Starting December 1, or first night below freezing we will be closing down Bath House and only access will be at outhouses. Only sites near outhouses will be open and there will be no access to water. Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky. Each site has a sign as well When driving, please be respectful of the right of way. Drive slowly and respect the farm equipment. Also please do not venture onto the neighbor’s property other than entry and exit. About the property 20 minutes from Blacksburg and 35 minutes from Roanoke, our campground gives you great access to the “Triple Crown” of the Appalachian trail, consisting of McAfee Knob, Tinker Cliffs, and Dragon’s Tooth. Conquer these iconic peaks of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains for spectacular views of the surrounding wilderness. Additionally, explore Falls Ridge Nature preserve, Cascades waterfall, and Carvin’s Cove for hiking, kayaking and mountain biking.  Or just stay on the campground and enjoy the hiking and swimming we offer here.  Nearby in Blacksburg take advantage of the local breweries or Virginia Tech football home games. Hikers should park at their campsite and walk up. The original log cabin was built in the 1850s and now serves as our dining room. The front portion of the house was completed in April of 1861 and the back in the early 1900s. We have plans to eventually turn it into a working farm which produces tinctures, salves and extracts of various native plants. Located less than a mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway, this little hayfield is nestled just a skip away from Mabry Mill (the most photographed spot on the parkway), Villa Appalachia (quant Italian style winery), Chateau Morrisette (larger tourist winery), Nancy's Fudge (a little candy factory and shop), and hiking trails of varying lengths with epic views (Black Ridge Trail and Rock Castle Gorge Trail). Each of these is under 5 miles from our camp spot. Yet, if you are also hoping to hop out of your camper and WALK somewhere, there is a hike that leads you directly up to Chateau Morissette. The property itself is a hayfield that typically has a couple of cuttings each summer. There just happens to be a full hook up campsite located at the edge of the property that someone should be enjoying. The property owner (my dad, who is in his mid 70s and doesn't internet so well) lives in a log home that is across the field on the adjacent property. He is probably going to stop by to say hi. My girlfriend and I absolutely loved our stay at Creekside Woods. The location right by the creek was incredible! Literally some of the clearest, most majestic water I’ve ever seen. It made the whole campsite feel peaceful and almost magical. We were also just minutes away from multiple entry points to the Appalachian Trail and close to iconic hikes like Dragon’s Tooth and McAfee Knob, which made the trip even better (and made me realize how out of shape I was :D). The campsite itself felt surprisingly secluded, even with the leaves down, giving us plenty of privacy and quiet time to recharge. The hosts were super accommodating and responsive, making everything from check-in to checkout seamless. Overall, we had an amazing experience and will definitely be back. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a beautiful, relaxing nature getaway.

I wish we could’ve stayed longer! We were running behind schedule and arrived after dark, then had to leave before sunrise, so we didn’t get to take in the views. But the signs and string lights guiding us into the campground were such a welcoming sight after a long day on the road and pulling in so late. We’ll definitely be back to enjoy the campground properly!

Great campground! We had a beautiful view of Sharp Top from our site. It was lovely being able to hear the creek all night along with a couple owls in the early hours. The sites were spacious and felt pretty private although we seemed to have the place to ourselves. The bathouse was clean and nice. I never caught his name but this little kitty was an excellent host too. Would definitely stay again.

This was a great spot to set up for the weekend. Ample, flat space. The stand up bar was extremely useful and well thought out. The fire pit was a great size. We let the hosts know ahead of time that we were interested in purchasing firewood and they had it waiting for us, and they covered it from the weather. Port-a-potty close by and it was what you’d expect, well stocked with TP and hand sanitizer. The river view was awesome and there was so much wildlife to see, and we were lucky enough to spot an otter. Recommend! Worth noting: -the drive down to the site is steep and a mix of gravel and pavement and finishing in grass, there is lots of hipcamp signage but heads up -the train tracks are active and close

rivers edge trail was beautiful! the site was clean, easy to find and the views were gorgeous. hookups were straight forward and full service, which we appreciated. there is a bit of junk around and there’s a house very close, so not private, but it looks like they’re still building the sites so we didn’t mind. we will definitely stay again!
