We loved spending the weekend on Sunset Ridge! The view is jaw droppingly beautiful, from the sunsets to just seeing the clouds float through the mountains. To have full hookups in a place like this with no other RVs around is a dream. John greeted us when we arrived and made sure we had everything we needed, and gave us a great list of local trails and places to ride our off road vehicles. I imagine the foliage is stunning here in the fall, so hopefully we'll be back someday!

Absolutely beautiful spot with one of the most lovely sunsets I've ever seen! We loved our stay & appreciate how easy the spot was to get set up. It was extremely relaxing & quiet, with the birds being the loudest thing almost all day until a stray car would come up the mountain. We have T-Mobile & the service was surprisingly great once you get about 100ft from the property. Would definitely recommend, & would love to stay again!!

Though listed as a primarily RV site, we tent camped. The grass was cut low so we had no problem setting up. The views are incredible and the area is very quiet. The road behind the site has almost no traffic because there are only a couple more houses up the road. John and Jenni were great and, it turns out, own another site we stayed at last year! Sit by the fire, watch the mists roll in and out, and enjoy the long-range views!

Breathtaking views & a few caveats

The two biggest things this spot has going for it are the views and the peaceful quiet. Those are the pros. The biggest con is that is it does sit basically right on the road. That was a little unexpected looking at the pictures. That being said, there was very little traffic, only a few specific trucks that we saw going by that lived up the road a little way. The fact that there is a cottage/house (I believe the host lives there) right in the front of the parking spot is also not a plus, but was evident in the photos so not a surprise. If you’re looking for a spot where you’ll be completely by yourself and no one will see you, this is not it. If you’re looking for a spot where you’ll have some woods to explore, walking trails, or hikes, this is not it. If sitting outside looking at the mountains and sky and sitting with your thoughts and you don’t mind the occasional car coming or going is your jam, you'll be good here. The host was just right in terms of communication. We didn’t need him for anything other than the welcome emails/directions he sent so he left us alone. We had no trouble finding the place. We never lost signal, even though he said we would. We did not have any trouble accessing it, even though we are brand new to towing a camper. Altogether, we had a very nice stay, and we did enjoy it thoroughly. Just know what this spot is, and isn’t, before you book so that it will meet your expectations.

Easy directions to follow, peacefully quiet and great view!
Stayed just one night to check out max patch the next day but would return again when in the area. We had our own battery bank so didn’t use the electricity.
*there was a dog at the cabin below but he stayed in his side of the road and didn’t make a noise- he was super cute!*

This is a great little exclusive place, had full hook ups and a great mountain view. Had 50amp and 30amp service. We pulled our 26' travel trailer up there no problems. It's about 4 miles off of i40. We used it to stay over night while making it back up north.

Sunset Ridge near Del Rio, TN is a true hidden gem perched high on a ridge with sweeping 50-mile western views of untouched American wilderness. From towering 6,000+ ft Smoky Mountain peaks to dense pine forests, deer, bears, and classic backwoods charm, this spot delivers the authentic mountain experience. Like many Hipcamp sites, you’ll drive through a few “interesting” areas to get there, but it’s absolutely worth the short detour off I-40. Hurricane Helen repair work continues in the region, so expect minor delays—but nothing that should deter your stay.
The site itself is well laid out with a reliable 50-AMP hookup (30-AMP rigs should bring an adapter), two properly placed sewer connections for easy access, and a well-pump water source offering around 15–20 psi. We found that perfectly adequate for daily use, or you can fill your onboard tank and enjoy a stronger 40–50 psi via your RV’s pump.
A cozy two-person swing overlooks the valley and is perfect for sunrise coffee or sunset photos. The spacious gravel circular driveway provides plenty of room for multiple vehicles and offers simple, level parking. Nights were peacefully quiet, with only the sounds of the woods around you. The paved road network above and around the property makes for great short hikes and even better sunset views. A firepit, available WiFi, and open sky complete the experience. Highly recommended for anyone seeking solitude, scenery, and Smoky Mountain magic. We will definitely be back soon.

Our stay at John's place at Sunset ridge was wonderful. Very private and quiet with a beautiful view of the mountains and, yes, sunsets. Easy in and out with room for two campers if you want to have a friend join. We highly recommend this site. When I asked for local suggestions they shared a great list. Our only regret is that we could not stay longer.

We had a wonderful time staying at John's campsite and thoroughly enjoyed the absolutely incredible views!!
We have a 45ft Class A Motorhome pulling a 25ft flatbed trailer carrying our full-size Titan truck and had plenty of room.
We were a little concerned upon reading some people's reviews about the drive to the campsite so we unhooked the trailer from the rv prior to driving up the mountain and pulled the trailer with the truck to which we had no problems at all getting to the campsite.
The campsite has 50 amp hookup, water, sewer and excellent wifi. Did I mention the impeccable views 😀
We surely hope to stay here again the next time we travel to this area.

The views are priceless. Very happy with our stay. Would recommend to anyone in a heartbeat. We went to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville, the drive was absolutely beautiful. A great place to be away from all the hustle and bustle after being in those cities.

Information on getting there. We pulled a 36 ft tag along trailer. It's very narrow one lane road last 1/4 mile. But no traffic hardly.

I contacted John before I made reservations with a concern I had. He quickly responded and I made my reservation. The directions to the property were excellent, we found it with no problem. Let me tell you, this place is fantastic! The view is spectacular! This is a very large lot with all hookups, fire ring, wood, picnic table and a wonderful wooden swing to enjoy the view. This is a great spot. Not sure you will find many locations with full hook ups and such a beautiful view on a mountain ridge all to yourself. The hook ups worked perfectly and plenty of space to navigate on the pad with two entrances allowing for pull-through access.
As other reviews mentioned, the roads from Rte 40 to the site are a bit narrow and windy. I was able to navigate with my small Class A but it may make some nervous in larger rigs. For myself, it was definitely worth the trip. I extended my stay two times because I liked the spot so much. The hosts were very responsive to communication. I highly recommend this HipCamp.

Absolutely beautiful view and extremely friendly and helpful hosts! Difficult to find the spot, even with the directions given, and the hookups were a bit difficult to position for using my standard equipment on my 23’ trailer. The roads are very steep and difficult to haul up.

Such a lovely stay! The view is unbeatable, and the area is very nice and private. John and his wife gave great hiking recommendations, and overall were great hosts! Would recommend this spot to anyone wanting a nice relaxing spot to catch some mountain views while in the Smokies.

Great Place To Stay With a View! We Drive a Tesla and car camp so we where able to charge with the mobile connector and the Nema 14-50 outlet they also had a regular 110 outlet as well! We enjoyed the picnic table and got to meet the host! Super friendly and Woudl definitely stay again we hike Lemon gap to max patch and got to take a cool road through Pisgah national forest from this hip camp!

Nice gravel, level, pull-thru site. Large enough for a big rig but once you get off of I-40 there are some narrow curvy roads to get here that are not so big rig friendly. The view was great, and very quiet.

This was the perfect spot for our first trip with our new camper. The view was beautiful. The site was easy to access and set-up was a breeze since the site was so well kept. Joe was an excellent host. We definitely hope to be back some day.
