Get into low gear and enjoy the slow pace and peace of our little working farm on the edge of the hill country. Low Gear Farmstead's 75 acres border the lovely San Saba River, providing campers the opportunity to swim, wade, fish and paddle. Farm animals including dairy goats, chickens, and horses inhabit the property, but wildlife such as deer, wild turkey, ringtail, fox and armadillo is also abundant. Bird watchers will be delighted at the diversity of birds, especially in spring. Don't forget to look up at night as our dark skies provide excellent stargazing on clear nights and a very visible Milky Way. We limit the number of campsites and spread them out so that campers may enjoy privacy and seclusion. Campsites are provided with compost toilets and most sites also have a fire ring. 4WD is not required unless we have had heavy rains, otherwise most vehicles, except very low clearance ones, do fine. The nearest town, Menard, is about a 12 minute drive from the property and has a grocery store, gas stations, a couple restaurants, a pub and a bakery. Lovers of history might enjoy visiting the Presidio de San Saba, about 20 minutes from the farm, as well as the historic Pioneers Rest Cemetery in town. Boulderdash is quite amazing! We usually camp in tent campsites because we have a tiny camper, and we don't like to be among huge RVs. Boulderdash is a quite small campground but the design is great and RVs do not face each other and are not lined up, so everybody has privacy. We stayed for the first two nights in the RV site 3, and for the last night we moved to tent site 1 by the river. The tent campsites are the best for who likes nature. While they don't have water or power at the campsite itself, they have a great outdoor washing area with potable water, electricity and a picnic table. There's a port-a-potty besides the bathrooms on the hilltop. Our campsite had a fire ring, a grill, a great picnic table, and you're steps from the river. Water was pretty low but it was running because there are some springs that feed into it. Everything at Boulderdash is well thought out, the bathrooms are super clean and cute, shower is FANTASTIC! Every picnic table has a flower arrangement and a jar of corn to feed the deer, and a small shop. Wi-fi made camping bearable to our teenage daughter. Also fantastic are the hosts: Carole-Anne is super friendly, and received us with a pumpkin bread that she baked to all campers who were there on thanksgiving. That really set the tone right. She was super accommodating to our requests, and is just an overall nice person. Their dogs and cats are super sweet, as are the deer that come every day to get sone corn. We had a wonderful time!

Weekend Trip to J-D Ranch Texas

The location was perfect—remote enough to feel like a true escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, yet conveniently close to town if we wanted to venture out for supplies or a meal. The campsite itself was well-maintained, with ample space for our tents and a fire pit that made for cozy evenings under the stars. I appreciated the balance of seclusion and accessibility, which made it easy to enjoy both the wilderness and the comforts of civilization. Overall, I highly recommend this camping spot for anyone looking to escape and unwind.

We stayed at campsite 1 and felt secluded and loved the clean tent pad sites. We also added firewood to our reservation and it was piled up nicely at campsite upon arrival. Great host.

Very impressed with this campground. Went on the guided bird walk and learned so much about bird calls, how and where to spot them, and some interesting facts. The hosts are kind beyond words, highly communicative, and knowledgeable of their landscape. Their pup will come by to say hello and sometimes sleep by your campsite! If you want to stay up late to stargaze, listen to the river run, and have a great time then this is the hipcamp for you.

Tent camped with my scout troop at Home Away. The scouts loved playing with the goats and donkeys. The owners could not have been nicer people and made sure that we had an amazing experience.

4 nights at Seco Ridge Campgrounds

We enjoyed our stay at Seco Ridge! The #1 secluded spot worked out well and was pretty private and quiet. We don't need all the common amenities provided but for those who do, its a nice option. There were a few times communication with the host was delayed, and while WiFi was available, the password was not posted. Otherwise, a great spot! Would definitely stay again!

Weekend Trip to Boulderdash Cabin & Camping

This is a nice small family run camp ground. Carol and Lyn were fantastic and proactively communicated with us. The site was beautiful and peace full. We'll definitely be back again.
