Learn more about this land: This primitive campsite is located 5 minutes from the Abrams Creek Ranger Station at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is private, shaded, and next to a small stream that will lull you to sleep at night. There is a bathhouse with a composting toilet and cold shower available. An old concrete picnic table stands as a testament to the enjoyment and relaxation of several generations and is now glad to be uncovered and open for many generations to come. There are numerous species of wild flora and fauna right there in your campsite! Across the fence is an old barn and field that will remind you of mountain living from days gone by. You will have access to miles of backcountry hiking once you take the 5 minute drive to the GSMNP and you can come back to your campsite and enjoy your privacy! You may also enjoy motorcycling on the dragon which is 5 miles at the end of Happy Valley Road. Or...maybe you just want to hang up the hammock and listen to the frogs and watch the fireflies. Please only bring certified pest free fire wood or gather the abundance of dead wood around the area. We are so close to the park, we don't want to bring in unwanted pests in firewood.

On leash. We LOVE pets! In fact, our little mini horse Joe may want to visit you during your stay. We ask that you keep your dogs leashed at all times. As private as the campground is, it's only a field away from a road that can be busy on the weekends and we would hate for your pet to be in any danger. Also, please don't leave your pet tied up unattended.

I loved it here I’ve got an almost two year old daughter and it was me her my husband my mom and his mom all out for an outing to get away and it was way better than I ever could have expected it was beautiful peaceful and the comfort of a fire and enjoying the wild and all the nature and my kid absolutely loved the little creek and all the critters it was the best place we’ve been to for camping we definitely will come back!

It was a wonderful stay, we really enjoyed our time here. This morning the chickens and the dog came to greet us, which was such a lovely touch. High recommend.

Loved what was done with the space to make it feel homey. Site was pretty close to their home, which wouldn’t have been bad, except we felt bad when we had to use the car panic to scare off a bear in the middle of the night!

I went with a couple of friends over the weekend and had a great time! The campsite had a lot of space and was set up very cute. The campsite was clean and not covered in spiders nests. A lot of their animals came to visit us in the campsite including her dogs, pigs, and chickens. They came to check in at the beginning to make sure we were okay but didn’t hover through the weekend. Her son gave me a pumpkin cookie made with fresh pumpkins they grew and it was delicious. There is a picnic table, outhouse (with power outlets), and a camping shower. The outhouse has an outlet in it and we were able to use our movie projector at night. There’s some cute things set up for kids like toys in the shower and little castles set up in nooks around the site. The site is close to the road and it’s a scenic drive that gets a decent amount of traffic so you can hear cars in the morning/ at night. They do have one of the fenced pens for their farm set up in between the site and the road so you’re kinda tucked back away from the road making it safer for kids and pets and better for privacy. Since the site itself is so open there is a lot of sunlight to the campsite. Would bring something for shade in summer. The views driving there and from hiking nearby was incredible. Had to leave early due to family emergency but wished I could’ve stayed longer. Overall great experience would recommend for any camping occasion (friends, family, romantic, etc). Would come back for sure!

I absolutely loved my stay on Sharon’s land! The campsite was adorable, with little fairy touches throughout that made it feel magical. Sharon herself was so kind and accommodating—it was a pleasure to meet her. The site was very clean and conveniently located near the west side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I’m already making plans to stay here again and would highly recommend it!

Happy Valley Hideaway was a great spot to camp nearby the smokies! Sharon was such a good host and even provided us starter logs when we were struggling to start our fire. The land is beautiful and comes with a wonderful bag shower and bathhouse! Will definitely be going again!

This was a really nice spot! It was pretty quick access into the park and still close enough to town to run and grab things we forgot or ran out of. We didn't utilize the site to its full potential because we were there for hiking and spending time in the Smoky Mountains. But the composting toilet and outdoor solar showers were a huge bonus! When you've been hot and sweaty all day, there is nothing like coming back to your campsite and having some small comforts of home. Sharon checked in on us and gave us some pointers while we were there. She really did a wonderful in job in making it a lovely place to call home for the week! We've already talked about possibly coming for a stay in the spring to get a whole different experience of the mountains.

