The history of the Pump House began in 1878, when three ambitious men hatched a plan for the world's first long-distance underground oil pipeline which would transport oil from well to refinery more quickly and efficiently than the horse-drawn wagons of the time. Pumping stations were needed every fifty miles along this long route to keep pressure on the pipeline so that the oil could reach its destination. Pump House Bed and Breakfast is one of the only properties in the country in which the both the original homes of the foremen and the large brick buildings remain. Doug, owner, has spent more than 20 years lovingly restoring these foreman houses as well as the large industrial brick buildings. The Brick Barn Hall once housed steam pumps to pressurize the pipe and keep the oil moving, and the Catawissa Cabin behind it served as the telegraph office. The Studio Hall contained boilers that produced the steam to power the pumps, while the adjoining Studio Cabin functioned as a blacksmith's workspace. Today, the buildings function as reception spaces for weddings and other special events, and house private suites as well as an art studio where Doug pursues his work and teaches drawing, ceramics, and stained glass classes. Our glamping site is tucked away in the woods on our 27-acre property overlooking our 4.5-acre pond. With breathtaking scenery and views, this is sure to be a glamping experience to never forget! Upon arrival, we were greeted by Allen and the kids, and had such a pleasant experience. He drove out belongings and some of us down the the glamping site and was kind and welcoming. The tent was clean, comfortable and warm. We had all the firewood we needed, cooking supplies, composting toilet in the outhouse, water. My husband and I had a great time with our son and teenage nephews. Highly recommend the beautiful surrounding scenery of the lake and woods and wildlife. I didn’t get to meet Donna, but she is very friendly and communicative. Thank you for a great stay!

This glamping tent was PERFECT!!! Donna, Alan, and Tyrion 🐱 were perfect hosts. The heater in the tent was great for the colder nights and my puppy loved the land to sniff around. Very close to Rickette’s Glen state park and local to some cidery’s and winery’s. We even checked out a drive-in movie when we were there. If you’re looking to unplug and to have some privacy, this is perfect :)

🍁Paper Mill Pines Glamping Getaway is a lovely Hipcamp in Shickshinny, PA. Words can not adequately convey just how amazing this place is. 🏕️. The serenity of the wind and trees, tranquility of the pond, the sight of the crackling campfire, sounds of birds chirping, roosters crowing, and critters scurrying about in the fallen leaves - and the calm of morning, with stillness sitting all around you. It is just so peaceful. Being in nature feeds your soul. We will absolutely be back! 🍂

we had the best weekend at paper mill pines. as people who don’t usually camp, we felt so safe, welcomed, and totally looked after. the hosts were incredible, so kind and genuine the entire time. the site had everything we could have needed, even after overpacking. the coleman bundle was a must, the bluetooth speaker somehow lasted the whole trip, and the firewood supply never ended. the bathroom was spotless, and the 4x4 drive into the site made it feel like a real little adventure. just a heads up for t-mobile users, there’s no service, so download your playlists ahead of time. our group of five left with full hearts, full stomachs, and so many good memories. can’t recommend this place enough

We had such a great experience camping here! The site itself was beautiful — peaceful, clean, and surrounded by nature. We camped with our two-year-old, and it couldn’t have been a better fit for our family. Everything we needed was right there, which made the whole trip so much easier with a little one. It really felt like the perfect balance of comfort and the outdoors. It’s not always easy to find a campsite that works so well for families with young children, but this one truly exceeded our expectations. We’re already looking forward to coming back and would absolutely recommend it to anyone, whether you’re camping with kids or just looking for a relaxing and enjoyable getaway.

I really enjoyed this place. It is very peaceful and clean, perfect for resting and disconnecting. The surroundings are beautiful: watching the sunrise over the lake, the sunsets, and the bonfires at night made the experience unforgettable. The nature around brings peace and energy, ideal for relaxing and reconnecting. The hosts were very attentive and always available for anything I needed. You can feel the care and dedication they put into maintaining the place, which makes you feel welcome from the very first moment. Overall, it was an excellent experience and I definitely recommend it. It’s a place I would love to return to.

Donna and Allen were great host and I would highly recommend their campsite. Our family had so much fun relaxing and enjoying the sites of the town. Additionally the hosts were super kind to us and our children giving us a run down of what was fun to do in the area and letting my little ones help refill the potable water in the 4x4!!! Such a beautiful getaway! The owners were so friendly and welcoming. They supplied so much already on the site - water, cooking utensils, pans , wood, extra towels, battery powered fan, really they had everything you needed. They even checked on us to see if we needed more water. They’re very friendly and the property is gorgeous! We had a wonderful stay and went to the state park to hike which wasn’t far from the site. Totally will be coming back! Highly highly recommend!! 1000/10.

1 night at River Mountain Outdoors

Me and my boyfriend loved this spot. Although we didn’t have a lot of time to explore as much as we wanted, we were pleasantly surprised about what we were able to see :) We also petted some really sweet kitties :,) The cabin was soooo cozy and the breeze all night made for an amazing sleep. I woke up not wanting to leave bed. We spoke with the land owner for a little, she is so sweet and welcoming. It seems like they put a lot of effort into their property to make everything perfect :) Definitely the highlight of my PA trip!!!
