The history of the Pump House began in 1878, when three ambitious men hatched a plan for the world's first long-distance underground oil pipeline which would transport oil from well to refinery more quickly and efficiently than the horse-drawn wagons of the time. Pumping stations were needed every fifty miles along this long route to keep pressure on the pipeline so that the oil could reach its destination. Pump House Bed and Breakfast is one of the only properties in the country in which the both the original homes of the foremen and the large brick buildings remain. Doug, owner, has spent more than 20 years lovingly restoring these foreman houses as well as the large industrial brick buildings. The Brick Barn Hall once housed steam pumps to pressurize the pipe and keep the oil moving, and the Catawissa Cabin behind it served as the telegraph office. The Studio Hall contained boilers that produced the steam to power the pumps, while the adjoining Studio Cabin functioned as a blacksmith's workspace. Today, the buildings function as reception spaces for weddings and other special events, and house private suites as well as an art studio where Doug pursues his work and teaches drawing, ceramics, and stained glass classes. Come experience a stay at our Forest Sanctuary, tucked away on the edge of the lush Danby State Forest. A perfect location to stay while exploring the Finger Lakes or simply getting away from the everyday hustle. Our beautiful 5-acre Sanctuary is surrounded by deep forest, small meadows, hiking trails, and abundant wildlife. We are conveniently located just 15 minutes south of Downtown Ithaca, and only 5 minutes from Danby Food and Drink (local eatery and store). Everything at the Sanctuary was hand-built by your host, who lives in a separate dwelling nearby. Our "Tiny Home"/"Cabin" can be described as both rustic and luxurious. It stands alone (not attached to any other structures) and is private. It is a fully finished, one-room studio with beautiful, unique woodwork. There is a cozy, 'treehouse-like' lofted full-sized bed, and a couch below that can open into a bed. There are lots of big windows to let in natural light, fresh air, and beautiful forest views. This cabin has electricity and Wi-Fi included, as well as access to potable well water close by (as long as temperatures are above freezing). This tiny home has NO indoor plumbing. This tiny home has no shower facilities at this time (outdoor shower is pending). There is a private outhouse for your use, a separate structure close by with a composting toilet (basically a bucket with a sawdust system). If this is something that may make you uncomfortable, this space may not be a good fit for you.

Upon arrival we were greeted by Mr ,Russ the GM. The cabin fire was prelit for us and it was really toasty. Thanks Russ! We recommend bringing lots of water and lanterns as there is no running water or electricity at the saw mill. This is a wonderful place to go and enjoy ,

Great place to stay! Russ is a kind and patient guy I got to the campsite really late and still he met me there and showed me where I was gonna be staying and I really appreciated that! Lots of hiking and scenery, great patio on the back of the cabin, comes with a fridge and microwave for any food you bring. There is no insulation so whatever the temperature it is outside it will also be inside, except in the summer there is a window unit, and it’s a tin roof so rain is extra loud on the roof. Other than these things I would recommend anyone stay here for a weekend of solitude or a family getaway!

This is our second time visiting the cabin. Everything you need is there. No frills, but if you want an experience, relaxing in the woods and being with nature, it is the perfect spot for you.! Our hosts were very generous and responsive to any needs we had. We will definitely go back next year! The Eagles on the lake are always a beautiful sight to see!

This was a last minute stop on our trip. Aric was very accommodating! I would love to come back in the summer, it seems like a really good time. The cabin was clean and cozy. There was a like a clubhouse with a kitchen, warm shower and toilets. It wasn’t a far walk.. The other campers were very courteous. We happen to come on the last weekend and they were having a potluck. I love being nude in nature. This was perfect!

The cabin was small and cozy. Perfect for my fiancé and I. We brought our two cats which if your pets are adventurous I wouldn’t recommend. There were many small places for my fur babies to hide (and not in a good way.) The only negative thing I have to say is the description boasted many pots and pans which wasn’t the case. There was only one small pot and one frying pan. We had to drive almost 45 minutes one way to a Walmart to buy an electric griddle. My fiancé loved the lakefront fishing. He caught so many fish. Watching the sun rise and set over the lake was beautiful. If you’re looking for peace and quiet and don’t mind no indoor bathroom I’d highly recommend Sunset Shore Cabin

Weekend Trip to Secluded BLT Cabin

The spot is complete tranquility. In a span of 3 days, I only had one passerby on an ATV, otherwise it is basically in the woods, and the nature is impressive all around you. There is no power and barely any cel coverage (almost none really) so be ready for that, but there was plenty of wood for the woodstove, and I was offered to stay an extra 12+ hours if I needed, which added to the "no stress" time I had. The hosts are quick to respond and let me be otherwise. I would stay again.

I loved Andrea’s place!! It was really nicely secluded and had everything you’d need for a glamping getaway. We have a really reactive dog who barks and gets anxious at the sight or sound of nearly anything and she was so calm at this cabin. We had no issues driving in our non 4WD car or finding the place, it was all very easy. We really enjoyed the fire and seeing the stars at night. I’ll definitely be back.

Weekend Trip to Sawmill Woodzie/Elk Creek Escape

We had a fantastic Labor Day weekend in Cubby 1! It’s a very cute little cabin with a comfortable bed, back deck with a gorgeous view, and a nice little fire pit out front. Everything was super clean, and it was furnished with a fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, Keurig, and a few other kitchen appliances. No running water in the cabin, but there’s a spigot right out front with potable water. They also have a window AC and a space heater inside, which definitely helped a bit during the night when it was cold, even though the cabin isn’t insulated. It’s a huge step up from our normal tent camping, but still rustic and close to nature. We loved our weekend here and will definitely be back!

My husband, dogs, and I all had an amazing mini trip at Andrea’s cabin! Our dogs can be scared of strangers so we try to pick secluded spots and this cabin was perfect. We didn’t see any people, though we did hear dogs barking in the distance at night but that’s no biggie and my dogs we’re pretty quickly unphased. We did also hear coyotes not far away, so just be smart about camping around wildlife, as one should be! The cabin was so clean, the cots, outdoor shower/sink, grill and cast iron fireplace were amazing accommodations and there was firewood for sale as well. There’s also a hammock, fire pit & swing! We had an amazing time just relaxing in nature with our dogs and looking at the super bright stars! Our dogs had so much room to roam/run around and they had the time of their lives. Highly recommend this cabin getaway!!

We had such a relaxing time. Everyone, well, it felt like a big family, wonderful feeling! Aric and Colleen very warm and welcoming. I couldn't recommend this place more. The cabin was small but so cozy, clean and well kept. The small porch was excellent for just relaxing and watching the fish jump in the pond.
