Nesting Star Camp is situated within the legendary Terlingua Ranch and is strategically located to provide easy access to the stunning offerings of Big Bend National Park, Big Bend Ranch State Park and the surrounding backcountry. The West entrance to Big Bend National Park is 23 miles from the camp. Big Bend Ranch State Park's East entrance is 38 miles from camp. The camp sits on 5 acres and is located 0.7 miles from Terlingua Ranch Road, which is a paved asphalt road leading to Hwy 118. The final 0.7 miles to the property consist of dirt and gravel roads maintained by the Property Owners Association of Terlingua Ranch (POATRI). These dirt and gravel roads leading to the camp are generally easily traversed, though they can become silty or muddy if it rains. In some areas, heavy rain may cause road flooding. We recommend driving an SUV or a truck, as low-profile cars may struggle depending on the road conditions that day. Please be aware that the roads within Terlingua Ranch, while publicly accessible, are located on private land. We kindly request that you not drive off of any roads, as the surrounding areas are all privately owned. While navigating the deeper parts of Terlingua Ranch can be challenging, reaching the camp is usually straightforward. We've driven in with a 3500 dually with a 20’ gooseneck horse trailer, and we’ve never encountered any issues. It’s easily accessible yet remote enough to showcase its pristine natural beauty. The surroundings are incredibly tranquil and serene. At night, under Nesting Star Camp's skies, the stars unveil a majestic tapestry that will leave you in awe. The night also awakens with the coyote calls, the gentle desert winds, and the possible flutter of a bat or owl hoot. We also have wild donkeys that roam the area, and you might hear them braying. Please avoid approaching them, though. We provide a composting toilet for your use. Please note that when we are not present to manage waste (#2), you will be responsible for removing the toilet liner bag and disposing of your waste in the provided trash cans. There is also a shower room, and we will supply solar shower bags for your use. If you’re not familiar with them, please research solar showers before booking. Essentially, they are bags you will be responsible for filling with water and placing in the sun to heat up. On a sunny day, you can achieve a temperature of around 115 degrees, although on cloudy days, it won’t heat beyond the ambient temperature. The camp features two uncovered decks for stargazing and one deck with a roof that is partially open on the sides, providing more shelter from the elements. Please be aware that this is an off-grid camp, meaning there is no running water or power on-site. You are required to bring your own water. Additionally, we request that you limit generator use to basic needs only and keep it off between 7 PM and 8 AM. Cell phone coverage on the property can be inconsistent, but on most days, you can expect to get 2-3 bars of 3G signal on Verizon and Google Fi. We personally use a cell phone booster and recommend one if you don't have one, on most days it can provide a 4-bar 3G service. Sometimes, you may need to find an elevated spot to obtain a strong signal. However, it’s important to note that reception can be unreliable, and we recommend you plan ahead. Starlink works very well here.

