Coon Creek Cove Hideaway

4 sites · RVs, Tents80 acres · Gassaway, WV
Welcome to Our Homestead Campground! Our secluded 80-acre farm is nestled in a valley between three mountains, where two babbling creeks meet—over two miles from the nearest residence. We raise chickens, ducks, and pigs while practicing permaculture and organic farming, using solar energy for parts of our operation. Enjoy the peace and quiet of our hideaway with modern conveniences like electricity and internet. We’re happy to share our homestead lifestyle or simply provide a quiet place for you to relax. Camp at the Main Circle near our home trailer, cabana, and bonfire area, with access to electricity and Wi-Fi. For a more rustic experience, Kolb Field offers a peaceful spot along Coon Creek, shaded by a majestic walnut tree. You’re also welcome to camp almost anywhere on the property to find your perfect spot. A lightly traveled public dirt road runs through our property. While an SUV or 4x4 is recommended, regular cars can access the site, and we have parking for standard vehicles. Please check with us in advance if you plan to bring an RV. Our farm is a great destination for overland camping—perfect for getting your truck a little dirty! We are cautiously dog-friendly. Our farm dogs patrol the property to protect our free-roaming animals, so visiting dogs must be well-behaved, leashed, and comfortable around other animals. If you're unsure about compatibility, please reach out for advice. Our dogs will come to your camp to "check you out". If your dog has a problem with other dogs that are new to them you must let us know so we can control our dogs. We have had people come with problem dogs and not tell us so, we are asking for a $1 extra that we now require as a pet fee. While you're here, visit our local businesses in Gassaway. At Bigfoot Braxxie's Bikes, you can rent a bike and explore the 40-mile Elk River Rail Trail. Trailhead Farm Meats & More offers our farm-raised, all-natural meats and other local products. For instant or same-day bookings, please note that we may not always be available to respond immediately, but our directions are accurate. If you don’t hear from us right away, you’re still welcome to come and enjoy your stay. We look forward to hosting you and sharing the beauty of our homestead!

Amish Farm Campsite at Chesterhill

3 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents7 acres · Chesterhill, OH
This campsite is beautifully situated on an active Amish farm in Chesterhill, Ohio. There’s a fire pit and outhouse for your use. There are no hookup’s, but you can bring your off grid camper or tents. Emanuel and Lilly operate a stunning 60+ acre farm, wood shop, gardens, and chicken coop. Both are wonderful people and always a pleasure to just sit back and have a nice leisurely chat. They belong to a traditional Amish group, so there isn't electricity on site. There are special booking guidelines because the family does not have telephone, however, someone is generally available at the farm house. Once you set up on site Emanuel will stop down to say hello and make sure your settled in just fine. My name is Chad. I am helping the family with bookings because they do not use the internet or any electronic devices. I am available by cell phone to make sure your stay is perfect.

Appalachian Retreat

5 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents500 acres · Newport, OH
Located in the rolling Appalachian hills of Southeast Ohio. This farm has been in our family since 1869 when our relatives settled here from Germany. This particular location was originally a home site for my grandfather's sister, Lizzie. Originally farmed for cattle and sheep with many orchards over the years our property is now mostly mature forest. Southeast Ohio, including our property is known for its hilly topography and microclimates. Hills range from 400 to 1,000 feet. On our property you will find dry ridges with tree species like Chestnut Oak or humid valleys that resemble a moss-covered temperate rain forest from the pacific northwest. Much of our property has now reached late stage mature forests with an open understory. Nearly 500 acres of land with an additional 200+ acres of Wayne National Forest adjacent to our farm and close proximity to other Wayne areas for outdoor activities. We have nearly 10 miles of available trails for hiking. Many activities can be done at or centered around our property such as excellent and challenging road biking, mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, kayaking and boating. We are about one mile from the Little Muskingum river. A great river for kayak trips. The Wayne Kinderhook horse and hiking trail is roughly 5 miles from our location. Hike to the Irish Run Natural Land bridge trail also a short drive to the trailhead from our property. Riding your motorcycle up Rt. 26 is great! A great Ohio byway for scenic driving. This is also a great home base for dual sport or adventure bike motorcycle riders to camp while adventuring along gravel roads through Appalachia. If motorcycles aren't your method of entertainment and travel. Bring your horse and ride on several of our trails. From steep ascents to long flat ridge lines, you will have lots of time to immerse yourself with nature while hiking. We're next to a section of the Wayne National Forest and a short drive to other similar Wayne activities. It's a great place to hear a whip-poor-will sing on a spring night while stargazing as you see a satellite zip past in the sky. If you like to camp, but don't want the busy public park experience then you will enjoy the privacy of our camping location. Camp at our main site along the forest edge near the country backroad with a fire ring and mowed grassy area or there are also several backwoods primitive camp sites available for someone who wants to rough it. We are also only about a 20-minute drive to downtown Marietta. Where you can find restaurants, bars, and many other fun activities.

