3 nights at Fiddlers Green Farm

We had an awesome time. We stayed on the bear creek side and it was better then we thought. Very clean and plenty of wood. The owner treated us to an unexpected "bonfire". Lol.. lol. We were able to relax near the creek and set up the tents just 20 ft from the creeks edge. Hopper(the dog) was cool too, he checked on us a few times. The owner was great, very responsive, very laid back, very cool. We will definitely book again. And most importantly, the bathroom was super clean and toilet paper and wet wipes stocked.

Susan’s land is a great place to get outside! There’s plenty of room on site as well as a clean composting toilet. We went into Shenandoah NP which was about 30 minutes from the site. Two very sweet dogs greeted us and said goodbye when we left! They provided a good amount of fire wood and there’s also a trashcan on site.

This is my second time staying here and I loved it each time! A lot of fun activities to do with a group and/or solo at the site. Kayaking and paddle boarding are available as well as an easy nature hike with lots of nature to enjoy. Portapotties are well kept and stocked with essentials. Very clear view of the stars at night. Greg is very kind and helpful and has made each trip a success. Of course, Corky and Tula are the best cat-hosts as well! Will be back again!

Absolutely an amazing spot. Secluded, but you know Matt is just down the road if you need him. Was great to meet and he let's you do his thing while at the same time you know he is available. Loved that I could just park my car and unload my stuff and didn't need to haul anything more than a few feet. Stream/river is just a quick hike down the path and is just beautiful and peaceful. Wish I brought my rod. Not a lot of prepared wood, but there was plenty of natural wood around to keep the fire going, so no complaint there. I'm sure if I asked, he would have processed some for me. But it wasn't necessary. Absolutely would/will stay again.

We came in late and left early, so didn’t get to spend any time exploring, but had a lovely peaceful night. The kitchen pavilion was great, lovely not to need to bring a tarp with rain threatening, and if we come back our children will love the little playground structure.

Overall, we enjoyed camping on Greg’s land. It was a a great space for our large group of 18 adults to gather. Pros: easy access to water/river, we were able to fish (didn’t catch anything), we had access to fire wood, fast communication, good directions to the land, Greg met us to answer questions. He was friendly. Cons: only one port-a-potty site near where wood is stored which is a very far walk from our campsite (especially in dark at night), the roadway to enter the property can use an upgrade (extremely steep with 2 huge holes -requires 4wd when wet), 5 large wolf dogs on the property were “walked” by owner in the morning and I witnessed them poop near our site (was not cleaned up), campsites are fairly close together (great if with family—not so great for spaces from other campers) Overall we enjoyed it. We visited crystal grottoes caverns and a local vineyard. The walking patch behind the property is pretty.

Weekend Trip to Bears Den Campground

I set up for my first solo camp trip with my dog here at site 2. The host was friendly and I love that my dog was allowed here. You are allowed one (5-gallon, about the equivalent of a standard wood bundle) bucket of free firewood and each bucket thereafter is $9. The campsites are spacious enough for multiple tents around the fire, although I did notice that the ground of some sites were much more uneven than others. It did rain the one night that I stayed so I did not take the opportunity to try out the showers but it was nice knowing that I had the option to. I think my only complaint about this place is that there is a $3 parking fee, which I don’t mind at all, but I wish I was made aware of this before the trip so I could’ve brought change to deposit in the box. Instead I had to take a $20 bill to pay for parking at the counter in the building. I’d like to see the parking fee included in the cost of the campsite. I’d rather pay for everything at once, even if the upfront is more expensive. Otherwise no complaints from me! Aside from some mildly annoying campers at the site next to me, everything went smoothly! I will definitely be staying here again and next time I know to bring the parking fee!

I tent camped at this site in late April. The site was flat, provided electric, and had a really nice fire pit. Views were so pretty and I had the chance to greet some cows and horses. I only wish the weather cooperated a little more--if you're tent camping definitely be ready for some winds. But it was a great time and centrally located to lots of great MD sites and wineries. I'd come back if I'm in the area again for sure.

There is evidence of civil war activity here and the old river ford is on our property. Creek and river access make this a beautiful, peaceful place that is full of life. The energy here is overwhelmingly positive. Our house was built in the 1850s and the neighboring farm was built shortly after—lots of history on this property. You will be able to camp right next to Glade Creek which is always cool, clean, and refreshing. Our goal with opening the land up for camping is to eventually phase out commercial farming on the property and transform it into woodlands using native plants and trees. The campground is situated in the wooded area on the back of 27 acre horse farm which is known as "The Stables at Mezza Luna." There is Wi-Fi to all the sites. Every year in the spring there are 4-6 Thoroughbred foals born that eventually will become racehorses. They live on the farm until they are 2 years old and then they go off to begin their racing career. In the daytime, when you are not sitting around your campfire, you can walk the fence lines and visit with the Mares and Foals or just watch them frolic in the fields. Hint! "They love peppermints, carrots and apples." Who knows, you might get to meet a future Kentucky Derby winner.
