites are located on the west end of the property, in proximity to all the activities, and include full hookups, a picnic table and fire ring. Site One is closest to the river and bike path. It's more secluded and separate from the main lodge area. Of the two sites, this is the best if you plan to hang around camp and chill. It does have trees lining the parking space, so if you have a trailer above 11'-13' be careful backing in. Site Two is right off of the main parking area next to the lodge building. While we're working on natural barrier growth, it is kind of in the middle of activity during our busy seasons. It is, however, the easiest to back into with a large trailer. If you're looking for a convenient place to bring your RV or trailer and don't mind being less secluded, this is for you. If you're looking for a national forest experience, this is not for you. The main lodge is open for use until 10pm-ish. There are couches, tables and board games available for guests. A bathroom is available for campers in the lodge, however there is no shower. We highly recommend The Manitowish Waters Athletic Club for shower facilities, hot tub, and pool. Day passes are reasonably priced and the facility is extremely well appointed. It's about three minutes by car or ten by bike. Campers get a discount on rental equipment. Wifi is available in the lodge. Our sites are open year-round, although water service will be turned off when temps are below freezing.

Located just down from Bayview Beach, our property sits nestled between Lake Superior and the Onion River, which runs through the property just behind the cabin. You will have a private beach on Lake Superior all to yourself. While neighbors may be around from time to time, especially on weekends, you will not have to share anything but the sound of waves hitting the shore and birds chirping as the sun sets in the west. You can set up a tent by the cabin or on the beach side in the grass or sand areas—or even on the beach itself if you'd like to catch a sunrise. There is also room for an RV, teardrop trailer, or camper van, if that's what you'd like to bring. A fire ring and firewood are provided, along with some chairs. Kayaks are available after booking for a fee, but you are responsible for safe operation and for understanding when weather conditions are not suitable for their use. At this time, the cabin is not included or open for use, nor is there power available for outside hookups. There is no running water (besides the river and Lake Superior), and no toilets on site. However, you will pass public toilets on your way in—they are roughly 90 seconds away by car. Otherwise, you are responsible for bringing a camp toilet. Pets are welcome but must be leashed when others are around and well-behaved. Please dispose of waste properly and respect the natural surroundings. We've had this property since my siblings and I were kids, so please be respectful of the property and neighbors and treat others as you would like to be treated in return. You should not be bothered by anyone. Please practice pack-in/pack-out and clean up after yourselves. Beyond that, nearby attractions include the city of Bayfield and the Apostle Islands, a short 15-minute drive away. Bayfield, Wisconsin, is a breathtaking destination that serves as the gateway to the Apostle Islands. Whether you are seeking adventure on the water, a peaceful retreat in nature, or a taste of local charm, this lakeside gem has something for everyone. Here is an overview of the area and some top attractions to add to your itinerary: Must-Visit Attractions & Activities: • Apostle Islands National Lakeshore: You cannot miss this stunning archipelago. Explore the 21 islands and mainland sea caves by kayak, water taxi, or scenic cruise. It is arguably the most iconic experience in the region. • Madeline Island: Just a short scenic ferry ride from Bayfield, this is the largest of the Apostle Islands. Visit Big Bay State Park for hiking trails and sandy beaches, or explore the shops and eateries in the village of La Pointe. • Orchards & Berry Farms: Bayfield is often called the "Berry Capital of Wisconsin." Depending on the season, you can spend an afternoon picking strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, or apples at one of the many family-owned farms overlooking Lake Superior. • Hiking & Waterfalls: The region is a hiker’s paradise. Check out the Meyers Beach Sea Caves Trail for cliffside views, or explore hidden gems like Lost Creek Falls near Cornucopia. • Big Top Chautauqua: For a unique cultural experience, catch a concert or performance under the "Big Blue Tent." It’s a venue that blends live music with the natural beauty of the Northwoods. • Mt. Ashwabay Ski & Recreation Area: In winter, enjoy downhill skiing, snowboarding, and fat biking on groomed trails. In warmer months, it offers scenic hiking and views. • Local Flavors & Artisans: After a day of exploring, head into downtown Bayfield for fresh-caught whitefish, locally crafted cider or spirits, and charming independent bookstores and art galleries. Thank you, and we look forward to hosting you!

