You’re also welcome to camp almost anywhere on the property to find your perfect spot.
A lightly traveled public dirt road runs through our property. While an SUV or 4x4 is recommended, regular cars can access the site, and we have parking for standard vehicles. Please check with us in advance if you plan to bring an RV. Our farm is a great destination for overland camping—perfect for getting your truck a little dirty!
We are cautiously dog-friendly. Our farm dogs patrol the property to protect our free-roaming animals, so visiting dogs must be well-behaved, leashed, and comfortable around other animals. If you're unsure about compatibility, please reach out for advice. Our dogs will come to your camp to "check you out". If your dog has a problem with other dogs that are new to them you must let us know so we can control our dogs. We have had people come with problem dogs and not tell us so, we are asking for a $1 extra that we now require as a pet fee.

The Werry's Secret Resort is set in the woods on the Hocking River. The peaceful surroundings are found on a secluded township road half mile from the main highway. Reservations at the Werry's Secret Resort include the entire camping area and are not shared with other guests. If you plan to RV camp, van camp, pull behind, etc., the picnic shelter house location will work best for you. If you plan to tent camp, the riverside is also an option for you. Larger parties can rent both the camper or cabins & bring some tents additional people. Or bring a friend and rent one site in conjunction with some of our other sites. you can even split up your camping trip with a night in our backcountry camp site. Located in the rolling Appalachian hills of Southeast Ohio. This farm has been in our family since 1869 when our relatives settled here from Germany. Originally farmed for cattle and sheep with many orchards over the years our property is now mostly mature forest. Southeast Ohio, including our property is known for its hilly topography and microclimates. Hills range from 400 to 1,100 feet.
Nearly 500 acres of land with an additional 200+ acres of Wayne National Forest adjacent to our farm and close proximity to other Wayne areas for outdoor activities. We have nearly 10 miles of available trails for hiking. Many activities can be done at or centered around our property. Such as excellent and challenging road biking, mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, kayaking and boating. We are two miles from the Little Muskingum River. A great river for kayak trips. The Wayne Kinderhook horse and hiking trail is roughly 5 miles from our location. Hike the Irish Run Natural Land bridge trail also a short drive to the trailhead from our property. Ride your motorcycle up Rt. 26 a great Ohio byway for scenic driving. This is also a great home base for dual sport or adventure bike motorcycle riders to camp while adventuring along gravel roads through Appalachia. If motorcycles aren't your method of entertainment and travel. Bring your horse and ride on several of our trails.
From steep ascents to long flat ridge lines, you will have lots of time to immerse yourself with nature while hiking. We're next to a section of the Wayne National Forest and a short drive to other similar Wayne activity sites. If you like to camp, but don't want the busy public park experience then you will enjoy the privacy of our camping location.
We are also only about a 20-minute drive to downtown Marietta. Where you can find restaurants, bars, and many other fun activities.

Our farm lies nestled in between two beautiful mountains, one of them named Panther Mountain, in the Gauley River gorge. Here we raise Merino and Jacob sheep. Our farm is also home to a miniature horse and chickens.
In addition to the NRG and Summersville Lake and Dam, also close by are Carnifex Ferry Battleground State Park where you can see where a crucial civil war battle took place, as well as Babcock State Park with its iconic grist mill and waterfall.
We provide 7 sites on our farm for every camping style, from dry RV to tent, each with a table, fire pit and grill. All sites are spaciously separate from one another for privacy and perfect for couples who want to get away from it all, or for families or groups of friends who want to reconnect and catch up.
Clean portajohns are provided as well as a common area with a dishwashing station and a "to die for" outdoor hot water shower (above-freezing temperatures permitting)!

Property was owned by my great grandfather , He lost 150 acres in the early 1900's due to a bad debt from neighboring landowner. Was so happy to be able to repurchase the 150 acres back in 2016,now own the original land tract and added more. 250 acres in total. Portions were strip mined around 1978-1982 creating some flat fields and access to all property. I might add that strip mining if done properly can and does enhance the property. Ponds were built to catch runoff and several new animal species moved in waterfowl ,muskrats, and beavers. The beavers have constructed large dams on property further adding to the beauty. Have seen several bald eagles on and around the property.

Camp Lucky Otter now offers a camper! It includes a short queen bed, dining nook, coffee bar, a mini fridge,+ camp essentials + space to store your things. We are just minutes from Battle Run Boat Launch, Gauley River put-in, and Summersville Dam. Check out Ample Pizza and Freefolk Brewery -- just a quick 12 minute drive -- and halfway to the National Park! Weekend Trip to Appalachian Retreat Camp
J was very attentive and thorough with my needs and communication. The camper was so cute and had a great rustic and modern style on the inside. The shower and the outhouse was the most impressive. Upscale and clean for a camper vibe. There is access to trails you can spend hours walking in just behind the camper. Its also 20 min from town so a doable drive just in case you need to pick up anything you forgot.

Nik and Beth were absolutely amazing hosts!
We are novice campers and 2 lgbtq+ women so we were a bit nervous about our trip to West Virginia. But Nik and Beth made us feel so welcomed and safe!
We really enjoyed getting to chat with them by the fire our first night there. They are just lovely people. My wife especially loved their sweet dogs.
Nik went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and cared for. He even spent time letting us see their piglets and telling us about their animals! I honestly don’t think you could find better hosts.
The property is beautiful and nicely tucked away from everything. A really nice escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The drive in was fine in our truck. I thought it was a little bit of an adventure in itself. We saw several deer on our way in and out. I would be cautious driving it at night if it’s your first time just because it does have some tight turns.
The WiFi was a plus! I had no issues with getting a signal (AT&T) but my wife did (Mint) so that was nice for her to have. Though we tried to stay off our phones as much as possible because you just want to soak up being away from it all!
We definitely want to come back and hopefully stay longer! They truly helped make our trip enjoyable, easy, and memorable! Thank you!!!

This was a great camp spot for my partner and our dogs. Lovely camper with a lot of amenities. Bathroom was very nice and kept clean. Lots of great trails nearby to hike. Great to chill by the fire and since it was cold out, it was very nice to have heating in the camper. Overall great time; will be back if ever in the area again!

Lizzie’s Retreat was a fantastic camp spot. Communication with J was top notch. Directions were clear and the spot was easy to find. You can tell this was a very well thought out hipcamp. Everything you could ever need was there. Grounds were well kept and facilities were clean. We enjoyed the peaceful location and hundreds of birds and butterflies. I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking for a peaceful stay.

We really enjoyed the quiet and seclusion. It was exactly what we needed to have a moment away from the hustle and bustle of life. We also appreciated the quick drive to town when our air mattress sprung a leak on the first night ;).
The scenery was beautiful. When we took a hike we saw deer and signs of a multitude of other animals.
The composting toilet was a bonus.

The site was awesome, plenty of room to move around and park. Bathroom was very convenient, along with the outlet. Pretty secluded with a great view of the sky, although the access road is visible from the site. Overall a great site, will definitely be back.
J was very nice too and checked in at the beginning of our stay.
