Wolftrap Farm was owned by James & Dolley Madison during their time, and they called it Black Meadow.  Their home, Montpelier, is just across the mountains you see from the campsite.  It passed through the hands of various local farmers during the 19th & 20th centuries, and for many years was a dairy farm.  It became primarily a horse farm in the 1970's, when it was owned by the German Von Wulffen family.The Cuthrell family from the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area acquired the farm in 2003 and converted it to a resort farm, featuring upscale vacation homes.  Beginning around 2013, the farm started morphing into primarily a wedding venue, and now hosts over 60 weddings each year.

This is a very private and quiet location. You can settle in knowing that this listing includes a covered picnic area. Which has counter space for food prep and cooking that includes a small sink. But remember, it’s camping so you’ll need to come prepared with a camp stove for cooking, although I do have charcoal and propane grill’s at the picnic area. Fire pit for awesome evening camp fires with free split firewood on hand. All I ask is that you burn it like you split and stacked it. You can gather and relax under the covered picnic area for dinner preparation and/or lounging. We are located within an hour from Wintergreen, numerous wineries, craft beer locations and numerous hiking destinations. Harmony Hut has fresh linens but please bring sleeping bags and/or sheets for the screened in bunkhouse. River access to the James River is a short drive to Howardsville. There you will also find a General Store which offers you the basics, such as Beer, Wine, Ice and a few grocery items. They make the best homemade sandwiches and grilled burgers. Direct river access can be provided via special request. I can also provide shuttling services. But this needs to be mentioned well before your stay as I don't live up there year around.

Welcome to our small Farm, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Madison County, Virginia. We do not allow RVs or trailers on our main farm due to our narrow mountain driveway. Wisteria Camp has a private driveway, it can accommodate small RV/Trailers. Camper vans are welcome at the main farm! Our farm store includes our Animal Welfare Approved products such as Eggs, Chicken, Beef, Pork, Lamb and Dairy, as well as produce, jams, coffee and other items from our local community. We offer camping essentials, local art, bike rentals, farm experiences and tours. The property has miles of trails along mountain spring-fed streams, a small pond and access to three private acres on the Robinson River, a stocked Trout stream, just 2 miles down the road. Our property is centrally located to White Oak Canyon (20 minutes) and Old Rag Mountain (10 minutes) trailheads in the Shenandoah National Park as well as many vineyards and breweries. The Farm was originally named 2nd 4o by my parents. They planned to live the 2nd forty years of their lives together on the farm. My parents both grew up on the southside of Chicago - where having a tree in your yard meant that you had "made it". They decided to use the land to grow Christmas trees. This did not last long :) but the saplings my dad planted by hand are still here & maybe 70' tall! Then my husband & I bought The Farm in 2017 for the 2nd forty years of our life & my parents built their little house right here. My husband and I immediately knew that our dream was to grow a different kind of "tree", so in 2019 we were among the first group to receive our license to grow hemp. We are passionate about both the hemp and cannabis plants! In 2020 when it finally became legal to grow cannabis, we immediately added that to our garden as well and 2nd 40 to 420 was born, or shall I say planted. We currently rent out our 2 RV's 3 Yurts & primitive sites , we also offer group bookings & Canna-friendly B&B options. We plan to add septic & electric hook-ups for RV's in the near future. Weekend Trip to Twin Springs Tiny House

My partner & I loved our winter weekend here! Host was super accommodating. We’re super grateful for his help in getting our stuff to the cabin since our Civic wouldn’t have gotten that far into the property in the current snowy/ rainy conditions. The cabin itself is tucked away into a wooded area on his property, it’s like you enter another world once you pass over the little bridge. There’s a fire pit, generator, & outhouse. The cabin is very small but perfect for a couple or a little family. There’s pillows & blankets but we also brought a couple extra blankets, which I’m glad we did. The wood burning stove did a fairly good job of keeping us warm during a 20ish degree night except that it’s pretty small so be prepared with smaller pieces of wood or firelogs which burn slower. Host also provided a good amount of water, camp stove, random cookware, etc. Quite well stocked place. We didn’t get to meet the host but we did see his adorable dogs on our way out so that was awesome :) overall the vibes were wonderful

Weekend Trip to Arcadia Sanctuary

We had an absolutely incredible stay at this mountain yurt in Amherst, Virginia. We came in the winter months (because we’re a little crazy) and ended up getting stuck during a snowstorm — and somehow that made the whole experience even more unforgettable. The hosts were beyond amazing. They went out of their way to make sure we were safe, comfortable, and taken care of the entire time. True hospitality. 11/10. If you’re looking for peace, quiet, and a place to unplug and reset — this is it. Whether you want tranquility or you’re just trying to find yourself for a bit, this place delivers. Also, we have to give a special shoutout to Buddy the dog, who kept us company and made the whole stay even better. Such a good boy and the perfect mountain host assistant. And a big thank-you to the workers who helped us get out of the snow — we seriously appreciated the help more than you know. Awesome place, awesome people, awesome experience. We’d recommend this stay to absolutely everyone.

My partner and I had such an amazing 2 night trip. The bed was super comfy and the cabin was really unique with a modern flare, yet warm and cozy inside. I highly recommend using the hot tub at night. It was so amazing sitting in there and looking up at the stars. Our host, Trevor, was wonderful. The cabin was amazing! We loved the outdoor fire pit, wood stove and the loft space. It kept us plenty warm and cozy during the cold nights and mornings. The creek on the property was great to sit and read a book by or to splash around. It is probably pretty epic in the warmer months. It was super quiet and welcoming. The pit toilet was super clean and functional which was great. We really enjoyed our stay! Meeting Bill, the dog, was a real highlight for our kids!

We loved the grand view cabin! Such an incredible view and cozy cabin. We also visited the farm and our 3 year old loved running around seeing all the animals. We loved winding down with the sun and getting cozy and warm with the wood burning stove on our December weekend. Would 100% stay again and Dan was very responsive and I really appreciated the minimal contact unless we needed something. It really allowed the perfect unplugging.

This cabin was absolutely lovely. I cannot recommend it enough! The wood burning stove kept us cozy on chilly nights, and we got great sleep in the loft. The farm pup is adorable!! The kitchen was fabulous and had everything we needed. This was the perfect place to spend a birthday get-away. There were a few wasps and one did find its way into a sleeping bag, but that comes with being outdoors. The town nearby is lovely and the largest antique warehouse in the country is just down the road! Plus proximity to lots of hiking. We can’t wait to come back!

Had a great time!! It is a very special property and Jennifer was kind to show us the animals and tell us more about the history. The little cabin was comfortable and had all the basic cooking items we needed as well as plenty of water for dishes/handwashing! We enjoyed a complimentary wine tasting at a nearby winery that Jennifer gave us, but overall just hung out at the property and enjoyed the peace and quiet. Also, the outhouse is difficult to see if you arrive at night, but it is there, just a few feet off the trail by the solar lights :)
