The historic Johnson Farm and Museum can be a great place to sample island life from 100+ years ago. Pay extra for use of the twin electric bikes to ride the many quiet, scenic roads around the island. These roads can take you to the hikes, the store, cafe, or sample the sights like the 1928 ferry "Ocean City" slowly sinking into the mud in Oro Bay. There is often deer, hawks, eagles, coyotes, bunnies, and sometimes humpback or orca whales, all within sight of the cabin. It's a great place to escape the hectic pace of the city and enjoy the solitude interrupted only by the sound of the birds, and perhaps the distant trains about 3 miles away. Writer looking for a spot to focus on your next book? Reader wanting to finish a good book? Both are a perfect fit. Dogs are welcome but cannot run free due to the native animals that call the area home. The ferry is a 1 hour walk so cars are recommended. The Steilacoom ferry to Anderson Island leaves from the wonderful historic town of Steilacoom which is also well worth visiting. There is no smoking of any kind in the cabin or on the property. Weekend Trip to Cedar River Retreat

Cedar River Cabin was just what we needed to ring in the last weekend of summer! The hosts are amazing and were very patient with my pregnancy brain messing up the code to get into the cabin 😂. The land is beautiful and they have everything you could need! I packed way too much! Brittany really takes care of her guests. My dogs loved the property too! 1 night at The Legacy Basecamp in Elbe

As the property manager and host for The Legacy Basecamp, I wanted to experience the space firsthand and it truly delivered. While I manage the bookings and guest experience rather than stewarding this incredible land long-term, staying here gave me a full appreciation for what makes this spot so special. There is plenty of open space for the family to run around, play, and unwind. One of our favorite details was hearing the faint whistle of the train passing in the distance,it adds such a classic, peaceful touch to the woods. The large covered outdoor space was a lifesaver for escaping the midday heat, and it will clearly be the ultimate cozy refuge once the fall and winter rains set in. Between the fully equipped indoor kitchen and the versatile outdoor cooking setups, meal prep was effortless with tons of options. After full days outside, the beds were incredibly comfortable, and everything we needed was right at hand. We left feeling completely refreshed.

Weekend Trip to The Plank and Pillow on Pirate Cove

Great location and wonderful hosts. Perfect launching off site for Mt Rainier. And a wonderful place to return to relax. We had so much fun on the lake. Would love to see an indoor restroom, or one that didn't require a hike up a bunch of stairs and a hill to access (for my mom), but otherwise, truly a perfect stay!

This was such a cool stay. The location was perfect and we had an amazing time exploring the whole property. The different areas to relax were very thoughtfully placed throughout the property, and it was a nice walk to the lake. The bed was comfy and the space was clean. Loved having the fire pit at night. Would definitely stay at this magical place again!!

3 nights at Cedar River Retreat

This place is incredible! It’s so well maintained. I was impressed by the lack of spiderwebs on the cabin. 😜 And as others have mentioned, it smells lovely inside. My favorite features were by far the wind phone and community cabinet. We painted rocks and then forgot to leave them there so I’m sure we’ll be back to drop those off. Access to Cedar River Trail is easy and it takes just a few minutes to hop over to Cascadia Pizza or the market. We had fun playing a hot wheels treasure hunt but a few were never found. So have fun to whomever comes next! 😆 Host was super easy to contact with any questions along the way and I’d absolutely return here again. For us, this retreat (just 17 minutes away from home) was exactly what we needed. Highly recommend this gem to anyone who wants a little break from everyday life. Cell service was great but not internet. But you wouldn’t want to use those things here anyways. Thanks again Brittany!

3 nights at Pipe Lake Cabin

Absolutely lovely little cabin with amazing access to the lake! It was so cozy and had so many great accessories and additions to make our time enjoyable. We especially loved the puzzles, board games and DVDs! The cooking applicances and kitchenware made it so we didn't have to pack anything of our own, we just bought food at the Safeway 10 minutes away. Our dog absolutely loved jumping off the dock right into the lake with us, and we took her to various dog friendly parks in the area in the day time. Would highly recommend for couples of any age

Our second summer visiting and it was great again. Very thoughtful and communicative host. Fun location with swimming, kayaks, fishing, brand new dock. Rooms were clean with lots of useful items. Terrific picnic/fire pit area. Great lighting. Look forward to returning

Perfect, quiet overnight get away for my spouse and I! We got dinner at the island restaurant and took the nice walk down to the beach access just in time for dusk. Sitting outside on the small deck into the night was super relaxing and we’ll definitely be back!

The little cabin was very private and quaint plus a perfect place to bring your dog. There are many extra ammenities the host provides: water dispenser, propane for stove, firewood and fire starters. We found fun surprises inside as well as in the forest nearby. My grandkids and I felt very safe. The location was also quiet and peaceful. We will be returning!

Cedar River Retreat is my pup’s and my favorite! We visit the tent site and the cabin multiple times a year. Brittany is always so kind, friendly, and responsive. I’m so happy to have shared this relaxing oasis with my family! They remarked on the amenities and extras available that I’ve always appreciated about CRR. We had a few other friends join just for the day and there was plenty of room for everyone to stretch their legs and enjoy the large outdoor space. Another 5 star stay at CRR on the books!

1 night at Cedar River Retreat

We had such a wonderful stay at Cedar River Cabin! We visited with our toddler and absolutely loved our time there. The cabin was cozy, comfortable, and peaceful, exactly what we were hoping for in a relaxing family getaway. The cabin was very thoughtfully stocked and had all the amenities we needed. We especially appreciated having plenty of cooking supplies, which made it easy to prepare meals during our stay. There were also logs available for us to use, which was such a nice touch and made the cabin experience even cozier. The location was great as well. There was a really nice pizza place nearby when we didn’t feel like cooking, and we felt very safe and comfortable throughout our stay. It was a wonderful place to slow down, enjoy the surroundings, and spend some quality time together as a family. The host was warm, welcoming, and very responsive, which made the whole experience even better. Everything felt well cared for and thoughtfully arranged for guests. We left with some really lovely memories and will definitely be returning to Cedar River Cabin. We would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a cozy, peaceful, and family-friendly getaway!

loved this little glamping/cabin, it was a perfect escape. the cabin had all the essentials to cook breakfast and dinners. s'mores on the deck at night, and the private dock and lake during the day were fantastic. neighbors are very close but that did not bother us one bit. can't wait to come back, this is a rebook spot!

Alder Grove Retreat was such a beautiful space! It was surrounded by trees and had a beautiful view of the forest. We really enjoyed the sauna and the peacefulness that the space offered. Dawson was very communicative and the experience felt well thought-out. Dawson and Gabrielle are also wonderful people if you happen to run to into them! Highly recommend and would come again

1 night at Cedar River Retreat

Wish it was longer! Kid friendly, and dog friendly. There is a trail right next to the cabin so people on bikes or walking dogs. It's a wonderful little slice of summer vacation. I would love to return again with my family. There's also a river about 5 minutes up the road with a cute pizza place called Cascadia. Drive into property is also not too bad on a non 4×4 car (Kia soul). I highly recommend a stay here.

It was very cozy and close to Rainier for our hiking group. Had everything we needed to pack up and then come home to cook. Went into town to grab some food and shop.