Great site. Very cozy and secluded, with exactly as much space as we wanted for our family and pup. Great hiking is close by, and we had no trouble at all finding firewood at the site and on the nearby trail. Truly a home away from home for us. The restroom is very helpful if you need to talk the family into going camping as well 😄

Sharon and Matt are great hosts. When it rained, Matt came out and set up some tarps over our tents when we were not there, it was very helpful. They offered tubes and kayaks that they have. I have been there 3 years in a row now and plan on going back

“There are so many interesting things out here”. Kids loved the fairy houses, “oldtimey phone”, turnstile… one pitched a hammock over the creek. It’s a little magical nook in the woods. No cell service, get directions to your next stop before you get out into the hills.

nice tucked away spot right outside the park, the outhouse and bath house are nice to have especially after living completely outdoors for several days although we didn’t use the bath house because it was freezing outside 😂 sharon was very kind, we’d definitely come back again!

My friends and I had a great time! We arrived after dark but had no issue finding the campground. Plenty of wood for a fire and there was lots of space to hang hammocks. Would definitely come back :)

We camped using a rooftop tent. The campsite was as described, and having a toilet was definitely nice! At night though, neighbors or someone on Sharon's land was very loud and coming close to the tent. That was unpleasant. If that hadn't happened, it would have been a lot better. It was still a nice experience overall though.

Our second time camping at Happy Valley, enjoyed every minute. Even though it rained a lot on us, Sharon checked on us and made sure we had what we needed. The sound of the creek at night was so relaxing. A stones throw away from Smokey Mountains national park makes it easy to explore. Highly recommended!!

The camping site was perfect for me, my gf and our dog! The amenities were great with the outhouse, picnic table, fire pit area and outdoor shower. It was serene to fall asleep to no city noise and look up to the stars without light pollution. Shannon and Matthew were great hosts and promptly met us as we started unloading. Would love to stay there again when we adventure to new parts of the Great Smokey’s.

This was a perfect spot right near the Great Smokies Mountains. The land was beautiful, the amenities were really pristine, and we loved to see the two horses. As a surprise, they gave us churros for dessert, and they were delicious! We liked that property only had one camp site, so we were there by ourselves, which was really nice. This was one of the best campsites we have been to, and we would definitely recommend 100%!

We were looking for a mini getaway to unplug from work. The spot was perfect for us with a outhouse, complete with a composting toilet and water and soap to wash hands, a picnic table, campfire spot, and no cell coverage (no ability to answer work emails/texts!). There was some road noise during the day, but it didn’t bother us. We enjoyed watching the beautiful horses and simply being in nature.

I had a great time camping on Sharon’s property! It was so close to Abrams Creek Ranger station that I could bike there. Plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the outdoors. She and her son were incredibly accommodating and kind, even brought me cookies upon my arrival and allowed me access to their wifi. Beautiful and secluded site.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 100% RECOMMEND My fiance and I's minds were blown with this location. It was up in the mountains surrounded by trees. It had a stream along the edge of the site with a small bridge that leads you to a hammock to bask in the sun. It also had a really neat "tree house" out house with toilet paper provided and a light. There was a free standing shower that really make you feel like you were showering outdoors (you literally were) Sharon and her nephews stopped by to provide warm water to shower (what a treat) she even provided restaurants and hiking trail suggestions. The bugs were pretty much non existent. My fiance, pups & I will definitely be returning!

The campsite was exactly as described. It was clean and ready for us. Access for one vehicle was easy and right off the road. That being said remember that you are right off the road so if motorcycle and car noise bothers you it is constant throughout the day. It did settle down at night and didn't bother sleep from 11pm-7am. You are nestled in the valley and the horse in the field was really cool for our 6 yr old. Very friendly and came up to fence and allowed to pet multiple times!

The host was very kind and helped us figure out directions the next day! It was also super helpful that they offered their wifi from their house since there is spotty cell service in the area! We had a lovely fire and the table was large enough for many more than just us! We also appreciated how clean the composting toilet was as well! And the horse was super sweet too! We loved that it was dog friendly!
