Weekend Trip to The Navasota River Ranch
We had a fantastic family weekend at the Navasota River Ranch. It was so peaceful, no other campers anywhere in sight. We got to fish, foraged some berries, and picked wild flowers. At night we had a raccoon visiting our camp, but he only stole some bait from the boat. :) I would definitely be booking another trip there in the near future. The host William was very friendly. The weather was perfect and so was the atmosphere. Recommend 10 out of 10 :)

We had an amazing experience at this campsite! Our group consisted of two families with children ranging from 5 to 11 years old, and the ranch was the perfect size for them. The kids had a blast riding their bikes to the lake, fishing from the boats, and paddling around in the boats. The sunsets over the lake were absolutely stunning, and the overall vibe of the site was everything we hoped for. It felt like we were immersed in the forest, surrounded by trees, which made the experience even more magical. The site itself was spotless, and we really appreciated the thoughtful touches, like the rural toilet near Site 12. It was equipped with toilet paper, a light with a sensor, and added a level of comfort we weren't expecting. Even the family dog was friendly and welcoming, which was a nice bonus! Julie’s family made the experience even more special. Everyone was incredibly kind, and we enjoyed chatting with them. Eddie, in particular, shared fascinating stories from his wonderfully adventurous life. We’re already looking forward to returning and exploring other sites! Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a peaceful, family-friendly camping experience.

The views at Hilltop Prairie were gorgeous! We loved getting to explore the property with our kids and dog. William was a friendly and welcoming host, giving us maps and explaining the layout of the property and stayed in touch through the app. The property is far enough from town to feel secluded, but close enough that a run to the store for forgotten supplies was quick and easy. We would definitely recommend this place!

The views were beautiful, first morning I heard the rooster crowing and cows mooing, didn’t see either, enjoyed the meet n greet with the horses and ponies! Everyone was super helpful and respectful. The wind blowing in the tall pines and all the birds singing was delightful. Bonus seeing people bring their horses here to ride! Slept 9 hours one night and had a 3 hour nap one day. Just want I needed!! Will definitely be back!!

Me and my girlfriend spent the weekend at site 10 on the ranch. Had an amazing time! Camp was quiet and so were the neighbors. Julie was so helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed meeting the animals! Trust me, it’s worth it. Something about combing a horses mane hahahaha. Stars, lake and quigley the dog were all amazing experiences. Can’t wait for our next weekend there!

My husband and I had not been camping in over 3 years. we went with another couple and made our weekend home right up on the cliff overlooking the Navasota River. It was breathtaking, we had such a wonderful time. We wanted the weekend the relax, do some fishing, have a small fire, stay up really late and just be out away from our everyday life. The fishing was really good, everyone in our party was able to catch a fish if not multiple. The owners of the place were extremely friendly and even gave us a guided tour of the land to meet the needs we were looking for. We will be back to this location again,

We absolutely loved camping at the Navasota River Ranch. William is one of the nicest people we have ever met. When checking in he talks to about what experience you’re looking for and recommends a camp site. He put us at a place where we’d see the stars. It was absolutely gorgeous. Picturesque. This was a first time camping and he give us good tips and helped us find a lot of firewood for our campfire. We felt completely isolated with great privacy. It felt like it was just us and the nature. The property is insanely big and there’s so much to explore. You’re definitely spaced out from other campers. Our dogs had a blast roaming around. Will be booking again soon!

The Navasota River Ranch is a 600 ac parcel of land bounded by more than a mile of the Navasota River on its west side and two tributary creeks on its north and southeast sides. The river bottom is wild and untamed, while the rest is rolling hills reminiscent of the prairie that once greeted settlers. Nearby is Bryan-College Station home of Texas A&M University To the west on Hwy 105 is Washington on the Brazos State Park. This is the location where delegates gathered to hastily draw up a declaration of independence before joining the Runaway Scrape to avoid capture and execution by the advancing Mexican Army. Farther down the road is the famous Blue Bell creamery in Brenham. The tour and ice cream are well worth the trip. On the property are miles of Jeep trails excellent for off road and 4WD vehicles. Guests might prefer hiking along these trails or strike out on foot trails and game trails. Thanks to the hunters who have come for the deer and feral hogs over the years there are numerous observation structures for viewing wildlife up close, or just enjoying the solitude of the deep woods. Three ponds offer bass and perch fishing from the bank or bring your own boat. And then there is the Navasota River...

Several State Parks surround Lake Somerville, the closest from this location is "Birch Creek State Park" with beautiful hiking trails. Highly recommend the drive to check the Parks out. Also recommend visiting "Washington on the Brazos", the birthplace of Texas and is where the Texas Declaration of Independence was signed. It is also a State Park. The "Aggieland Wild Animal Safari" is outside of Bryan College Station and is a great place to take the kids to interact with all kinds of animals. Offers a drive-thru in which you can drive thru as many times as you want, as well as a petting zoo and gift shop. And, if you like shopping, there are lots of antique shops and wineries at Round Top, another scenic drive about 45 minutes away. And all the ice cream lovers must visit the home of "Blue Bell" in Brenham, TX which is only open to the public during the weekdays, not weekends. While in Brenham, kids love to skate at the historic "Silver Wings Ballroom", known as one of the best skating rinks in Texas! Established in 1877 by the Nelius Family, the ranch began as a cotton and cattle farming operation, utilizing horses in the fields until 1948. In the 1950s, Trenckmann Nelius diversified the ranch by introducing chicken and egg production, while still raising cattle and growing maize to feed the chickens. In 1973, Trenckmann and Margie Nelius transformed their vision into reality by founding Coushatte Recreation Ranch, initially offering just 24 campsites. Over the years, the campground has expanded significantly to accommodate 225 sites, complete with full hookups for both 30 and 50 amp service. The campground's name pays homage to the Coushatte Indians, and visitors can explore an Indian Mound on the property, where numerous arrowheads have been discovered. After many years of dedicated management, Trenckmann and Margie passed the torch to their son Howard and his wife Pamela, who operated the ranch until November 2019. The campground is now under the ownership of George Jarkesy, who aims to enhance the experience for guests.
