Our campsite is located along a gurgling stream (Cub Run), perfect for wading in on hot summer days or falling asleep to as the evenings cool. Across the stream horses pasture, and in the field next to the campsite several goats graze. We are in a fantastic biking location: the winding back country roads make for wonderful road bike excursions. We are also just minutes down the road from the Western Slopes trails, over 25 miles of mountain bike and hiking trails. Other great hiking trails are nearby as well, and the Blue Ridge Mountains (Appalachian Trail) are an easy half-hour drive away. The wooded area is next to my house. There's about 4 acres to explore and a gravel road rarely traveled for a nice walk to a view for a great sunset. Harrisonburg is 5 minutes from here and has lots of night life, micro breweries etc. I have long power cords if you need electric at the campsite. You may hear owls hooting at night. The campsite is under white pines with a thick bed of pine needles. There are several campsites under the red cedar trees that are naturally bug and mosquito resistant. Shenandoah National Park is about 45 minutes away if you go to the 33 entrance and 45 minutes away to go to the Luray entrance. Lots of bears there and hikes to waterfalls. No hunting there. Solar panels provide half of my energy needs. GW National forest has lots of hiking and mt biking and is half an hour away. Great views of the mountains from the campsite area. I'm dedicated to having lots of native plants and trees. I do not spray any pesticides. Plenty of free firewood. Not too far off interstate 81. I give tours of the mushroom farm whenever the weather isn't below freezing. I don't recommend anything larger than a conversion van. Very small pull behind campers are OK . All campers are required to leave every day from 1 to 5. Belongings may be kept here. There is a bathroom inside the house. No showers , please guys relieve yourself behind a tree instead of tying up a bathroom .. Harpine Highway is nearby and does have some trafffic noise but it's not close enough to discourage most campers.

Our homestead is located up a steep gravel road and though the property is secluded, the cabin is near the main house. Be aware there are snakes and spiders; creepy crawlers of all types. We are a chemical free property, please don’t bring toxins onto the site (this includes chemical bug sprays). We’ll help remove critters as needed. Elevation 1200ft; we’re 1/4 mile from Shenandoah National Park. Guided hikes and farm tours available (for a fee) if interested! We also have eggs for sale when our chickens are laying.Come stay in a secluded, relaxed environment where you can unplug and reconnect with Nature. Take naps, sit by the campfire, quietly read or meditate without being attached to your daily gadgets. Take in the mountain air and allow yourself to balance mind, body and spirit.
My husband and I first lived on this property shortly after marrying 17 yrs ago, we moved to AK and back in 2013 and have been building our homestead from the ground up ever since. We love this mountain and consider our home a Beautiful Magical Place! We daily connect with the glorious natural elements surrounding us and give thanks constantly. We’ve learned a lot over the years about living with The Land and want to share this space with like-minded others. We tend to “rise with the Sun, and sleep when it’s done”, so don’t be surprised if you see David or myself, or our kids playing/working on site. If you like to chat, we’re usually available, if you like your privacy, we respect that too. There are a handful of neighbors, and sometimes cars travel up or down the road, but generally this is a quiet, peaceful area. Our two old time scotch collies keep most wildlife away, but once in a while you get a glimpse of turkey, or hawks, rabbits, etc…. Hiking and exploring the woods is welcome, but don’t stray to the neighbors
We recently acquired a rare chicken breed, Scots Dumpies, and are trying to increase the flock, so there may be a chance to see baby chicks. The Stars do their thing on clear nights and are an amazing sight with the near zero light pollution. We love to view the stars and Moon in all her phases.
We try to keep your need to bring much to a minimum, so we provide plenty of blankets and pillows ( or sleeping bag if desired), dishes and some cookware for over-the-fire meals, towels and wash cloths if a rain barrel “cat bath” is in order :), hand soap and toilet paper too!
Life is in constant fluctuation up here at our mountain home, which is how we like it! Camp out with us and see why!

