We have 2 showers, bathrooms, potable water, picnic tables, and wifi on site. There is also a covered seating area for guest use by our Inn. There are 5 campsites total. Please note, the Union Pacific Railroad is right across the street, with trains passing by multiple times a day and night. There will be noise at night. Campsites are relatively close together so you will likely see other campers during your stay. Also, there is not a lot of shade on the property so be prepared. Thompson Springs began as a railroad stop on the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad in the mid to late 1800's. It soon became a shipping point and community center for local farmers, cattle ranchers and sheepherders. It is now a ghost-town with a population of 50 people. The Desert Moon has a true wild western past. The old dancehall on the property, The Cactus Caberet, once served as the town bar and brothel. We are currently in the process renovating the dancehall into a venue for live music and retreats. There are 8-12 staff members living on site in their personal RV's at all times. We are a small community of artists, builders, and adventurers. We are constantly working to improve this property that came under our ownership in July of 2020. Feel free to come say hello and ask us about what we are building here! Thompson Springs is a true "ghost town" with no retail or restaurants except a 7-11 off the I-70 exit. The towns of Moab and Green River are only a half hour drive away and are full of regional and eclectic restaurants and shops. The Desert Moon is located just four miles from the Sego Canyon Rock Art in the Bookcliffs featuring pictograph and petroglyph panels from three different Native American cultures: Barrier, Fremont, and Ute. Be sure to check them out! There are miles of off-road trails accessible from our property. Some require a 4x4 vehicle or dirtbike, but many are well maintained enough for almost any vehicle.

Centrally located to the best Canyonlands has to offer, our camp is located on 25 acres less than half a mile from Looking Glass Arch, a popular rock climbing destination which got its name from the conquistadors who would climb to the top and look through a “looking glass” for landmarks that would lead them back to Santa Fe.  Moab is 25 miles to our North, about a 30 minute drive. The nearest convenience store/gas station is in the tiny town of La Sal, 12 miles NE of us. Although the Lasal Jct. now has burger truck, showers, ice and snacks. The nearby La Sal mountains rise to over 12,000 in elevation and is a great place to get out of the heat and enjoy lakes surrounded by beautiful pine and aspen forests. As the name suggests, Where The Wild Things Camp truly is wild and not for everyone. We are off grid, meaning there is NO electricity, no drinking water, and only "spotty" cell phone service is best just anywhere before bathrooms. Make sure to check the weather forecast before coming out and be prepared for anything as the weather here in the desert can be unpredictable and ALWAYS stake down your tents! Porta-Potty's available. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PRACTICE PACK-IT-IN AND PACK-IT-OUT. Trash service not available. NON-AGGRESSIVE dogs are always welcome, however please keep in mind that a lot of our wild friends also live here, such as coyotes, rattlesnakes, deer and antelope. Picturesque camping in the protected hilltops of beautiful Lydia’s Canyon. This camping destination is located on private land and offers a long list of unique and attractive features. Conveniently located just a couple of minutes off Highway 89, it’s the perfect stopover between Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks. Special features, including private fishing ponds, a large pavilion equipped with tables and chairs, fire pits, kayaks, and Wi-Fi, make your stay easy and enjoyable. Campers can also enjoy clean, hot showers and flushing toilets. You will have access to the multi-acre campground, where you can choose your preferred tent or RV site. We DO allow camping vans without hookups in our tent sites. Two of our four new RV sites have full hookups (Sites 3 & 4), while the other two (Sites 1 & 2) have water and electrical hookups only. All RV sites are equipped with 30- and 50-amp service. You will also have access to the large pavilion for gathering, cooking, or shelter from the elements. The clean bathhouse features two shower rooms with on-demand hot water and flushing toilets. As an added bonus, guests have access to the ponds and may use the boat, canoe, or kayaks. Catch-and-release fishing is also permitted if you bring your own fishing equipment. Keeping a fish, including one that is accidentally killed, requires an additional fee. If you are interested in booking a fishing experience, please reach out to us for more details. There are seven available tent sites and four RV sites with hookups. No beds or tents are provided, so please bring your own camping supplies. Common areas, including the pavilion and bathhouse, are shared with all campground guests. Lydia’s Canyon is known for its lush green fields, overflowing freshwater ponds filled with native fish, Canada geese, turkeys, excellent birdwatching, deer, farmland, cows, horses, and, last but not least, kind and welcoming residents who are happy to help make your stay memorable. Wi-Fi is currently unavailable but is expected to be available before September. Please follow the posted speed limit in Lydia’s Canyon. We ask that you do not exceed 15 mph on the gravel roads. No parties, excessive noise, or bright lights are permitted after 10 p.m.

