This property was once a 300 acre plus tobacco farm. We are located within two miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian trail via a gated, public, forest road. Hikers should park at their campsite and walk up. The original log cabin was built in the 1850s and now serves as our dining room. The front portion of the house was completed in April of 1861 and the back in the early 1900s. We have plans to eventually turn it into a working farm which produces tinctures, salves and extracts of various native plants. Hi there. Here is a little rundown of everything we do at the mill…. So, as far as camping, there are two main options on either side of the river; the mill yard or primitive camping across the river. In the mill yard, we do festival style camping, meaning that there are no individual campsites per se, but rather a large grassy lawn near the mill and bathhouse with shared fire pits, picnic tables, charcoal grill, and sinks for water/dishes. We also have two platforms up in the woods that are good for a little more privacy and are completely shaded, but do require a small climb up the hill. The bathhouse has three restrooms and hot showers in each. Across the river, there are several more primitive sites that are generally very private and offer great sounds coming from the river and waterfall, but no facilities. Most sites are car accessible, and a 5 minute walk back over to the mill (or a 1 minute drive). Lastly, our newest camping spot on the primitive side is a river front beach right by the dam with space for a several medium sized tents and a private fire pit. The beach is hike-in only (2-3 minutes along a mostly flat trail). Our normal rate is $10 per person per night. Firewood is available for $10 per wheelbarrow load. We accept cash, credit card, Venmo, Paypal, and crypto. We are also fairly flexible on check in/check out times, but just let us know if you’ll be arriving at odd hours. Dogs are generally welcome as long as they are kept on leash. Here is a little rundown of tubing at the mill (May-October, weather permitting). We have two tubing options available. We have a short Fun Run that takes roughly 45 minutes, and cost $10 per person for as many rides as you’d like. The river bends sharply like a horseshoe in this section, so it makes everything accessible by foot traffic. It’s a 3 minute walk up the trail to the dam, put in and float 30-45 minutes (depending on water level), then a 5-10 minute walk back to the mill carrying your tube. There is also the longer Forks Run, which last 3-4 hours (~2.5 river miles), and costs $15. For this, we shuttle you up the river in a vehicle, and you float back to the top of the dam, then 3 minutes walking back to the mill. Most weekends, tubing starts at 11 am and the last Forks Shuttle is around 3 pm, with the Fun Run staying open till around 5. Also, with enough heads up, we can sometimes arrange for trips during the week. Our tubes are required for each person floating for insurance and liability reasons, but you are welcome to bring your own cooler tubes to carry drinks and snacks. Technically, alcohol is not permitted on the river, but what is in your cooler is your business. Either way, please bring ALL trash out with you! Water shoes are recommended, and we have life jackets on request. Most of our tubes come with bottoms and back rests, but a few are open to the water. Most weekends, reservations are not required, but it does help tremendously if we know when you want to come and how many in your group. Weekend Trip to WindSong in the treetops/hot tub

Myself, boyfriend and two pups had the pleasure of staying at the Wind Song yurt this past weekend and it was absolutely amazing. Couldn’t have asked for anything better! The place was stunning, stocked for all needs and a great getaway. Jodee was great at communicating with any questions with incredible timing. I highly recommend checking the place out for a mental check out for the views are spectacular. Thanks for a memorable trip!

I tent camped at the Wood camp and it was a nice spacious area. Everything was well kept, the bathrooms were clean. I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely book again. Matthew responded quickly in communication for the booking and other questions that I asked.

Weekend Trip to Ararat River Campground

The bathroom is super clean both for men and women. The site is quiet and the neighborhood is quite friendly. Two things to make the stay unforgettable. 1) the tent site should have water outlet for each station 2) the RV campers should clean their waste deposit on a regular basis. There was one of them that the place smells like piss. Sad to say that it was the only negative thing that almost ruined our stay. But still I would recommend the place for a nights stay. About 7 mins away to Pilot Mountain and 30 mins away from Hanging Rock State Park.

1 night at Round Peak Vineyards

Great place for a one night stop. We have a Flagstaff TT, 25 feet overall, and stayed at site 1. The site is beautiful and peaceful. We wish we got there earlier to enjoy all the amenities. Just know we were a bit large to fit over the narrow bridge and gate accessing the site. Doable, you just have to navigate off the gravel drive to make the turns. It is also hilly and we used 4WD. The site isn't level as it flows to creek but we managed to find a level spot that worked without having to level trailer or disconnect.

Wonderful RV site with gorgeous views! The spot was very easy to access, and we loved the gazebo, swing, and fire pit areas. Having access to a private, full hookup site like this is rare and quite the find! Many thanks to Rebecca and her boys for the firewood. The site is right off the Blue Ridge Parkway and near the quirky and fun town of Floyd. Lots of things to do within ~30-minute drive, including hiking, breweries, restaurants, wineries, bakeries, and shops.

Weekend Trip to Crooked Mountain

What a gem of a campground! If rustic charm is what you are looking for, this is the campground for you. Portapotties were clean, the showers were quaint with plentiful hot water and good water pressure. Thoughtful touches like little solar lamps on the picnic tables, a space for changing and motion sense lights to guide you to the showers made such a difference. We were tickled by the little wash stations next to the portapotties where you can wash your hands! Things like that show you that the owners really think and care about their visitors experience. On that topic, the owners are lovely. They helped us out with a generator when our power supply ran short! Please go and spend some time at this campground! You will not regret it!

The treehouse was gorgeous, and the land is clearly loved and well-tended. Christine and Ken were so very kind and responsive. Everything was clean and the kitchen was stocked with essentials. I wouldn't have changed a thing. Thank you for a great weekend.