Our 17 acre farm was originally part of a larger family farm and moonshine stills were once in operation on the property, now we grow veggies and berries. The Mayapples are prolific in spring and the fall colors are terrific.
The campsites are in the woods and around the field a distance away from the house. A Few “Concerns” to Clear Up
• “This isn’t off-grid.” If your idea of off-grid is 100 miles from civilization and reachable only by carrier pigeon, then sure — we’re not that. But there’s no power, no running water, no gas line, and nothing tied into municipal infrastructure. We’re powered by nature, not a utility bill. So yes, we’re off-grid — just not your wool-socks-and-Birkenstocks version of it. (Though, for the record, we wear Birkenstocks too.)
• “We were seen in towels.” Hmmm… which is why we gently suggest skipping the towel parades through camp. Our enclosed shower stalls are there for a reason: shower, dry off, then get dressed before rejoining the great outdoors.
• “It was in somebody’s backyard.” Sorry — our two acres aren’t tucked away in the middle of a federally protected reserve in the middle of nowhere. But our closest neighbor is nearly 300 feet away, and we happen to think riverside camping with a little civilization nearby is a pretty great trade-off.

If those realities feel unacceptable, we wish you luck finding a soundproof, neighbor-free, bird-mute utopia. But if you’re after a laid-back, laughter-filled, and unapologetically outdoor getaway on the banks of the South River — welcome. You’ve found it.

Located at the base of the western Massanutten Ridge in the Shenandoah Valley, our six-acre property is nestled in the hamlet of Keezletown. Our campsite is located along a gurgling stream (Cub Run), perfect for wading in on hot summer days or falling asleep to as the evenings cool. Across the stream horses pasture, and in the field next to the campsite several goats graze. We are in a fantastic biking location: the winding back country roads make for wonderful road bike excursions. We are also just minutes down the road from the Western Slopes trails, over 25 miles of mountain bike and hiking trails. Other great hiking trails are nearby as well, and the Blue Ridge Mountains (Appalachian Trail) are an easy half-hour drive away. Our area abounds with wineries and breweries, both in bucolic settings with gorgeous views or in downtown Harrisonburg, which is a 10-minute drive away, and also home to a variety of great dining options. Other options include the water park at the Massanutten Resort, just around the mountain from us, or kayaking on the Shenandoah River. Or spending a quiet day on the property in the shade of the sycamores, listening to the water flow by.

We built an all-season full capacity hot shower bathhouse with flush toilet, A-frame cabin, bigger electrical service, and wider road entrance for 30ft RVs, and Wi-Fi.

The wooded area is next to my house. There's about 4 acres to explore and a gravel road rarely traveled for a nice walk to a view for a great sunset. Harrisonburg is 5 minutes from here and has lots of night life, micro breweries etc. I have long power cords if you need electric at the campsite. You may hear owls hooting at night. The campsite is under white pines with a thick bed of pine needles. There are several campsites under the red cedar trees that are naturally bug and mosquito resistant. Shenandoah National Park is about 45 minutes away if you go to the 33 entrance and 45 minutes away to go to the Luray entrance. Lots of bears there and hikes to waterfalls. No hunting there. Solar panels provide half of my energy needs. GW National forest has lots of hiking and mt biking and is half an hour away. Great views of the mountains from the campsite area. I'm dedicated to having lots of native plants and trees. I do not spray any pesticides. Plenty of free firewood. Not too far off interstate 81. I give tours of the mushroom farm whenever the weather isn't below freezing. I don't recommend anything larger than a conversion van. Very small pull behind campers are OK . All campers are required to leave every day from 1 to 5. Belongings may be kept here. There is a bathroom inside the house. No showers , please guys relieve yourself behind a tree instead of tying up a bathroom .. Harpine Highway is nearby and does have some trafffic noise but it's not close enough to discourage most campers.

