Then toward Spring City is Stinging Fork Falls at 25 minutes. Black mountain is my new favorite place especially the south overlook! The Hiking possibilities are nearly endless and close. I'll highlight one thru hike here since both trailheads are only 20 minutes away and is easy to coordinate with only 2 vehicles. It's a 10.2 mile hike that can be done in either direction and has a little something for everyone including a cave, boulder field, cascade and waterfall. It’s hard to get a simple spot to pitch a tent for less than $30 these days. Staying here was definitely worth a few more dollars! The beds were surprisingly comfortable and even though we had temperatures in the low 30s one night the provided space heater with our propane tank kept us more than warm.

Great spot. Scott and Heidi are some of the most generous hosts I have met. They are very warm and welcoming, and being greeted with a drink of my choice was an amazing way to unwind from a long road trip. The trailer was cute, clean and cozy. It feels remote and back country, and yet it was close enough to the Tail of the Dragon that I could be there at first light. I'd definitely do it again!

John and Jenni were so nice, inquired about our arrival time, we arrived quite a bit later than expected, and they still met us at our campsite to make sure we had everything we needed.. The campsite was so peaceful! We took a hike right behind our glamping tent the next morning, the view is kind of blocked, but the sun twinkling through the trees, beautiful foliage falling around you, was very nice and serene! I recommend giving them a try! P.S. Clean restrooms/showers were a plus and the beautiful fresh cut flowers were perfect!

I had a pleasant and comfortable stay at Standing Bear! While I wasn't actively hiking, I got to enjoy the community of hikers who stop at this beautiful property on their way on the AT. I stayed in the private room top tree house and enjoyed the evening fires and open air kitchen. I was met with accommodating and generous staff ( Rodney and Grateful) who made sure I felt welcome and had what I needed. The owner, Maria clearly has a heart for all the people who come through. Lots of love for Standing Bear and I hope to be back as a hiker one day!

The clear walls and ceiling make for a forest emersed one of a kind experience. It is like sleeping on the porch when you were young. Comfy for the whole family.

Our experience is probably the best that we've had so far. The tent was very clean, the bed was very clean and the bathhouse was very clean as well which is amazing. The night sky looked so pretty and it's very nice if you want to escape a busy city and love rural areas. It was nice having access to a mini fridge and the communal microwave was an added bonus. It's the perfect weekend escape for a couple who doesn't like partying and wants to just chill out and take in the fresh air. There was also places to plug in our phones and laptop. The bed was pretty comfortable as well. The only thing I'd suggest is bring bugspray because it can be a little buggy during certain times of the day but it's not very buggy at night besides the occasional spider which we don't mind. Overall very perfect for our needs of being a clean, quite place to chill after doing outdoor activities and exploring new places.

1 night at Magnolia Moon Farm

We had such an incredible time staying at Scott and Heidi's place!! I can't wait to go back; one of the coolest places. We stayed in the stargazers tent and it was SO cute and so well stocked. They built their own 1970's karaoke bar on premises where they made us drinks and sang some Tom waits songs for us. We had such a fun time hanging out with them and hearing their stories. I'll definitely be back through on my next road trip!!

1 night at Standing Bear Farm / Hostel

I love Standing Bear Hostel! It was a great niche experience on the Appalachian Trail and a staple of what the area has to offer! I encourage anyone to go check it out. The people are great, and just be genuine.
