Mallard Haven Retreat is located off US 287, halfway between Palestine on the north and Crockett on the south.   The retreat and associated activities are part of our overall program, which is to provide a refuge away from the frantic pace of daily life. We are somewhat sequestered from the outside world so as to provide immersion in the sights and sounds of nature. The setting is designed to be a place for relaxation and restoration of the soul and body through reading, journaling, quiet reflection, or simple camp activities such as hiking. Campers and visitors are expected to respect the land and natural features of the property as a gift from our Creator to be used and appreciated. We treat the property carefully and honorably, in acknowledgment we are the 'stewards' of the land.

A great off-grid stay with septic, well water, and solar or generated power. We are pet friendly - please contact us to ensure your pets meet our (minimal) requirements. Our property is meant to be calming, fun and relaxing. Camping with class is what we like to say. We are constantly upgrading our areas and property to be safe and entertaining. Our pond is charming and the focal point of the camping adventure. We have a paddle boat and an electric john boat to toodle around in. Want to go fishing? The pond is stocked with bass, catfish, crappie, bluegill and perch. There is also a small island we call “Angel Island” that you can fish from or just sit on the deck with your favorite beverage and enjoy the view. There is a riding/walking trail that is approximately 0.7 miles in distance and basically encompasses the perimeter of the back area. Walking is common, bikes are welcome and small 4 wheelers are also welcome. No side by sides please. You won’t be over crowded here as we currently only have 7 total camping sites. However, we do have enough property to accommodate large parties, reunions or any other type of get-togethers. Come see us and enjoy time away from the fast paced city! You might hear the sounds of the coyotes yipping in the night or perhaps one of the great horned owls calling out from a big oak tree. You may also see some deer, rabbits, squirrels and even armadillos. We are rustic but classy. Time to get away and relax! I can be reached at 850-503-1290 for questions. ** Special note - We have a very nice fireworks show on the property above the pond on the 4th of July weekend that all campers are invited to enjoy.

Fire pits are available in two different areas of the property, and campfires are permitted within these designated spaces. The land is divided through the middle, which allows convenient access for parking. Bikes and ATVs are welcome, but for your safety, please do not enter or attempt to use any areas that seem unsafe. Guests are welcome to collect firewood from fallen branches or trees already on the ground. However, please do not cut, damage, or remove any standing trees. As this is a primitive camping site, there is no electricity or running water available. Please bring your own drinking water and water for personal use. Our compost bathrooms contain a small amount of water for basic showering; however, if the water runs out, guests will need to provide their own. These bathrooms are enclosed on three sides and are located a short distance from the campsites, providing a reasonable level of privacy. There is a pond located toward the back of the property. Swimming is not permitted. Fishing is allowed, but it is strictly catch-and-release. You may drive closer to the pond only when the ground is dry. Please do not attempt to drive there after rain, as the soil becomes very soft and vehicles may become stuck. Trash bins are not provided, so please pack out all trash and belongings when you leave. As this is a large property, we are still working to remove items left behind by previous owners. We do have neighbors nearby, so please be respectful and mindful of noise levels. The property is only partially fenced, and animals may occasionally pass through the area looking for food or shelter. Please remain aware of your surroundings during your stay. A train passes nearby from time to time, so guests who are light sleepers may want to plan ahead. If you plan to bring pets and allow them off leash, please note that we are not responsible for any injuries or incidents. One of our neighbors in particular has a breeding issue and his dogs tend to bark especially at night. Because this is an unrestricted property area, there is limited control over neighboring animals (we have tried to resolve this issue with no results) If you are a light sleeper, we recommend bringing earplugs or headphones to minimize any noise disturbance during your stay. Thank you

Baker's Cabin is a rare property - a remote cabin on 6 acres, shared with no one but the night sky. Baker's Cabin is in the country. Located about 25 minutes from Centerville, it makes for an easy weekend getaway from the Houston or Dallas areas. As you drive from interstate, to highway, to county road to dirt road and over a single lane wooden bridge, you feel yourself start to unwind and relax. This cabin is located on a private dirt road (too much rain can make things muddy). You'll be given gate access for entrance. As you drive down the dirt road, you'll find our light blue cabin on stilts. Because the cabin is raised, you have a great entertainment space sheltered from the weather. You can hang out, swing and play games all downstairs. We also have a firepit for cooler evenings. PLEASE NOTE: WE NO LONGER ACCEPT PETS FOR THIS PROPERTY. THE PROPERTY IS TOO SMALL TO SUPPORT PETS. Baker's Cabin is far from any city lights which makes for very dark nights and optimal star gazing. You are close to... 4J Hog Hunting Fort Boggy State Park Centerville, Madisonville, Huntsville