A remote, off-grid adobe dome, powered by solar power, and near Big Bend National Park, as seen on HGTV, and numerous other publications. Brand new to Hipcamp, but we've been fortunate to host over a thousand guests on other platforms. The Off Grid Dome shelter is accepting rental guests to share the off-grid experience, and to also help fund this project and future projects . The dome is a very remote and unique space in the desert near Big Bend National Park. The dome rests in an isolated but easily accessible off-grid setting in one of the few remaining territories under a dark sky ordinance, which offers unmatched views of the night sky, and a completely unobstructed view of a horizon that delivers truly majestic sunrises and sunsets. Though the dome is isolated, the entrance to Big Bend National Park is just a 25 minute drive and the historic Terlingua Ghost town about the same. The dome is an earthen structure, with a cob (adobe) barrier to provide shelter from the desert elements such as heat, cold, winds, and rain. The small but functional dome kitchen provides a two burner propane stove and oven, as well as a refrigerator that is powered by solar power. In fact, all power to the dome comes directly from a modest solar energy system and will power phones, laptops, and lights, but not much more (no hair dryers for instance). The kitchen sink pumps water from a small rain collection cistern and thus I ask guests to be very strategic with water use. Guests are recommended to bring one's own drinking water, although backup bottled water is provided onsite as a backup at cost. The Dome bed sleeps two comfortably. Linens, pillows, and a blanket (and a duvet in colder months are provided for the main bed. The pallet couch does sleep a third person quite comfortably, but guests must bring their own linens or sleeping bag (and pillow) for a third guest. In hotter months, a fan is provided, and the nature of the thick adobe provides a buffer against the Summer temps (with limitations). The wrap around windows provides a good cross breeze and fresh air when needed. In cooler months, a small propane heater is provided for a little extra boost, as well as clean linens and a duvet cover. The dome and linens will not be cleaned during your stay. There is no flush toilet, and so you must be comfortable using a composting toilet that is in a separate, and private outhouse next to the dome. There is no shower on site, but I can give you recommendations for $2 coin showers in town. Or you can try an outdoor solar bag shower on the property. There is wifi on site. The property is very accessible by road, with only the last mile being on a gravel road in good condition. Read house rules to learn about amenities. SUMMERTIME DISCLAIMER (June through September): The Summer can get hot here in the desert and while the adobe dome gives a good buffer against the outside elements, there is no AC in the dome, just a fan. There are also perimeter windows to entice a night breeze. Also, bugs and other desert creatures tend to culminate in the Summer months. Don’t be surprised if you encounter a scorpion or black widow spider and don’t be frightened either as they are relatively harmless and non-threatening. I do have the dome on a somewhat forgiving 5 night out cancelation policy during off-peak periods and so if the 10 day forecast looks too scary for you, you can cancel without penalty. Many say that Summer is their favorite time of the year out here. But it all depends on one's heat tolerance. This is a primitive campground perfect for self-contained Overlander, van-life, or pop-up style campers, with dumpster access. Located in a most convenient place with easy access to Big Bend and Terlingua. Located right on Hwy 118 on Terlingua Ranch, the property offers awesome views, bright stars, and quiet evenings with outstanding sunsets and moonrises. A convenience store and a spot to grab food and a beer are located very close to the site. A dumpster is available onsite. What makes this a great spot is the location—Big Bend is an enormous area, and travel times can be significant, but from our site you won’t have to drive far to settle in for the night and get going the next day on your Big Bend exploration. The park entrance is about 25 minutes away. The sites are simple desert terrain with natural desert scrub—no paved pads. Native burros frequently browse the property, so expect to see wild donkeys. All sites are located behind an access gate and are individually marked.

Nestled within the rugged and mesmerizing landscape of Terlingua, our off-grid desert camp offers an unparalleled escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life. This camp is a sanctuary for those seeking solitude and a connection with the raw beauty of the desert. Nesting Star Camp is situated within the legendary Terlingua Ranch and is strategically located to provide easy access to the stunning offerings of Big Bend National Park, Big Bend Ranch State Park and the surrounding backcountry. The West entrance to Big Bend National Park is 23 miles from the camp. Big Bend Ranch State Park's East entrance is 38 miles from camp. The camp sits on 5 acres and is located 0.7 miles from Terlingua Ranch Road, which is a paved asphalt road leading to Hwy 118. The final 0.7 miles to the property consist of dirt and gravel roads maintained by the Property Owners Association of Terlingua Ranch (POATRI). These dirt and gravel roads leading to the camp are generally easily traversed, though they can become silty or muddy if it rains. In some areas, heavy rain may cause road flooding. We recommend driving an SUV or a truck, as low-profile cars may struggle depending on the road conditions that day. Please be aware that the roads within Terlingua Ranch, while publicly accessible, are located on private land. We kindly request that you not drive off of any roads, as the surrounding areas are all privately owned. While navigating the deeper parts of Terlingua Ranch can be challenging, reaching the camp is usually straightforward. We've driven in with a 3500 dually with a 20’ gooseneck horse trailer, and we’ve never encountered any issues. It’s easily accessible yet remote enough to showcase its pristine natural beauty. The surroundings are incredibly tranquil and serene. At night, under Nesting Star Camp's skies, the stars unveil a majestic tapestry that will leave you in awe. The night also awakens with the coyote calls, the gentle desert winds, and the possible flutter of a bat or owl hoot. We also have wild donkeys that roam the area, and you might hear them braying. Please avoid approaching them, though. We provide a composting toilet for your use. Please note that when we are not present to manage waste (#2), you will be responsible for removing the toilet liner bag and disposing of your waste in the provided trash cans. There is also a shower room, and we will supply solar shower bags for your use. If you’re not familiar with them, please research solar showers before booking. Essentially, they are bags you will be responsible for filling with water and placing in the sun to heat up. On a sunny day, you can achieve a temperature of around 115 degrees, although on cloudy days, it won’t heat beyond the ambient temperature. The camp features two uncovered decks for stargazing and one deck with a roof that is partially open on the sides, providing more shelter from the elements. Please be aware that this is an off-grid camp, meaning there is no running water or power on-site. You are required to bring your own water. Additionally, we request that you limit generator use to basic needs only and keep it off between 7 PM and 8 AM. Cell phone coverage on the property can be inconsistent, but on most days, you can expect to get 2-3 bars of 3G signal on Verizon and Google Fi. We personally use a cell phone booster and recommend one if you don't have one, on most days it can provide a 4-bar 3G service. Sometimes, you may need to find an elevated spot to obtain a strong signal. However, it’s important to note that reception can be unreliable, and we recommend you plan ahead. Starlink works very well here.

