Or bring a friend and rent one site in conjunction with some of our other sites. you can even split up your camping trip with a night in our backcountry camp site. Located in the rolling Appalachian hills of Southeast Ohio. This farm has been in our family since 1869 when our relatives settled here from Germany. Originally farmed for cattle and sheep with many orchards over the years our property is now mostly mature forest. Southeast Ohio, including our property is known for its hilly topography and microclimates. Hills range from 400 to 1,100 feet.
Nearly 500 acres of land with an additional 200+ acres of Wayne National Forest adjacent to our farm and close proximity to other Wayne areas for outdoor activities. We have nearly 10 miles of available trails for hiking. Many activities can be done at or centered around our property. Such as excellent and challenging road biking, mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, kayaking and boating. We are two miles from the Little Muskingum River. A great river for kayak trips. The Wayne Kinderhook horse and hiking trail is roughly 5 miles from our location. Hike the Irish Run Natural Land bridge trail also a short drive to the trailhead from our property. Ride your motorcycle up Rt. 26 a great Ohio byway for scenic driving. This is also a great home base for dual sport or adventure bike motorcycle riders to camp while adventuring along gravel roads through Appalachia. If motorcycles aren't your method of entertainment and travel. Bring your horse and ride on several of our trails.
From steep ascents to long flat ridge lines, you will have lots of time to immerse yourself with nature while hiking. We're next to a section of the Wayne National Forest and a short drive to other similar Wayne activity sites. If you like to camp, but don't want the busy public park experience then you will enjoy the privacy of our camping location.
We are also only about a 20-minute drive to downtown Marietta. Where you can find restaurants, bars, and many other fun activities.

Camp Lucky Otter now offers a camper! It includes a short queen bed, dining nook, coffee bar, a mini fridge,+ camp essentials + space to store your things. Camp offers: a camp stove, porta potty, outdoor sink, firewood, outdoor cook area, and deck. Camp does NOT offer: an indoor kitchen or shower (yet!) Lucky Otter is half an acre of forest with beautiful, subtle views of Summersville Lake. This camp is next door to a cabin with friendly / respectful tenants. It is a shared driveway but campers park in a low spot at the bottom of the driveway -- not up by cabin. There is a tall fence to separate camp from the cabin but it is close by. Please note that the camper itself only sleeps two -- if you book for four -- 2 folks will need to tent camp.
There is so much to enjoy at Lucky Otter: the lake breeze, shady forest canopy, birdsong, room for activities, camp meals, and time around the campfire. Bird sounds prevail over boat noise -- which only occurs during busy season and during the day. At night, you will drift asleep to peaceful nature noises. Lucky Otter is a haven for campers, climbers, and lake folk alike. Rest at camp or venture off to the crags (very close to the Meadow and the Lake) or nearby hiking trails. We are just minutes from Battle Run Boat Launch, Gauley River put-in, and Summersville Dam. Drive just a mere 5 minutes and explore or picnic at Carnifex Ferry State Park -- they have the best panoramic river view! Check out Ample Pizza and Freefolk Brewery -- just a quick 12 minute drive -- and halfway to the National Park! We are a quick trip to the New River Gorge National Park (about 15 miles) and just a twenty minute drive from downtown Fayetteville. Explore Fayette Station where you can find a river front beach, waterfalls, and hiking trails. We offer the perfect spot to relax with your friends or family. Pups are totally welcome -- they must be leashed. Please note that the steep sloping hill past the two adirondack chairs at the bottom of camp that goes down to the lake is NOT our property but the Army Corps. Things to Note

We do our best to keep poison ivy cleared from most areas and are continuously working on copperhead control as we encounter them. Please plan accordingly—bring bug spray, keep food secured from animals, and dress appropriately when walking in wooded areas to avoid poison ivy and snakes.