Share space on our small mountain homestead in the Appalachians. Stay in a tiny cabin with deck space and outdoor food prep area. Twin over Futon bunk bed(or a guest could sleep on the porch sofa which is a futon, if the weather is good. Drinking water provided if requested. Chicken, dogs and cats on the farm. Our homestead is located up a steep gravel road and though the property is secluded, the cabin is near the main house. It is a Family atmosphere and a living farm so there will be noise from domestic and wild animals. Unplug and reconnect with Nature. No Wi-Fi or electricity, but a mini solar panel charges a light. Be aware there are snakes and spiders; creepy crawlers of all types. We are a chemical free property, please don’t bring toxins onto the site (this includes chemical bug sprays). We’ll help remove critters as needed. Elevation 1200ft; we’re 1/4 mile from Shenandoah National Park. Guided hikes and farm tours available (for a fee) if interested! We also have eggs for sale when our chickens are laying.Come stay in a secluded, relaxed environment where you can unplug and reconnect with Nature. Take naps, sit by the campfire, quietly read or meditate without being attached to your daily gadgets. Take in the mountain air and allow yourself to balance mind, body and spirit.
My husband and I first lived on this property shortly after marrying 17 yrs ago, we moved to AK and back in 2013 and have been building our homestead from the ground up ever since. We love this mountain and consider our home a Beautiful Magical Place! We daily connect with the glorious natural elements surrounding us and give thanks constantly. We’ve learned a lot over the years about living with The Land and want to share this space with like-minded others. We tend to “rise with the Sun, and sleep when it’s done”, so don’t be surprised if you see David or myself, or our kids playing/working on site. If you like to chat, we’re usually available, if you like your privacy, we respect that too. There are a handful of neighbors, and sometimes cars travel up or down the road, but generally this is a quiet, peaceful area. Our two old time scotch collies keep most wildlife away, but once in a while you get a glimpse of turkey, or hawks, rabbits, etc…. Hiking and exploring the woods is welcome, but don’t stray to the neighbors
We recently acquired a rare chicken breed, Scots Dumpies, and are trying to increase the flock, so there may be a chance to see baby chicks. The Stars do their thing on clear nights and are an amazing sight with the near zero light pollution. We love to view the stars and Moon in all her phases.
We try to keep your need to bring much to a minimum, so we provide plenty of blankets and pillows ( or sleeping bag if desired), dishes and some cookware for over-the-fire meals, towels and wash cloths if a rain barrel “cat bath” is in order :), hand soap and toilet paper too!
Life is in constant fluctuation up here at our mountain home, which is how we like it! Camp out with us and see why!

Only 15 minutes from the Swift Run Gap Entrance to the Shenandoah National Park our farm has a mountain feel.
Our 17 acre farm was originally part of a larger family farm and moonshine stills were once in operation on the property, now we grow veggies and berries. The Mayapples are prolific in spring and the fall colors are terrific.
The campsites are in the woods and around the field a distance away from the house. There are walking trails and a pond and a hammock for relaxing, close to great hiking, summits and waterfalls, 50 minutes to Old Rag. A Few “Concerns” to Clear Up
• “This isn’t off-grid.” If your idea of off-grid is 100 miles from civilization and reachable only by carrier pigeon, then sure — we’re not that. But there’s no power, no running water, no gas line, and nothing tied into municipal infrastructure. We’re powered by nature, not a utility bill. So yes, we’re off-grid — just not your wool-socks-and-Birkenstocks version of it. (Though, for the record, we wear Birkenstocks too.)
• “We were seen in towels.” Hmmm… which is why we gently suggest skipping the towel parades through camp. Our enclosed shower stalls are there for a reason: shower, dry off, then get dressed before rejoining the great outdoors.
• “It was in somebody’s backyard.” Sorry — our two acres aren’t tucked away in the middle of a federally protected reserve in the middle of nowhere. But our closest neighbor is nearly 300 feet away, and we happen to think riverside camping with a little civilization nearby is a pretty great trade-off.

If those realities feel unacceptable, we wish you luck finding a soundproof, neighbor-free, bird-mute utopia. But if you’re after a laid-back, laughter-filled, and unapologetically outdoor getaway on the banks of the South River — welcome. You’ve found it.

V's land was the perfect spot for our quick trip to Shenandoah! His instructions for getting there and what kind of vehicle needed were spot on and he was very communicative whenever I reached out. There was some firewood on site but I am not sure if it was left by last campers or him. We brought our own and used it as it recently rained when we camped. Beautiful fireplace and plenty of room to set up our tent, even though half of the area was a bit muddy from recent rain. It has a beautiful view of the sunrise in the morning and we were fortunate enough to wake up to snow our last morning there! Will definitely come back to this site if I get back to the area!