A remote, off-grid adobe dome, powered by solar power, and near Big Bend National Park, as seen on HGTV, and numerous other publications. Brand new to Hipcamp, but we've been fortunate to host over a thousand guests on other platforms. The Off Grid Dome shelter is accepting rental guests to share the off-grid experience, and to also help fund this project and future projects . The dome is a very remote and unique space in the desert near Big Bend National Park. The dome rests in an isolated but easily accessible off-grid setting in one of the few remaining territories under a dark sky ordinance, which offers unmatched views of the night sky, and a completely unobstructed view of a horizon that delivers truly majestic sunrises and sunsets. Though the dome is isolated, the entrance to Big Bend National Park is just a 25 minute drive and the historic Terlingua Ghost town about the same. The dome is an earthen structure, with a cob (adobe) barrier to provide shelter from the desert elements such as heat, cold, winds, and rain. The small but functional dome kitchen provides a two burner propane stove and oven, as well as a refrigerator that is powered by solar power. In fact, all power to the dome comes directly from a modest solar energy system and will power phones, laptops, and lights, but not much more (no hair dryers for instance). The kitchen sink pumps water from a small rain collection cistern and thus I ask guests to be very strategic with water use. Guests are recommended to bring one's own drinking water, although backup bottled water is provided onsite as a backup at cost. The Dome bed sleeps two comfortably. Linens, pillows, and a blanket (and a duvet in colder months are provided for the main bed. The pallet couch does sleep a third person quite comfortably, but guests must bring their own linens or sleeping bag (and pillow) for a third guest. In hotter months, a fan is provided, and the nature of the thick adobe provides a buffer against the Summer temps (with limitations). The wrap around windows provides a good cross breeze and fresh air when needed. In cooler months, a small propane heater is provided for a little extra boost, as well as clean linens and a duvet cover. The dome and linens will not be cleaned during your stay. There is no flush toilet, and so you must be comfortable using a composting toilet that is in a separate, and private outhouse next to the dome. There is no shower on site, but I can give you recommendations for $2 coin showers in town. Or you can try an outdoor solar bag shower on the property. There is wifi on site. The property is very accessible by road, with only the last mile being on a gravel road in good condition. Read house rules to learn about amenities. SUMMERTIME DISCLAIMER (June through September): The Summer can get hot here in the desert and while the adobe dome gives a good buffer against the outside elements, there is no AC in the dome, just a fan. There are also perimeter windows to entice a night breeze. Also, bugs and other desert creatures tend to culminate in the Summer months. Don’t be surprised if you encounter a scorpion or black widow spider and don’t be frightened either as they are relatively harmless and non-threatening. I do have the dome on a somewhat forgiving 5 night out cancelation policy during off-peak periods and so if the 10 day forecast looks too scary for you, you can cancel without penalty. Many say that Summer is their favorite time of the year out here. But it all depends on one's heat tolerance. This is a primitive campground perfect for self-contained Overlander, van-life, or pop-up style campers, with dumpster access. Located in a most convenient place with easy access to Big Bend and Terlingua. Located right on Hwy 118 on Terlingua Ranch, the property offers awesome views, bright stars, and quiet evenings with outstanding sunsets and moonrises. A convenience store and a spot to grab food and a beer are located very close to the site. A dumpster is available onsite. What makes this a great spot is the location—Big Bend is an enormous area, and travel times can be significant, but from our site you won’t have to drive far to settle in for the night and get going the next day on your Big Bend exploration. The park entrance is about 25 minutes away. The sites are simple desert terrain with natural desert scrub—no paved pads. Native burros frequently browse the property, so expect to see wild donkeys. All sites are located behind an access gate and are individually marked.