This little a-frame was wonderful!! I was on my way home from NYC so I needed a quiet woodsy recovery space and this was perfect. Nestled in the hilly woods but not too far to walk to, and a screened window to open to hear all the woods sounds. I fell asleep to the sound of rain too early to hear the owl, but apparently there was one! I also love the history of this place - the a-frame was built in the same spot as an old cabin that eventually fell apart. J's grandfather was born in that cabin way back when.

This is a perfect location for doing anything in the area. It is tucked away into a little neighborhood but affords plenty of privacy. The site is so perfectly and thoughtfully put together. You can tell that the placement of everything both inside and outside of the camper was deliberate. Arriving on the first day was full of pleasant surprises that I won't spoil here. The site is well-stocked with almost anything you could possibly need. As a result, we really didn't require much from the hostess, Elle, but she made it very clear she was prepared to address any issues that might arise. It is such a charming little site and if we are ever back in in the area, we would not hesitate to stay at the Lucky Otter again.

Weekend Trip to Whippoorwill Retreat
Really close to ohio river and Forked Run State Park where we kyacked. Amazing property. A little hike in up and down through the woods. Greeted with the cutest little cabin stocked with anything you could possibly need and more. Perfectly situated in a small clearing with the fire pit and picknick table just far enough away from the cabin. The cabin is facing a rock formation and humming birds were playing all around us. We saw a deer and cooked on the camp stove and drank a whole bunch of the provided water(thanks again). There is a cute outdoor shower...my jam, that was really cold, but nice to rinse off. Mostly sat on the porch because it was super hot out but when went to bed the soft lighting and fans kept us comfortable. Almost want to keep it a secret, but this place was a diamond in the ruff.

Nature Camper is an absolute treasure of a space! We stayed in the trailer and it is wonderfully appointed with hot and cold running water, a propane stove, outdoor shower, a gorgeous back deck, and a hip composting toilet in the outhouse. The property is magnificent, offering some great hikes and gorgeous scenery. The trails are clearly marked, and you can actually enter the Wayne National Forest from the property. We happend to be there for one rainy night, and the sounds were magnificent. We also hear the coyotes calling! There were no fewer than 10 bird species singing in the morning! The site is also cloe to everything in the Marietta area. You are very close to the town, the Ohio river, the Wayne National Forest. serval trailheads, and lots of attractions. I highly recommend The Nature Camper!

J was very attentive and thorough with my needs and communication. The camper was so cute and had a great rustic and modern style on the inside. The shower and the outhouse was the most impressive. Upscale and clean for a camper vibe. There is access to trails you can spend hours walking in just behind the camper. Its also 20 min from town so a doable drive just in case you need to pick up anything you forgot.

This was a great camp spot for my partner and our dogs. Lovely camper with a lot of amenities. Bathroom was very nice and kept clean. Lots of great trails nearby to hike. Great to chill by the fire and since it was cold out, it was very nice to have heating in the camper. Overall great time; will be back if ever in the area again!

J was very hospitable and the space was perfect for a weekend away with my husband. We camped here in January, so it was pretty cold outside but so cozy with the wood burning stove inside the cabin. There are lots of trails to explore the property and are easily accessible from the cabin. The hills are steep though, but worth the climb!

Wife and I had all we needed at the Nature Camper. Camper has water, hot water, stove, oven, fridge, microwave, and a Solo Firepit on the private deck. Lots of charm inside, more like a tiny house with completely new appliances and birch walls. Best of all you are on 500 private acres.
We hiked part of the 10 miles of trails in total privacy. Site also has huge grassy tent area you can expand into with large fire-pit - comes with the camper so no neighbors.
Owner’s family goes back to the original log cabin, that is still there off one of the trails. Owner has made his own private preserve, He was interesting, respectful and responsive. Camper pdf had all the details you need.
Easy drive to Marietta Ohio River historic areas, shopping, dining, activities, and Wayne NF trails. No cell or WiFi but it comes in as you drive down the road. Unplug and enjoy!