We really enjoyed camping at Cherokee Yurt! It is a very short drive from Luray caverns, so we would definitely visit them if we came back. The stars were beautiful at night. The yurt had more than enough space and items (even a waffle maker!). The only complaint we had was that the heat was not turned on when we came, despite the owner saying it would be, and when we did turn it on it only got up to about 50 degrees and took many hours. Admittedly, it was a very cold night--about 18 degrees--and for a glamping site with relatively poor insulation, that isn't entirely unexpected. But we would highly recommend that you temper your expectations if you stay in the winter and maybe bring a few heated blankets.

Jennifer and her partner were warm, friendly, responsive, and kind. Our honeymoon was made absolutely poetic by waking to a snow covered ground and a gingerly cared for goose egg wrapped in the warm wool of Josie. The map provided was detailed and offered many a good adventure. The eggs we gifted to our new landlord who enjoyed, and we are still sipping the camp roasted coffee with memories of sweetness dancing us to peace in this crazy world. This is my third winter in a row staying at Collie Cottage. It’s my favorite place to get away when it’s a little too cold outside to camp. The cabin is perfectly appointed for a comfortable yet minimal experience, and the hosts are friendly while also giving you plenty of privacy. Hope to be back soon!

The name Awesome View doesn’t even do it justice! We stayed last minute overnight and missed the sunset but if you can get there before sunset I would highly recommend it! The sunrise however was absolutely stunning! There are two horses on the property and they were a nice surprise when we woke up in the morning. My husband spoke with the owner and said she was very sweet and I had the pleasure of speaking with the owner’s father who lives up the road behind the property. He was so nice as he pulled in to make sure we were enjoying our stay. I would absolutely recommend a stay. It is also a short ride to the Skyline Dr through Shenandoah national park filled with a plethora of scenic overlooks. Perfect location! We would definitely stay again when we are in the area.

We were looking for a small place for a short getaway near the Shenedoah Valley. This was perfect! The little cabin had a futon and a top bunk bed. There was a chest beside the bed that had extra blankets and also doubled as a table. A small fire burning stove sat in the corner for warmth and cooking adjacent to a rocking chair and there was a cabinet with extra bedding. The beds were already made and included pullows. There was an area rug down to keep feet warm.
Outside was a fire pit for the cabin and just down the hill was a large community fire pit. The bathroom (in a seperate shed) was a small hand made toilet with a wood shaving bucket to cover waste (I actually prferred this to the typical porta potty as they smell awful). This toilet was well maintained. We brought our own drinking water, but they will provide for you upon request.
There is no shower, so bring your Dude Wipes if you plan on staying a bit.
This is not a place for anyone who needs alot of comforts from home or are use to staying in hotels. It is rustic! But if you can appreciate the little things, this is for you.
There are also two Collies that live there who will come visit you ro make sure you are safe ❤️. We definitely would recommend this place! Booking was easy and the owner came down to check on us to make sure we had everything we needed.

Super dope area to camp, a few sites to choose from but the pond side was a nice choice for me and my group. Greg reached out early in the day for entry information and was responsive when we got a bit lost (the darkness confused things a bit). Flat and safe land - ideal for pitching a tent, easy to navigate on site, gorgeous sunrise and since it's at the top of a hill the sun hits just right. Would love to visit again and would for sure recommend!

The Butterfly campsite is just beautiful. Great mountain views and plenty of seating to enjoy them. Jennifer was a helpful host who made it a comfortable and easy stay - the tipi tent with air mattress made this feel extra special!

Campsite was accurate described. Host was gracious and communicated quickly. Location was centrally located to lots of areas. Luray to the north, Elkton just around the corner, and Waynesboro to the south. Campsite was nice. Even with houses closer by, it was quiet and felt secluded. Except for maybe some nearby roosters to wake you up. Their horses loved to say hello especially once they learned you have apples for them. Would definitely stay here again.

We loved camping here. It is a beautiful spot and the hosts are super considerate with having everything you could possibly think of available. Highly recommend.

This location is pretty amazing. Right in the Blue Ridge Mountains you are surrounded.
The camp is easy to find with a beautiful drive in and out with restaurants and eateries near by.
Lots to do and I'll be back soon.
