Weekend Trip to Mountain Creek Rest

A little bit of Shangri-La in Western North Carolina. Campsite was immaculate with amazing setting next to a beautiful stream which provides great background noise, not that any is needed because it is very private. The water also helps keep the surrounding air cooler as it was at least 5-10 degrees cooler than Robbinsville which is 20 minutes away. Met the owner Brian who is a skilled carpenter and it shows in the work he has done to the campsite. Outhouse only (very clean), bring your own water and wood.

I have booked Hipcamps that cost twice as much and not half as nice. We absolutely loved our stay at the Island Site. Brian has put so much time and love into these camp sites. We will definitely be back. When we camped in early May, no issues with mosquitos, but bring some repellant as it gets warmer would be safe. Bring some dry kindling for your fire. This is a very tropical area, so everything on the ground is always a bit moist. If your tent requires stakes, bring some line so you can stake off of the level platform.

We absolutely loved tent-camping here for the weekend! Large space for our family of 5. Beautiful views, quiet and peaceful. Facilities were clean and easily accessible. Super close to many trail and hiking options in the Smokies. We loved hearing the many sounds of nature as we fell asleep. Host was very kind and helpful. Would definitely return and camp here in the future!

Unclear as to why is this now called Shannon's land. The address is a campground called Roamstead (yes, address is correct) which is what it was originally posted as when I made the reservation. The staff at Roamstead Campground were amazing and extremely helpful and accommodating. They let me change sites due to not being able to hookup. Can’t say enough about the staff… they were an absolute 10! The facilities were clean and well maintained and a nice playground for the kiddos. That said, it was 100% a campground. Any implied statements that this is someone’s private land/private space like many of the posting on this website would be misleading. In peak season you will be right next to your neighbor just like any other campground. It’s a wonderful place to stay just know you are booking a campground.

2 nights at Mountain Creek Rest

Brian has created a beautiful oasis in the middle of the wild NC mountains! The Islandsite is surrounded by rushing mountain streams on either side. It hit the sweet spot of feeling both safe and private. And Brian hit the perfect balance of being welcoming and informative while also giving you space and privacy. My dog LOVED being able to wander the island off-leash and I loved hearing the roar of the water instead of the roar of engines chasing the Dragon nearby. The hiking was gorgeous, the bathroom clever and clean, and there are sweet little treasures (both man and nature made) to be found on the island. DO put Cedar Cove Church in your GPS and follow Brian's excellent directions from there, otherwise you will end up on Dirk (?) something road which is VERY sketching but doable. Smokey and I both thank you Brian for a wonderful time!

Great little spot for tent camping. Nice owners. Decent bathhouse and nice game room. Loved the free-range chickens and fresh eggs. Good base camp location to take in all the trout streams around Cherokee and Bryson City. Far enough out to enjoy some peace and quiet along the creek.

1 night at Canopy Ridge Safari Tent

We absolutely loved this place. I have never been cozier or felt more luxurious while camping. This place is a delight and everything was laid out and provided so thoughtfully. Everything was easy and fantastic! I don’t know if I’ve ever slept on a comfier bed. We loved this so much we are now considering doing something like this for a honeymoon.

Easy access, friendly owners. Peaceful spot, no fuss, no muss. Clean bathhouse, and restrooms. 10 minutes away from Bryson City (civilization; the nearest town), but far out enough to be away from the Hustle & Bustle.. Very fair priced. I would not hesitate to stay here, again!

5 nights at LAKESIDE GETAWAY ON DOUGLAS

This place is beautiful and LaShann and Jason are wonderful hosts, checking in daily to see if we needed anything. We were there in late April so the lake level was not fully up in the cove, but still a lovely view from the campsite, and accessible. We launched at nearby Swanns Marina. A quiet retreat with nice bathhouse, picnic shelter, and even a glider to sit in the shade and enjoy the view!

Weekend Trip to Mountain Creek Rest

I loved staying at the Diamondstone!! I am a returning guest on Brian’s property and my stay was amazing as always. The cabin was so lovely, cozy and well built. The site was very well maintained and peaceful. I love love love the creek that runs behind the cabin. It’s a natural white noise. Directions to the site were very clear and Brian was responsive and helpful. The check out instructions were clear too and Brian provided all supplies needed to keep the cabin clean for the next guest. I will definitely be back.

We loved staying in Liz’s land, we were joined by another family with kids and had the most magical experience. Liz is a warm, thoughtful and amazing host. We booked the Yurts and they were pristine, comfortable and had basic needs for our trip. The gym was a nice bonus for everyone to have fun. Can’t say enough good things about our stay! The treehouses are quiet, secluded, and actually border GSMNP property and Cherokee National Forest land; the Appalachian Trail at Davenport Gap is ¾ mile away. Nearby GSMNP entrances: Big Creek is 2.5 mi, Cosby at 8 miles. Only 3 to the Pigeon River whitewater section, and accessible to hundreds of miles of mountain biking and hiking roads/trails. Each treehouse was built by hand by hosts (husband/wife team) Anthony and Brenna. A long history of camping and working in the outdoor recreation industry inspired a design to intentionally interact with nature. By utilizing rain collection, solar power generation, composting toiletries, outdoor cooking, each treehouse is completely off-grid. Rest from your adventures on the comfy, queen and full-sized beds. A spacious queen bottom bunk and lofted double mattress can accommodate four adult campers. All bed linens and pillows are provided. The treehouses offer private, indoor bathing and toilet facilities. Every treehouse is equipped with a propane-heated, rain-collection shower and maintenance-free, vented composting toilet. All bath towels/washcloths, plus shampoo/wash are provided in each treehouse bathroom. You can dine al fresco in the trees! The kitchenette boasts wide concrete countertop table dining with four stools, two-burner propane cooktop, potable water and drain sink, and separate propane grill.
