As of April 2026, we experienced massive flooding at our campsite due to rain and snowmelt. We also sustained large tree loss on the property due to an ice storm. Due to this, the area beyond the main campsite is UNAVAILABLE until further notice. That includes the walking trail and swimming area. Main campsite area including fire pit and fishing hole are open. Swimming at the main site is available, but highly recommend water shoes or Crocs due to rocks.

This unique riverside retreat is located on the shores of the Plover River, on a dam remnant behind a former working mill. Enjoy a stay at our rustic log cabins nestled 1/2 mile back from our residence in the peaceful woods of our family's 160-acre 5th generation farm. Summertime here is filled with long days of daylight to participate in various activities, or just hang out in the hammock. The warm evenings bring out fire flies, owls hooting, and stargazing while sitting around the campfire. The fall is a very special time of year here with the maples and oaks changing colors. There are two log cabins, one of which doubles as a place to cook maple syrup in the spring, a pavilion, and an odor-free "outhouse". We will only rent to one group at a time, you'll just have to choose which cabin site(s) you want. The group limit is 9 people.
Hike the trails meandering through our woods, sit around the large campfire, take a relaxing nap in the hammock, watch sunset down one of the trails, or the many activities of hiking and mountain/fat tire biking groomed trails at nearby Levis/Trow Mound (our favorite), fishing, kayaking, horse trail rides, and The Highground Veterans Memorial Park (a must-see) is a mile up the road. The pavilion has a large log picnic table, Blackstone griddle, a charcoal grill, and refrigerator/freezer. The pavilion and Sugar Shack cabin have solar power. The Sugar Shack has a small gas stove and oven. The Cozy Cabin does not have solar power yet. All rentals include use of the pavilion and "outhouse". New in 2026 - outdoor shower with heated water.
There is no WiFi but good cell phone service. Bedding is furnished for cabin stays. Wood and charcoal are furnished. Extra lawn chairs available. We have cornhole available and other yard games for use. All you really need to bring is food, beverages, towels & favorite book or game.
We welcome your furry friends, but no more than 2 dogs. There is a $25 pet cleaning fee under extras. This $25 fee covers 2 dogs. We politely request no children under 7 in cabins, and then all children over 7 supervised at all times while in cabins.
2 night minimum; 3 night minimum on holiday weekends such as Memorial Day and Labor Day weekend, and 4th of July if it lands on a Friday or Monday.

We had an amazing time here. It is a beautiful property, very peaceful. You can see the stars at night and hear the water from the river. We stayed in site number one, which seemed to be best for car camping/small trailers. There are a number of amazing sites on the property for tent camping, just might be hard to access with a larger vehicle. But there is a parking area.
Michael is an amazing host, very welcoming, has good energy and is very generous, all around a great guy. We used tubes and kayaks in the river and had a blast. The property is well taken care of and there are a number of awesome seating areas along the river. There are trails that wind through the woods on the property. We will definitely be back in the future.

Peaceful and easy to find. Very quiet! I was worried about roosters potential volume in the morning, but the chickens are about a football field away behind a building. You don't hear them with doors closed (if you have one!)
The site is easily located to the left after you enter the driveway. It is not labeled, but is a spacious clearing. We did have cell service at our site, but not by the porta-potty.
The owner seems friendly and easygoing. We checked in with him upon arrival.
There are other workers who stay on the property, it is a distance from the site. They keep to themselves. We approached one, and he was super friendly and gave us a small tour!
There is a small self-serve store in the building by the porta-potty. BRING CASH! I believe they may have Venmo as well.
We bought eggs and they have mushrooms for purchase as well!
Very quiet, relaxing, and cool spot! VERY cost friendly. No complaints what so ever!!