Private camping areas near the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, Great Divide District We cleared part of our private forest area in 2026 and added designated camping sites. The grounds are still a bit rough as the vegetation has not fully grown back yet, but the parking areas are solid. We also have horse pens available if you are traveling with horses and need a place to rest overnight. We are currently a primitive campground. There are no hookups, no electricity, no water, and no toilets available. You will need to be fully self-contained during your stay. Cell service is limited (we use AT&T, so other providers may work better), but it is not completely unavailable. Cell boosters should work well here. The gravel road leading to our property is in good condition in most areas; however, it is still a gravel road and, in some sections, a forest road with some bumpy areas. The surrounding roads are also used as ATV and snowmobile trails. We do not allow ATVs, UTVs, or snowmobiles on our private trails. For those activities, you will need to access the trails within the National Forest. We are located near the Dead Horse Run Trail. Some of our private trails are open for campers to hike and explore. Two of our camper sites are 60 feet long, and one is 45 feet long. These three sites are back-in only. We also have one pull-off site that is 35 feet long. Tent campers are welcome to use any of the available spaces as well. Due to our driveway layout and the curve required to access the campground, we do not accept Class A motorhomes or large rigs. Our roads and parking areas are a sand-and-rock mix and are not as hardened as they will be after the next winter season. However, we believe they work well for smaller rigs. Our camper is shown in some of the photos (not parked in a designated site), and we had no issues getting it in place. When deciding if a site will fit your setup, please consider the total length of your entire rig, including both your camper and tow vehicle. You cannot park on the circle driveway. Thank you!

Welcome to Happy Creek Hollow, your cozy private hideaway in the Northwoods! We’re excited to share our 30-acre slice of paradise—perfect for creating unforgettable memories with family and friends. A small bunk cabin now sits on the property, but the site remains fully open for tent camping or travel trailers. Tucked away yet easy to access, this one-of-a-kind retreat offers total seclusion with no neighbors in sight. You’ll have the entire 30 acres to yourself, surrounded by wild, untouched woods. There’s plenty of room to spread out with tents or park your camper/travel trailer. Spend your days relaxing around the campfire, exploring the beautiful Penokee Mountain area, and soaking in the peace of the Northwoods. Adventure on the property: A private trail leads about a half-mile (roughly 30-minute round-trip hike) to Happy Creek Flowage, a peaceful 10-acre lake. The trail is hilly and rugged—true Northwoods terrain—but well worth it. A paddle boat is waiting for calm floats on the water. ATVs and side-by-sides can also use the trail for quicker access. We’re working on installing a dock, but until then, plan to wear high boots or get your feet wet reaching the boat. The lake has no public access, so it’s all yours! Local DNR folks say there may be trout in the lake—we’re looking forward to confirming that this summer. Nearby attractions: Little Town Coffee Truck - 4 mi: ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC COFFEE, located at the Mellen Police Department Parking Lot. Copper Falls State Park - 6.5 mi: stunning waterfalls. Drop Tine Restaurant in Cayuga - 3.5 mi: serves up an excellent fish fry and burgers. Meder Lake - 1.2 mi Long Lake - 2.6 mi Lake Galilee - 4.3 mi English Lake - 10 mi Many other lakes within a 20 minute drive. Ironwood, Michigan - 40 min drive. Please note: Cell service is spotty (especially for AT&T), so plan accordingly. The bunk cabin will be unoccupied during your stay, giving you full privacy on the property. If you’d like to rent the bunk cabin in addition to the campsite, just reach out—I’d be happy to arrange it. Please note that the cabin has no electricity or running water and features an unfinished interior.

Escape to the wilderness! This private three-acre wooded site is perfect for anyone seeking a secluded camping experience. With 300 feet of frontage on the East Fork of the Chippewa River, easy access to countless lakes and rivers, and thousands of acres of the Chequamegon National Forest at your doorstep, this property won’t disappoint any outdoor enthusiast. Note: When you rent our property you get the whole thing. We are not a campground. This is a private 3-acre parcel on the Chippewa River. You will not be sharing the site or facilities with anyone else. There’s plenty of space to set up your camper or tent on the gravel pad, or you can meander down the cleared path to the river’s edge, where you’ll find your own private park complete with a fire ring, picnic table, two tent platforms (10'x12' each) and breathtaking views of the flowing river. Note: the river camping area is approximately 150 yards down a walking path. The flat and level gravel RV/parking pad offers both 30- and 50-amp service and accommodates campers up to approximately 20 feet in length, with pull-in access (not a pull-through site). Water is available from our new well on the property. The gravel pad is about 60 feet in diameter. A full-size truck (F150) with a 20' trailer should be able to pull in and fully turn around into position on the pad. There are multiple fishing and recreation lakes within a 30 minute drive, hundreds of miles of nearby ATV/UTV trails to explore, and many mountain bike trailheads are only about 30 miles from this location as well.
