Art classes and materials are available, for pottery [ beginner to advanced.] as well as sketching, fabric dyeing, plen air, or making mandalas. I do have leather tools, sewing machines, and stained glass. Bring your project or try a new one.
Lots of space in the common barn area for group lesson, or set up a spot and enjoy all by yourself!
Cabot has lots to offer for day trips, be it water sports, rail trail on bikes or walking, music, and cultural events, or purchasing fresh milk, beef, eggs, apples,
cheese, or homemade breads, all from Cabot. Contra Dance, music from Cabot Arts, or at the Den our local pub, are 2 miles away. The Bread and Puppet, Highland Center for the Arts, Barre Oprah house, art galleries, etc within an hour
drive in any direction.
A great place for children, I have swings and trees to climb, games, archaeological digs, scavenger hunts finding 10 different antique farm implements, and learning how they were used, to learning about mini microbe's and how to be friends with pollinators.

We moved to this land in 2007 with our two small children, and began developing a homestead. Over time, we built 2 greenhouses, a large equipment shed, planted and fenced an orchard, berry & perennial patch, & vegetable garden, made several flower gardens, set up systems for pasturing sheep and chickens, planted native shrubs and trees, and completely renovated the farmhouse. We practice organic regenerative agriculture and landscaping, with a deep commitment to strengthening and diversifying ecological systems. The Maple Hollow Shelter site is close to a dirt road, very accessible by car or van, yet it offers plenty of privacy. Its sits amid a working Sugarwoods and offers much shade in the summer. There are native ferns growing all around. We have some trails throughout the property, feel free to explore. The shelter is big enough to pitch a tent, hang a hammock, or just sleep under the stars. There is a big firepit and firewood provided. Please no cutting of trees. There is an outhouse on site, but no potable water. Not to mention the pond itself for boating enthusiasts. Currently, power and cell service are non existent on the property. Quiet camping generators are not discouraged so long as they are not in use during quiet hours. The SiloSide barn and homestead is better known around town as the "Old Somers Farm" in reference to the day when the barn housed 60 head of cows. The farm was a part of the Cabot Creamery Cooperative, and closed this era in the late 1980s. Prior to being a dairy farm consisting of over 500 acres, the property served as a tavern, inn, tannery, and has always been a traditional, well-loved farmhouse. Our farmhouse was built in 1785, and the barn built around the 1830s and expanded in 1941. The soil here is rich, and the forest full of wildlife. We've named our home "SiloSide" as tribute to the magic we feel on the non-road facing, silo-side of the barn, where you'll be camping.

This 150-acre property has been in our family for 32 years and now houses three generations.
Built in 1900 it was a traditional dairy farm until the 50's and 60's when potatoes were planted on the fields for the Boston and New York markets. By the 70's and 80's it became a gentleman's farm for a retired couple from New York City and the dairy farmers nearby hayed the fields. When we purchased the property in 1993 we continued offering the hay, built greenhouses, planted vegetable and flower gardens, ran a traditional Bed and Breakfast, now airbnb. We leased some of the fields to a local organic seed company for 13 years until they purchased their own property. The farm remains certified organic and is still being hayed by a local dairy farm, the gardens are community managed using regenerative and sustainable practices when ever possible. In the commercial garden, seed crops are being planted once again. Much of the cultivated agricultural land is protected under the Vermont Land Trust, to ensure that it remains used for agricultural purposes.
We love to share our farm and forest with others. In addition to our very intentional farming operations, you can find wild edibles tucked away on forest trails. Wildlife and wildflowers abound. Views and sunsets. Check out the 968 acre wildlife management area that abuts the property. Plenty of trails through the woods leading to Wolcott Pond and hidden beaver huts and dams.

Our little pond behind the big greenhouse has filled up a bit more this spring which you are welcome to use for dipping or frog watching.

