I traveled the world as a senior executive for Baskin-Robbins, Dunkin' Donuts, Papa Johns, Blockbuster, 7-Eleven and other retail franchises, making the world safe for Pizza, Ice Cream, Pancakes Video Rentals and American convenience. And I was ready for something more fufilling. I scouted for a place of exquisite natural beauty and I found it here. I bought way too much land just before the real estate bust and learned how to turn a nice fortune into a very small one.
I faced challenges and had lots of fun. Now I want to share our experience.

Blue Heron Campground: A Hidden Gem of History and Nature

The best part about this site are the views! Relax on the side of the Cumberland Plateau while overlooking Burroughs Cove and the Elk River. You can see the camp sites from the main road, so there will be some road noise.
Sites 1/2 are hard/large graveled, tent camping will be very challenging, heavy duty tent stakes are highly recommended with mats/padding.
There is an electrical box at each end of the hard graveled parking areas (Sites 1 and 2) with 20- and 30-amp plugs, plus 110v. If the power is not working, please check the panel and turn on/reset the breakers, many of our guests turn them off when departing. If you are at Site #2 and the steps above do not work, please check/do the same at the Site #1 panel (it is the master power source).
Water is NOT available on site. NOTE: Depending on the time of year (warmer months only) a water container with a limited amount of NON-POTABLE water is on site for your use. Please plan on filling your water reservoir(s) PRIOR to arriving. There is an outhouse for all guests, picnic tables and fire rings for Sites 1 and 2. The camping area is fairly close to SR-50 so please expect to hear some road noise, more so in the winter months.
The entrance/driveway is on a small incline, if you are traveling in a light vehicle and a heavy camper, it's best to maintain a slow and steady speed to the camp site (for almost everyone, this is not an issue). If you are towing a camper, we recommend the total length of the vehicle and the trailer not exceeding 30ft, There is not a significant place to "turn around" at the sites and novice drivers (not used to backing out of tight spots with longer rigs) may find this very challenging.
There is a double gate that is usually closed, and latched so it stays closed, it is not "locked". The site is self-serve (not manned), Site #1 is to the left, Site #2 is to the right, and Site #3 is down the path past the outhouse at the bottom of the path. It is recommended that campers set up early for Site 3 (still daylight) to get an idea of the layout. Parking for Site #3 is by the shed at the main entrance and power is not available at the site.

Tri Mountain View Campground is located in the Northeast corner of Tennessee in the town of Shady Valley. With an elevation of 2,800 feet, Shady Valley is the second highest town in Tennessee. It is just 26 miles from the Bristol Raceway and the Bristol Caverns. It is just a 15 minute drive to Backbone rock and a short drive to the Appalachian Trail. The property was a Dairy Farm and went out of business in the late 90’s and since then there has been over 3,000 trees planted. Some of these trees include the rare Butternut and Hazelnut, but mostly White Pine, Walnut and Oaks. The property has approximately 1,000 feet of fishing on Beaver dam creek, so we recommend bringing waders. There is also a shower house, washer and dryer.

Peaceful Hills Retreat, a family owned business, started in May of 2017. It all began when Jennifer’s brilliant brother booked a two-story home through Airbnb for Jennifer and the family for a week in the Carolinas. Their Airbnb vacation was a great experience, and she loved having a kitchen to cook in, while traveling with her large family. She gladly said goodbye to tiny hotel rooms. Linda and her daughter, Jennifer realized they desired to run a BnB, and watched the scattered pieces beautifully fall into place.
Peaceful Hills Retreat is also a wedding venue. There are three beautiful spots for a lovely outdoor wedding. The waterfall site is a favorite. The lodge is a beautiful place for the reception to take place outdoors

Very private, yet close to the adorable Tellico Plains Historical town. Grains Bakery is a must. Big Bear tubing is a second must. Fly fishing in the Tellico River, hiking, off roading and waterfalls are also high on my recommendation list! The property is quiet, dark and has a beautiful Mountain View and a refreshing creek. There was only one other camper there when I was. The dogs loved running around the property and cooling down in the creek. The bugs are gonna be out bc it’s East TN in the muggy summer, but wear bug spray, listen to the crickets & cicadas and watch the lightning bugs dance over the grass as the stars light up the night sky! I’m not a morning person, but I bet the sunrise there is 10/10! Responsive host, friendly and left us in peace after introducing themselves.

4 nights at The Falls at Sewanee Creek
This is our second time staying at the Beech Treehouse. What a magical place. Its quiet, calm, a perfect place to recharge. At night, fireflies come out to light the treelines. Deer can also be sleeping in the field in front of the tree house at night. The cooking setup is quite nice also, if you want to cook your own meals. The AC in the loft is a nice touch during summer. Such a wonderful experience.

Shaded Creek Rv is such a peaceful and comfortable place to stay! We are 63ft when hitched, 45’ when not and we had no issues getting into site 4. The water pressure, 50amp electric, and sewer performed perfectly. You’re parked right on grass so there’s no mud or tiny gravel coming inside with you. Robert and his family are super kind and we enjoyed meeting them! The property is gorgeous with a creek on one side and mountains on the others. We enjoyed the quiet, the unpolluted, dark skies at night, the cute ducks and chickens curiously checking us out, and of course Sadie. We highly recommend this place and have even extended our stay at Shaded Creek.

Beautiful view. So peaceful. Everything you need. The pups loved exploring the big yard. Melissa was a great communicator. The areas around offer so much. Rock Island State Park, Fall Creek Falls State Park, Burgess Falls State Park, Cumberland Caverns & Downtown McMinnville are the spots I hit. Great hiking for all levels and waterfalls galore! I even extended an extra night bc I couldn’t get enough of the area and the peacefulness of that mountain top!

only thing i will say is that the entrance is gated (great, i love that i felt safe) but if you have a big vehicle over 25/30 ft, like a truck and trailer, the section of driveway before the gate, is not long at all so you’ll have to leave your vehicle in the road (hazards on obviously)and open the gate before pulling into the drive. the gate opens towards the road.

We loved the whole experience of going to Honeysuckle! The whole campground is beautiful. The sites are a nice size and spaced apart nicely so everyone can have their privacy. The viewpoints of the smokies was incredible on the hikes that are just on the property. We loved the stay in the RV and will definitely look into the cabin for next time with our family.

We loved Blue Heron! Big Oak is a little further away from the "beach" than we wanted, so Don allowed us to move. We chose one of the river sites, and it was perfect. Plenty of trees to set up the hammock and slackline, lots of open space for fetch with the dog, and right on the water so we could cool off whenever we wanted. We'll be back!

Great camping area! Nice clean spot and down a scenic windy road through the rural mountains. I do wish I knew how close our site was to the road and street light, but it wasn't a big deal! It was a great experience and we had a nice campfire before bed. I will say some people either hogged the bathrooms/showers or somehow the doors locked themselves for a long while, but that is not the hosts' fault. Just a note to other campers to be more respectful of shared spaces. (Sorry for the late review- have been quite busy!)

An amazing stay on a beautiful property. We stayed at in the Turtle Creek Pop Up camper and could not have been happier. John and his family have created something special here and their customer service is above and beyond with check-ins to see how things are going to expert knowledge of the area. Wifi was fast on the hill where we were located. The bathhouse is very nice with hot showers and it is not a typical bathhouse, you have complete privacy. There's a lot to love at Honeysuckle Springs!