3 nights at Nesting Star Camp

Jose was very generous to let us have the camp to ourselves. We found a great flat spot for our tent (6 person size) and enjoyed having a campfire each night. Jose’s was one of the few places that we found that could have fires, so that was a plus. There were gorgeous sunsets each night, and the half moon was bright enough to navigate in the dark and see your shadow. Just follow his instructions and you’ll be fine and be mindful of your own trash. We had no issues keeping our food and trash in the car at night with any wildlife. The only “encounter” we had was with a little Chihuahuan Pocket Mouse that wanted to join us and curl up by the fire. We really had a great time and would gladly stay there again :)

It was serene and far enough away from other people to really get to enjoy the solitude. My 2 pups and I spent 4 nights there to connect to nature and decompress from a stressful time in life. It was perfect for that! The dogs learned to quickly look before they step and the thorns in their feet were a minimum. I was surprised at the amount of traffic on Reimers Rd., and there was one neighbor kinda close in my opinion. Overall I had a wonderful time and was able to disconnect from technology! So amazing! I felt 100% safe.

Weekend Trip to Cholla Ranch Camp, Glamping Tents

This was hands down one of the best experiences of my life. Emma’s ranch was stunning. The tent was cute, cozy, and so tastefully decorated. There wasn’t any detail missed. Emma was so kind and so responsive to any question I had. She is a great host and truly thinks of everything! (Hot coco with marshmallow, the yummiest snacks, space heaters for cooler nights, bath robes and slippers, bandaids, floss, shampoo, face wash, soaps, sleeping masks, a record player, a heated foot massager, essential oils for aromatherapy and so much more!) As I write this sitting in DFW traffic on our drive back home.. it already has me itching to come back. It was such a breath of fresh air that my husband and I so desperately needed. Now on to the best part.. the stargazing! We got to see the Milky Way, Jupiter, Saturn, and so many more stars than we would ever see in the city. It was incredible. Just jaw dropping. I can’t wait to come back and I’ll be sure to tell everyone I know about this place. Thank you for everything, Emma!

On our very last night I was standing on the porch of the tent when I encountered some of those “marfa lights”. I was absolutely stunned. This beautiful piece of land is truly special. Lots of space, workers always friendly RV sites Have water and electricity and it’s perfect! We moved from the front area site 11 to back area site 15 for more privacy away from traffic and site 15 is next to shade area/ picnic table that we were able to enjoy. They did have traffic from workers going to the stalls behind us but less than store customers traffic which was better. Highly recommend this area. No cell service here but they do have wifi access for guests if needed. We use our Starlink so can’t rate reception of the WiFi.

Weekend Trip to Domeland

I booked this stay to get away from day-to-day life and reconnect with nature, and it was everything I hoped for and more. The location is breathtaking — remote enough to feel alone under the endless Texas sky, yet close to both Big Bend National and State Parks. The dome is stunning and thoughtfully designed, and the property itself is beautiful. You can see the desert stretch out for miles, and even though there are a few neighbors, it still feels private and peaceful. Inside everything was clean and cozy, and I quickly became obsessed with the one-mile loop trail on the property, walking it multiple times because it was truly that lovely. The sunsets and sunrises were out of this world, not to mention the view of the stars. I cooked on the camp stove (there’s also a charcoal grill so bring charcoal if you’d like to use it) and loved the calm of being offline. The host was very communicative, and the instructions were clear. Just keep in mind it’s the desert: water is precious, so bring extra and use mindfully. The kitchen has the basics, but bringing your favorite gear is helpful. There’s WiFi inside the Dome but no cell service, so recommend downloading local maps before you go. If you want extra light it doesn’t hurt to bring some nice battery powered lights. It wasn’t an issue but would’ve been a nice touch. If you’re looking for peace, inspiration, and beauty that reminds you how vast the world is, this place is pure magic. ✨

Weekend Trip to Big Bend Overland Adventure Camping

I thoroughly enjoyed camping on Chris’s land. The off-road drive there was incredible, and once I got to the Panorama site, I could understand how it got its name. Will definitely be coming back! Stars were beautiful, didn’t come across any dangerous wildlife, and my truck made it just fine without putting it in 4x4. The onX directions Chris sent to me led me there perfectly, never a question on where I was, but there is absolutely no cell service, so download the map to be able to view offline/via satellite. Very rocky region so don’t expect to be able to stake your tent down, but plenty of big rocks to tie off to. Thanks Chris!

Such a charming place! Beautiful setting, great decor, felt safe and private. Our only issue was the amount of sticker burrs everywhere. They were sharp and big enough to puncture our tent and even go through some shoes. The site is also near some very noisy train tracks.