Dogwood Cabin

1 site · Lodging25 acres · Chesterhill, OH
Dogwood Cabin is an off grid experience. Think glamping. It is set on 25 acres in the rolling hills of Morgan County in southeast OH, close to the village of Chesterhill. Hidden in the woods, back a gravel driveway. No electricity, no running water, no central heat, no WiFi, no cell service. Truly getting out into nature without distractions. Hang your hammock between trees. Build a fire to grill your meals. Relax on the porch swing or by the fire. Hike the property, play in the creek. Dogwood Cabin has a small kitchenette. There is a propane camping stove and some pots, pans, coffee maker, and dishes. We have a grill to place over the fire pit. There are 4 mattresses in the loft. No linens. Bring sleeping bags, etc. No running water. Bring water in jugs for drinking, cleaning up and dousing the fire. Buddy propane heater to take off the chill inside, but not make it cozy. Bring a flashlight or lantern. We have several battery lanterns. On low, the lights should work for 6-8 hours. On high, much less. An outhouse (think wooden porta potty) is not far from the cabin. No cell service or internet. Chesterhill is about 2 miles and has service in numerous places on Main St. We have gone up the hill at the church in Todds - right on Goshen Run, left on St Rt 377, about 2 miles. Firewood is not provided. You can bring your own or scrounge the woods for dead branches and twigs. Please douse the fire before leaving. Rake leaves away from the fire pit. Dry materials could easily start a forest fire. 8 plastic deck chairs are stacked on the porch. Please put them back and secure the cover before you leave. We encourage you to get groceries on your way to the cabin, since it is 30 minutes to a decent grocery store. Chesterhill has Ron's Convenience and Restaurant where you can buy subs, pizza, burgers, fries, and groceries. Triple Nickel Diner in Chesterhill is another neat place to eat. No motorcycles on the driveway. You may enjoy hiking the 25 acres on the property. Nature is awesome, but check yourselves and your pet for ticks. 24 hours before your arrival, you should receive a message with the code to get in at the digital entry door, plus a bit more information that you may enjoy.

The Campsite at Dragonfly Lake

1 site · Tent20 acres · Woodsfield, OH
The Campsite at Dragonfly is located on a secluded and private 20 acres in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. The campsite is a 1000 ft hike from the parking area. The campsite includes a fire ring and firewood and a nearby chemical toilet. There are various water sport activities like fishing, kayaking, or paddle boating and plenty of hiking trails to explore the great outdoors! This is a nature lovers paradise... enjoy watching ducks, geese, blue heron, egrets, hawks, varieties of turtles, largemouth bass, catfish, bluegill, deer and many more animals. Please note that this hike is up and down a decent grade, so please plan accordingly and take this in consideration if any one in your party has physical limitations. During your stay you are welcome to enjoy the lake, we have kayaks, pedal boat, jon boat and stand up paddle boards located at the floating dock on the dam. You are welcome to use them all, weather permitting, just please return them to their proper place and in the same condition you found them in. The lake is deep so please make sure to keep any non-swimmers safe with the use of flotation devices. If you plan to fish you are welcome to bring your own fishing gear. The lake is stocked with bluegill, large-mouth bass, and catfish but it is nature so you may find other species that we don’t know about! We also provide firewood so you don't have to worry about packing it!!! Other things you will probably want to pack for your stay include: Sturdy shoes for walking to your camp site and exploring the trails. Please ask to see what is available/restricted during your stay. Flashlights/Headlamps for navigating outside after dark Bug spray Jacket/long pants (it can get chilly in the evenings in the spring and fall) Frequent questions and answers: *Can you drive up and park by the campsite - No, The camp site is a short 1000 ft hike from the parking area *How do you get your things to the camp site - Pack light... there is a hand cart to transport things up and down the hill. *Will there be other people on the property... there are two cabins on the other side of the lake... we have made every effort in layout and design of the property to maximize seclusion and privacy and the vast majority of our guest appreciate and are respectful of it. *Are there shared common areas and things - The lake is private and shared by the guest of the cabins... boats and life jackets are shared and are to be returned to the main dock area at the dam. *Can we swim in the lake - We have made no accommodations for swimming... it is a muddy bottom lake... Many people have swam in it... like all outdoor activities, they are at your own risk and should have adult supervision when appropriate. *Is there phone service.... service is spotty. *Is there a bathroom... there is a chemical toilet just a short walk from the campsite *Are there weeds and plant life in the lake - Yes, it is a natural body of water not a treated urban drainage ditch... we have at times had issues with vegetation and algae but we have made great strides to keep the lake clear and as natural as we can. *Can I bring a generator... no... we like to maintain the sound of nature for our guest. **Please check out our area tourism website for activities and area information** discover monroe county .org Check out our 5 star lodging reviews online for "The Nest Lodging and Rentals" located near Woodsfield, Ohio.

