This small lake is one of three lakes in the area called "Cade Lakes". Great for catching crappie, bass and catfish. Kids enjoy watching the turtles push each other off the logs seen around the banks. If you love to fish, the greatest fishing lake in Texas is a few miles away near Somerville, TX called "Lake Somerville". It's a scenic drive to the Overlook Marina and Lake Somerville Dam. Several State Parks surround Lake Somerville, the closest from this location is "Birch Creek State Park" with beautiful hiking trails. Highly recommend the drive to check the Parks out. Also recommend visiting "Washington on the Brazos", the birthplace of Texas and is where the Texas Declaration of Independence was signed. It is also a State Park. The "Aggieland Wild Animal Safari" is outside of Bryan College Station and is a great place to take the kids to interact with all kinds of animals. Offers a drive-thru in which you can drive thru as many times as you want, as well as a petting zoo and gift shop. And, if you like shopping, there are lots of antique shops and wineries at Round Top, another scenic drive about 45 minutes away. And all the ice cream lovers must visit the home of "Blue Bell" in Brenham, TX which is only open to the public during the weekdays, not weekends. This cedar cabin was built in the late 1950's and was the first building in Birch Creek Subdivision and was used as the real estate office when selling land for Subdivision. Joy Moore bought this fixer-upper in 1986 when the oilfield went under, at a youngster in her early twenties and has owned ever since. Lake Somerville is known for the best fishing lake in Texas. Deer run plentiful on the property and will come up close and personal when fed corn. So, stop and pick up a sack or two of deer corn before arrival. The closest city is about a 20 minute drive to Somerville so make sure to have everything you need before camping.

Coushatte Recreation Ranch stands out as a unique destination in Bellville, Texas, thanks to its rich history and connection to the land once inhabited by the Coushatte Indians. Established in 1877 by the Nelius Family, the ranch began as a cotton and cattle farming operation, utilizing horses in the fields until 1948. The campground's name pays homage to the Coushatte Indians, and visitors can explore an Indian Mound on the property, where numerous arrowheads have been discovered.
After many years of dedicated management, Trenckmann and Margie passed the torch to their son Howard and his wife Pamela, who operated the ranch until November 2019. The campground is now under the ownership of George Jarkesy, who aims to enhance the experience for guests.

Coushatte Recreation Ranch stands out as a unique destination in Bellville, Texas, thanks to its rich history and connection to the land once inhabited by the Coushatte Indians. Established in 1877 by the Nelius Family, the ranch began as a cotton and cattle farming operation, utilizing horses in the fields until 1948. In the 1950s, Trenckmann Nelius diversified the ranch by introducing chicken and egg production, while still raising cattle and growing maize to feed the chickens.
In 1973, Trenckmann and Margie Nelius transformed their vision into reality by founding Coushatte Recreation Ranch, initially offering just 24 campsites. Over the years, the campground has expanded significantly to accommodate 225 sites, complete with full hookups for both 30 and 50 amp service. The campground's name pays homage to the Coushatte Indians, and visitors can explore an Indian Mound on the property, where numerous arrowheads have been discovered.
After many years of dedicated management, Trenckmann and Margie passed the torch to their son Howard and his wife Pamela, who operated the ranch until November 2019. The campground is now under the ownership of George Jarkesy, who aims to enhance the experience for guests.

Everything was as listed. We car camped and were able to pull right next to the water. The fire wood was free and in big supplies! We caught some monster bass in the little lake. The bathroom was clean and well kept which was huge for us. We were the only ones staying there this weekend so it was pretty quiet which was nice. Overall good experience

My family and I had great time there. The property is beautiful. Site 22 is perfectly secluded from other sites. It's the closest to the restroom. Trees provide excellent shade and wind break. We loved exploring all the trails. The host family is amazing. We had a great time meeting the resident dogs. They are very gentle and passive. We're definitely going to return.

I stayed at site 10. Very secluded and surrounded by dense forest. You won’t see anyone until you leave the campsite. Julie gave me a map of the ranch when I checked in that has trail maps on it as well. The trails are marked with painted lids. They can be a bit confusing at times but I suspect that will improve with time. I did not use the amenities so I cannot comment on those. Outhouse is right next to the camping area entrance by site 15. From what I could tell the campsites had some wood already there and you are allowed to use any fallen limbs as firewood. Enjoy!

Place was very peaceful and secluded. The trails were beautiful and the pond was well stocked for good fishing (catch and release of course). 10/10 would highly recommend for those trying to get away from the hustle and bustle and see some stars.

We loved our stay at 5D ranch! Julie is laid back and helpful when you need her. The campsites are secluded and private. We were near the outhouse on this trip which was a unique experience. And the campsite dog, Abba, hung out with our group the entire weekend and ensured no wild animals approached our site. Wonderful time as always, and we will be back!

My seven year old made friends with the owners white dog and gave him a huge hug. We went canoeing on the lake but left early because of the rain. We did have a wonderful camp fire and made s'mores the first night. Before we left my little one said this was the best camping trip ever and the best day in his life. This is not our first camping trip, but this place is his favorite place to go camping.

My family and all the friends we have taken to 5D ranch over the years all love it there. Site 23 is perfectly secluded from other sites with a gentle slope throughout, but 2 large tents fit on a reasonably level area. Trees provide excellent shade and wind break. The host family is amazing. We had a great time meeting other campers, and of course the resident dogs - they are very gentle and passive.

Super cute little fishing cabin that was stocked with everything we needed for a small thanksgiving celebration with our adult kids and pets. We enjoyed fishing at the lake just around the corner. Our only drawback was the burn ban that prohibited s'mores over the fire pit each night, but we can only blame the Texas weather for that. We had a great stay and would come back again. This place is awesome. The interior is like a luxury cabin with all the amenities and comforts you have at home. Excellent air conditioning, amazing waterfall shower, WiFi, and so many other great features to the cabin make it the best cabin we have ever stayed at.
The host Tanya was friendly and had very fast responses to any questions. The location is in an RV park that has charcoal grills, players for the little ones, and great open areas to run with the kids or dogs. It was extremely quiet in regards to neighbors. There are some animal noises from geese and a few dogs but we felt that added to the country feel.
A mile or so down the road is one of the best lakes in Texas and since it’s a state park it’s extremely safe and a pristine environment.
A few minutes down the road in the opposite direction is a Dollar General for all the items you forgot or want some extra snack or drink.
We will absolutely be coming back in the near future.