Campers are expected to bring their own accommodations: Tent, Sleeping Bag, pad, cooking stove/ fuel, etc. For bikers and backpackers, the extensive back roads of Peacham, VT as well as the hiking of Devil's Hill and other parts of Groton State Forrest should provide ample space for discovery. Not to mention the pond itself for boating enthusiasts. Currently, power and cell service are non existent on the property. Quiet camping generators are not discouraged so long as they are not in use during quiet hours. Just remember that Cell service is SEVERELY limited and you're encouraged to download any media prior to arrival. If at any time you need our assistance the closest signal is the interstate. If you require a more tailored experience, we can make arrangements to meet you at your arrival to ensure a smooth transition to the campsite. Any other questions, Just ask!

The SiloSide barn and homestead is better known around town as the "Old Somers Farm" in reference to the day when the barn housed 60 head of cows. The farm was a part of the Cabot Creamery Cooperative, and closed this era in the late 1980s. Prior to being a dairy farm consisting of over 500 acres, the property served as a tavern, inn, tannery, and has always been a traditional, well-loved farmhouse. Our farmhouse was built in 1785, and the barn built around the 1830s and expanded in 1941. The soil here is rich, and the forest full of wildlife. We've named our home "SiloSide" as tribute to the magic we feel on the non-road facing, silo-side of the barn, where you'll be camping.

This 150-acre property has been in our family for 32 years and now houses three generations.
Built in 1900 it was a traditional dairy farm until the 50's and 60's when potatoes were planted on the fields for the Boston and New York markets. By the 70's and 80's it became a gentleman's farm for a retired couple from New York City and the dairy farmers nearby hayed the fields. When we purchased the property in 1993 we continued offering the hay, built greenhouses, planted vegetable and flower gardens, ran a traditional Bed and Breakfast, now airbnb. We leased some of the fields to a local organic seed company for 13 years until they purchased their own property. The farm remains certified organic and is still being hayed by a local dairy farm, the gardens are community managed using regenerative and sustainable practices when ever possible. In the commercial garden, seed crops are being planted once again. Much of the cultivated agricultural land is protected under the Vermont Land Trust, to ensure that it remains used for agricultural purposes.
We love to share our farm and forest with others. In addition to our very intentional farming operations, you can find wild edibles tucked away on forest trails. Wildlife and wildflowers abound. Views and sunsets. Check out the 968 acre wildlife management area that abuts the property. Plenty of trails through the woods leading to Wolcott Pond and hidden beaver huts and dams.

The wood stove was super easy to use! The fire started quickly, and warmed up the cabin very quickly! Perfect amount of space for three people to stay, although 4 folks would fit comfortably as well! We liked that the loft was carpeted. The burner and fridge were great to have. Special shout out to the bell on the outside of the cabin, it was a delightful addition to the aesthetic.

We stayed at Pine Cone Cabin in late January when it was -16 degrees out. The cabin kept us warm with the wood stove, and we enjoyed a quiet weekend away. The driveway was plowed when we arrived making it easy for us to park close to the cabin and there was wood available for purchase even though we had come prepared. This is our second time staying at the cabin. Our last visit was in summer. I think both seasons are equally enjoyable at this space as long as you are well prepared.

My stay at Pine Cone Cabin was exactly what I'd hoped for. The perfect balance of rustic simplicity and creature comforts. The wood stove kept the cabin warm all night even when the temps dipped to 0 degrees. Though there are a few houses nearby, the cabin feels and is incredibly private. I felt safe there as a woman alone, from out of town.
I don't love portapotties so I brought my own camping toilet to offset my need for it, and appreciated there being ample space in the bathroom to set it up. That said, the portapotty was clean and had no odor.
I loved exploring the nearby forests - some are closed during winter but Kettle Pond State Park's trail is open and well worth walking through... wintertime in Vermont is truly something :)
fyi, Mint mobile cell signal in the cabin and general area is spotty and mostly nonexistent, which I anticipated and was glad to have downloaded some music and a couple movies in advance.
A perfect stay - I'd love to return.

We are a family of four including two teenagers. We had a great time! It was just enough space to feel like we were having an adventure while having real quality time, huddled around the wood stove playing games.
We also found a nearby walk at Kettle Pond, which was the perfect happy, medium for the cold temperatures and beautiful surrounding landscapes.