Can i give a 20 star review?! Michael was a generous, kind, and informative host. The grounds were immaculate, well curated, and perfectly secluded.
We were the first to stay at site #3, which is technically a double site, with one part right on the river, the other a bit back with plenty of shade. The river was cool, refreshing, and perfect for families, with there being shallow areas but also deep for those who want to swim. A fire pit available on each site, with PLENTY of wood for a small fee. As well as large tables and even chairs, if you need them!
You're surrounded by nothing but nature/wildlife, which provided a wonderful soundtrack, day or night. At night it is pitch black, so star gazing is excellent. (Definitely bring flashlights or head lamps.)
Anything you can think of, Michael has also, and is ready to help you find it. We will DEFINITELY be back.

This was our second time staying at Riverside Roost and I can’t write enough good things about it. The hosts are amazing, the communication is exceptional, and the little extras made us feel so welcome. Despite some rain, we fished, swam, kayaked, built a fire and more. It’s a great location with plenty of space for 8 of us and multiple tents/pop-ups. We’ll be back again next summer. Only advice is to bring good bug spray! The flies and mosquitos are plentiful.

The photos on Hipcamp do not convey the beauty and expansiveness of this location. There are so many tuckaways and places to explore and find peace in a fern-gemmed forest, and the river wraps around the property like a hug.
Michael, the host, was eager and helpful. He had tubes and kayaks available for the river, and I want to return for the tubing!

It was the perfect getaway for me and my kids, we love that we have the whole site to ourselves with everything that we need and it's peaceful and quiet. Everything there is really maintained except the trails, it was nice around the site but we want to go all the way around and the weeds on the trail was too tall so we had to turned around otherwise everything else was great! We had a great time there, loved the fire pit at night and the Pavillion was excellent for everyone to hangout and eat. Thanks Judy and Kevin for sharing your property and family history with us, we appreciated your hospitality and thank you for hosting us.

You literally camp right on the Plover River, maybe, just maybe with another site farther down river and out of site. I had the place to myself the nights I stayed and fell asleep to the gentle sound of the river rolling over rocks by the historic mill. Firewood onsite, kayaks to use, bicycles, porta potties, disc golf baskets benches everywhere to ponder ones thoughts. Perfect for tent camping and car/van camping. Simply incredible! Thank you Michael, such an amazing human and host. I'll be back!

A beautiful farm property with a park like setting with flowing creek and easy access to river for shore fishing or swimming to cool off on hot days. Quiet, peaceful atmosphere. We enjoyed seeing the beef cattle and a walk exploring the the woods, where we saw a second creek and many different species of mushrooms. We enjoyed watching the farmer baling his hay and loading it onto the Semi with the giant hook lift. The night sky's were beautiful and filled with a multitude of stars. The nights were oh so quiet as we fell asleep to the babbling creek. Jeff and Karen were most gracious hosts. They were readily available when needed and quietly inconspicuous when not needed.
We camped right next to the creek in a grassy area in a tent. There was a fire pit and firewood available. My 4 year old grandson and I had a great time. He felt so free to roam and explore in complete safety. Can’t wait to visit again for an absolutely stress free break in a safe and quiet environment.

Weekend Trip to Rustic Log Cabin Retreat
Wow we had an excellent time! Everything we needed and more! Cabins were beautiful, solar power was great. We used the blackstone for steaks and eggs, we used the pizza oven and made fresh pizza! The hosts were responsive and brought more water when the drinking water ran dry. They even prepared us a little baked treat which we enjoyed very much for breakfasts. You can tell this property is a labor of love. Overall 15/10 experience and would love to return another time, only for longer! If you are on the fence, JUST BOOK IT!!

Michael is an absolutely wonderful host. He was more than happy to help with everything from the moment we got there. It was an excellent spot with easy access into the river. The solar lights were also perfect. There were multiple places to sit (picnic tables & benches) and the area was so clean. I have never given a Port-a-potty a 10/10 before, but I will here! Everything was so easy to set up and Michael made sure we were always comfortable. Make sure to ask him for pizza recommendations!