This Outpost and campground is located on 300 acres of private property surrounded by park and public land. It has been here for over 30 years in some form or another. We are Caleb & Amber who enjoyed managing this little oasis in the middle of the desert from March to June of 2017 when we decided to purchase the business & make it our own. This is a dry, rugged campground with a bathhouse that provides coin operated showers and flush toilets. In addition there is little old rustic camp store placed in the middle of nowhere where we provide fuel, snacks, firewood, ice, showers, cold drinks & more. If you are looking for a more private site with lots of space and shade, book our Small Group at the Rocks. For a warmer stay during the cooler months book one of our Glamping Tents listed. We have the larger, and spacious tent in the grove of the Juniper Trees (which is also amazing in the warmer season) and rent a heater from us inside the general/camp store. Please check with us on fire restrictions, hipcamp is often wrong on their assumptions, we rarely have fire restrictions. BE SURE TO GIVE YOURSELF PLENTY OF TIME TO CHECK IN NO LATER THAN 5PM. We have added 4 wooden porta potty enclosed in small tents which we service every day or as needed. Site selection is determined by type of sleeping accommodations and managements discretion. We have now have one tent areas and 1 RV spot. **We allow 2 adults per site and/or 2 adults and minor children per site. (Larger Family Gathering must be approved and pay extra based on the number of family or friends expected) WE HAVE A LIMITED FIRE BAN. ALL FIREWORKS ARE CURRENTLY STRICTLY PROHIBITED We are not a public campground and only list through Hipcamp and so our property is posted with NO TRESPASSING SIGNS. It is very important to let us know your approximate arrival time and call when you arrive. We will guide you down to the campgrounds and show you the best spots base on your type of camping. (Sleeping in trailers or van's versus tent campers) One draw back to our property is that we are within 1/2 mile of a well use highway (US 84) and railroad track. We have only had one camper who was concerned about the noise. Here at the house we don't notice it and maybe we are just use to it. Limited swimming and use of paddle board based on river conditions. Fishing is limited because we are on private property and the river is not stocked by the Utah fish and game. So, we are dependent on normal reproduction of the fish. Fly fishing being the best however you can use lures. Power bait or any bait that requires treble hooks are not allowed.. We would prefer catch and release. ALL UTAH FISHING REGULATION APPLY. WE HAVE INDICATED WHEEL CHAIR ACCESSIBLE. THE WHOLE AREA IS BASICLLY LEVEL AND GRASS AND BARK COVERED.

We made a last minute decision to stay here and they were very accommodating. Lovely RV resort, although we didn’t use the amenities due to spending our time at Zion, they all looked first class. We did use the showers and dog park, both in perfect shape, very clean. This park is the perfect location for visiting Zion, and we also went to Snow Canyon for hiking with our dogs while there.

This was a great stop for us. We have a 41' 5th wheel which the area was a little tight for us but it worked. It was well kept and quiet. Small dog pen that was nice to let them have some freedom. Very close to downtown and things to do.

We had a great stay. Very close to services in Kanab. Loved the cafe on site. Great for morning coffee and breakfast items. Also, we stayed when the cafe hosted an open mic night. There was a potluck meal (bring a dish if you like) that evening and super talented locals singing, playing music or reciting poetry. Dog friendly. Great vibe.

We enjoyed our two-night stay in Moab! The location is fantastic, with easy access to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, as well as downtown Moab and its great restaurants. We appreciated having access to the hotel amenities, especially the clean, private bathroom and shower with towels provided. The electrical hookups for our RV were also very convenient. One thing worth mentioning is that the RV parking is on the hotel's paved parking lot facing the street, rather than a private campsite. There isn't an individual picnic table or fire pit, but guests can enjoy the shared patio and community fire pit. Overall, it was a comfortable and convenient place to stay while exploring the beautiful Moab area. A great option if you're looking for easy access to the national parks and hotel amenities rather than a traditional camping experience!

4 nights at The Needles Outpost Campground

As described, this was desert camping. Beautiful, dramatic views of mesas and rock formations. Our campsite backed against an intriguing red rock wall that glowed in the evening and radiated warmth until after dark. Sites were far enough apart to lend a sense of privacy. We noticed that visitors really respected the campground “rules” around quiet hours and limited use of lights at night, respecting the dark sky policy. Amber and Caleb were extremely friendly and gave us lots of ideas for day trips. Canyonlands, Needles District, was much quieter than the more popular Bryce and Zion where it was hard to get away from the crowds at this time of year. We shall return to Needles Outpost!

Sleeping in a hotel parking lot. You're kind of sandwiched together (spaces are normal sized) and you have a fair amount of highway noise. Would like to have better lighting and a security camera because it was pitch dark and I didn't feel super safe when in my van alone. Amenities were very nice and clean. We enjoyed the pool, showers, and fire pit. Would stay here again.

I stayed at Color Canyon while visiting Zion NP. The sites are nicely spaced and very level. The location in Hurricane is close to anything you might need. The drive to Zion NP from Hurricane is very beautiful. Abby the on site manager was very friendly and helpful. She keeps everything well maintained. Fellow campers were quiet. Beautiful views of the sky and the mountains across the road. Bonrue Bakery in Hurricane is AMAZING!

Convenient to town and Bryce Canyon NP. Camp Host was very attentive. Spot was gravel and no leveling issues. Had nice grassy spot for our pups. Some road noise but were able to muffle that out with a small fan. Park was as advertised but would loved to have had sewer hookup at spot. Dump station was provided though.
