These roads can take you to the hikes, the store, cafe, or sample the sights like the 1928 ferry "Ocean City" slowly sinking into the mud in Oro Bay. There is often deer, hawks, eagles, coyotes, bunnies, and sometimes humpback or orca whales, all within sight of the cabin. It's a great place to escape the hectic pace of the city and enjoy the solitude interrupted only by the sound of the birds, and perhaps the distant trains about 3 miles away. Writer looking for a spot to focus on your next book? Reader wanting to finish a good book? Both are a perfect fit. Dogs are welcome but cannot run free due to the native animals that call the area home. The ferry is a 1 hour walk so cars are recommended. The Steilacoom ferry to Anderson Island leaves from the wonderful historic town of Steilacoom which is also well worth visiting. There is no smoking of any kind in the cabin or on the property. I call this opportunity "Wild Card Camping" because what I'm offering isn't typical: camping plus limited, shared use of my empty vacation cabin while it's being renovated for a fall rental. If you would like to bring a pet, please add the Pet Fee which is listed as an Extra during the booking proc Here's why the location is so special: A short 10- to 15-minute walk through the nearby historic hamlet of Ellisport brings you to KVI, the island's largest sand spit and one of its best beaches. You can also launch a kayak or paddleboard from Crow Beach, a sandy shoreline right next to the bus stop and even closer to your campsite. During July and August, you can pick blackberries on the property, listen to owls at night, hear eagles and ospreys calling during the day, and maybe even spot a deer wandering through. Hike or bike to a local café for coffee and pastries, or hop on the Route 119 bus (weekdays only), which stops next to Crow Beach, and head into town to shop or dine at one of Vashon's wonderful restaurants. Ride the bus in the other direction to hike the bluffs at the south end of Maury Island. Visit the golf course for a meal or a round of golf, or purchase a $17 day pass to the Vashon Athletic Club if you'd like to work out. You can also take the bus to either the north or south ferry terminal for day trips to Seattle or Tacoma. We had a wonderful time at the Alder Grove Retreat! The cabin was comfortable, thoughtfully designed, and stocked, and the view was beautiful. A perfect place to spend the night after kayaking on Lake Alder. It was also a cool place to wait out a thunder, lightning, and hail storm the next morning. Dawson was an attentive and responsive host, we are just sad that we got rained out this morning and didn't get to stop by the crystal shop!

Bummed the cedar river trail was washed out further down as we tried to walk to lake wilderness for the firework show. We had a lovely time at Mokey’s adorable treehouse cabin. There’s nothing like waking up in the forest. The animals were pretty loud in the morning (some ravens were loudly yelling lol) but we found it more entertaining than intrusive. Loved the cedar hot tub! Mokey was welcoming and responsive and made everything easy. The cabin is super cute and compact—we crammed in 4 people but would recommend keeping it to 2 or 3 for maximum comfort. The compost outhouse was the cleanest and least smelly I’ve ever used. We had a fun outing to Centralia with its historic charm, and enjoyed beautiful farm fresh eggs for breakfast at the cabin while looking out at treetops. Would definitely stay here again!

Cute place, but too close to the other house and dock to be a favorite place for us. We kept our dog on leash since the house on the same property also had a dog visiting. Great for a little family or if your priority is lake time. They have kayaks to rent but I didn't see life vests. If you use the heater fire place use the extension cord from the bed drawer otherwise it will keep tripping the breaker. Very responsive host, nice little dock and cute walkway down. We brought blankets because the cost to add them seemed too high considering the cost of the rental, but when we arrived there were blankets and pillows. Would have been nice to know as our car is small😂. I'd suggest bringing a camp shower if you plan to swim. We were grateful to get out for a night.

2 nights at The Plank and Pillow on Pirate Cove

Argh!! Absolutely loved staying at The Plank and Pillow! Fabulously themed pirate cabin right on the lake with all the water crafts needed to enjoy the surrounding area. The lake is huge with lots of fingers but quiet due to motor boats being limited to 5mph. The hubby caught 2 big fish off the pedal boat, the kayaks were used till we could paddle no more, and my 17 year old loves herself a paddleboard! Roasted hotdogs and s’mores at the fire pit. The evening lighting that kicked in on its own was very cool! My crew has stayed at many a lakeside cabin and this is our new favorite spot. We had such a good time, even with cloudy weather and using a portapotty. Exceptional location, exceptional hosts! We highly recommend and will definitely drop anchor again in the future

3 nights at Cedar River Retreat

My two daughters and I had a wonderful week at the cabin. It was very accessible. I am notoriously under prepared for trips but my husband packed us so we had everything. This cabin was perfect for me because it had everything I would have forgotten otherwise! Smores, bedding, silverware, cups, tp, beer. We did not go without! The host went above and beyond while respecting our privacy. My children like to act like witches around a fire. She even allowed us to shorten our stay (summer camp was only 4 days, not 5). Which ended up disappointing my eldest daughter! We would've stayed another night if needed. No problem. We had plenty of room and heat. The outside fire was stubborn but, again, the host had us covered with all supplies we needed. It was one of the best cabins I've ever stayed in. Bravo! Thank you. We would come back in a second.

3 nights at The Village at Rainier

The tiny cabin had more than enough amenities for a couple to come back to after a long day at Mount Rainier NP. We cooked our meals using the stove top and electric oven, though being limited to one appliance cooking at a time due to the electrical circuit was inconvenient. The shared bathroom and shower/dish washing rooms were great. We never had to coordinate with the other guests at the property to use them. The bed was comfortable and well off the floor so it felt like glamping. There was a lovely porch but we mostly ate inside.

Weekend Trip to Cedar River Retreat

The little cabin was peaceful and well thought out! I loved the little touches of whimsy throughout the property and having the trail so close by was convenient. I slept really well and it was nice to have more comforts than tent camping. Plus waking up to the symphony of birds was incredible! My pups also loved their stay. I’ll definitely be returning!

It was a lovely place to stay. I enjoyed hearing the chickens and turkeys in the morning. I loved the farm tour and the wood fired hot tub was a treat. Mokey was friendly and had everything stocked well in the place. I would definitely recommend this place for a great place to stay.