Near/Far Cabin and Campground

2 sites · Lodging, Tents15 acres · Stewart, OH
Immerse yourself in nature alongside a working farm! Our 15 acre property has many features. Enjoy hiking trails, a small 3 season creek, rock walls and large boulders, trickling waterfalls and caves if you're feeling adventurous. (The cave is currently an off trail experience, is only accessible at certain times of the year and requires steep hiking and some climbing large rocks.) An abundance of wildflowers and native flowering trees grow amongst the beautiful rolling hills of forest. In spring the wildflowers paint the landscape, in the summer the fireflies compete with the stars in a sparkling symphony and in the Fall colors fill the trees. You will experience true darkness, bright stars and the simplicity of being out in the country. We are a small homestead raising much of our own food. It's likely you will be greeted by dogs, cats, chickens, sheep, pigs and a cow. The property is adjacent to hunting club land, which means hundreds of acres of undeveloped, wooded and wild. Wildlife is abundant, including coyote, fox, bobcat, turkey, raccoon, hawk, owl, (reportedly) bear and lots of deer. Most are nocturnal, so you may hear them rather than see them, but they are near. Our livestock guardian dog keeps the pasture occupants safe, but that means nighttime barking. We provide noise machines in the cabin for white noise and you are welcome to bring a small fan. We live in a rural neighborhood, so there will be occasional sounds from other dwellings, there is a dog rescue across the street and although infrequent, you might hear ATV's and gun shots from down the road. There are copperheads snakes in the area as well as black widow and brown recluse spiders. You will not likely see them but it is wise to wear boots and stay on the trails. The cabin and campground currently share a composting toilet/outhouse with a space for hanging a shower bag (you must bring your own shower bag). There are 5 gallon jugs of water for filling shower bag, hand washing station and dish washing. There is a Berkey water filter in the cabin, but campers will need to bring their own drinking water. Please be aware that you may have minimal cell service during your stay and there is no wifi. The best place to get a good cell signal is the parking lot. The town of Amesville is filled with personality and is just 7 miles away. With a convenience store, park and a wonderful restaurant, Parks Place, which serves American fare cooked with a chefs flare and local ingredients. There is also a community studio that offers yoga and other fitness classes. Amesville hosts Coonskin Saturdays from May to October with music, food, classes and more on the Third Saturday of each month. The city of Athens is 20 miles away, with many restaurants and shops, ample grocery stores, movie theaters etc, as well as the beautiful campus of Ohio University. Strouds Run State Park and several Nature Preserves are within 15 miles of us, Baileys Bike Trail System is 20 miles away, Burr Oak is 25 miles away, and Hocking Hills State Park is 50 miles away. It is a spectacular area with so much to offer in the way of hiking and other nature related activities.

Sparkman Lake

15 sites · Lodging, RVs40 acres · Woodsfield, OH
At Sparkman Lake, we are a small family-owned and operated business, a private little get-a-way spot, and a place you "can get lost for a little while". Nestled in the hills of Monroe County, Ohio, Sparkman Lake (approx. 3 acres) sits on 40+ acres of the wooden area directly off State Route 145. We are located between Malaga & Miltonsburg. Sitting just a few miles away from the intersection with State Route 800 in Malaga, Ohio. The site offers 5 fully furnished cozy rustic rental cabins, a 4 bedroom deluxe cabin & 12 RV full hook-up lots. Individual parking is available at each lot. We took over in December 2018. We are constantly upgrading our property and completing projects to help improve our beautiful piece of land. It started with some simple property cleanup, clearing brush, fixing broken structures, and adding stone for instant transformations. Our goal is to offer our community a local place to visit and enjoy themselves, the great outdoors, fishing, pedal boating, and sitting around a campfire. As well as a close option to stay when you visit our wonderful county. We hope to continue providing this service.
