Sarah and Stein * Camp Blackbird is a 28 acre property that runs along Beltzville State Park in Carbon County, PA. So besides the camp, there is an additional 3,002-acres of state park to explore. There are a total of 2 sites. The land was vacant for decades and unfortunately used to dump household garbage during that time. We cleaned up the land, built a home and bat habitat. We, Sarah and Stein, always disliked renting a camp site somewhere and then ending up on top of people. So it was our goal to make space on our land for campers like us that want to be surrounded by nature, not other camp sites. A portion of the proceeds from your stay will be donated to bat habitat conservation and bat sanctuaries around the world. We are grateful for the hundreds of campers that have stayed with us. Thank you to all of you that have left a clean site and not made unnecessary noise that would disturb the countless species that share the forest with us. Year round activities at Blue Mountain Resort, adventure on The Appalachian Trail, fine dining, biking the rail trail and whitewater rafting in Jim Thorpe, all within a 25 minute drive. The property is not suitable for parties or events. The area is a QUIET ZONE. Ideal for people looking to unplug from it all and become one with nature. It is teaming with wildlife and is ideal for birding. The hosts mission is to disturb wildlife and its habitats as little as possible. Sunrise, Sunset, Moon rise, Bird watching, all very visible from this site. Car accessible, no walking to campsite required. At all sites, different seasons bring different activities. Spring: Kayaking, fishing and hiking. Summer: hiking, fishing in the pond, cooling off in the swim hole. We will be decorated for Halloween. We are currently working a scary trail. Pitch your tent along Irish Creek under a canopy of Maples at Mystic Hollow. Irish Creek stream is a tributary to the Schuylkill River. The land is mostly flat for walking to camping area. There is also a small bridge that goes over a small strip of wetlands. Fire rings are included. I can haul your gear to your spot with tractor and wagon if needed. There is a port-a-potty close by. If you have your own portapotty, you must take the waste with you. We have no way to dispose of human waste. Absolutely no disposing of human waste on the property or in the trash. There will be a fine. We are flexible with check-in and check-out times if we are not at full capacity. Just let us know ahead of time. We allow dogs. They must be on leashes unless they are friendly and play well with others. You must clean up your dog's poop! No exceptions! We are 5 minutes from the Schuylkill River. 10 minutes from Ontelaunee Lake. 15 minutes from Blue Marsh. 15 minutes from the Appalacian Trail. Trail heads nearby Port Clinton, Hamburg, Bernville, Bethel, Blue Rocks, Kempton... 20 minutes from Hawk Mountain. We are an hour from Jim Thorpe. There are several wineries in the area including Long Trout Winery where wine is cool and hippy chicks rule! My favorite! Lots of wildlife. Expect to hear owls, blue heron, cows, goats, chickens, hawks, eagles, dogs, racoons and coyotes. Racoons will steal food that is not put away or in coolers. Deer may walk past in the middle of the night. Hiking, kayaking, tubing, fishing, mountain biking, bike trails, etc... all nearby. Sadly there are no fish in Irish Creek worth catching. The Crayfish are! As with any land situated along a water source, there is always a possibility of flooding. We flood maybe once a year, once every other year. If that should happen, we will assist in hauling gear. There is higher ground for tents to be set up if need be. There will also be rooms available to rent in the near future. Phoenixville is home to a great farmers market on Saturday mornings and numerous festivals. Also, close-by is the lovely quaint village of Kimberton, home of the best organic grocery store and many opportunities for hiking and small farms.

The other site is more secluded, past the tree line, but a further walk from where you are able to park. [Hillside] If needed, we are happy to lend you a wagon to haul your gear. Please let us know if you have questions and your preference of site. We have a cabin-like bathroom and partial kitchen you will have access to during your stay. We always have cold water available for purchase in the fridge. There is trail access easily accessible from our home (the closest is approximately 1 mile), for paved or natural trail exploration. We are are a great stopping point for cyclists enjoying the area. It's a short drive to downtown Phoenixville with some of the best breweries around. Phoenixville is home to a great farmers market on Saturday mornings and numerous festivals. Also, close-by is the lovely quaint village of Kimberton, home of the best organic grocery store and many opportunities for hiking and small farms.

This campsite provides a great location to use as a base for day hikes. The tent site is situated beneath a canopy of two large Red Oak trees. This property was formerly a farm and has since grown back to a pioneer Hardwood Forest. There are stone rows throughout the farm and some areas that have been cleared of invasive vegetation and planted with native grasses to enhance the deer population. We suggest day hikes such as Catfish Fire Tower, Van Campen's Glen, and Buttermilk Falls. Here's a list of our recommendations for hiking, fishing, and just plain old exploring: The Delaware Water Gap National Recreational Area (DWG) and nearby Walpack Fish and Wildlife Management Area in Layton have many hiking trails (See the National Park Service's website). Great areas for sightseeing, hiking, biking, fishing, hunting. Buttermilk Falls, (trailhead on) Mountain Road in Layton. Hike to the top of the beautiful waterfalls near Walpack and take a 6.8 mile loop trail to Crater Lake. Walpack Inn, National Park Service Rd 615, Layton. A beautiful restaurant with an entire back wall of windows with a view of the Kittatinny Valley. The Walpack is open on weekends for dinner only. Appalachian Trail (AT). Check out the AMC Mohican Outdoor Center located along the trail in Blairstown. The AT runs through the DWG. \ Long Pine Pond amp; Crater Lake in Walpack. Both are spring fed and great for swimming and boating (clear water). Van Campen's Glen, Old Mine Road, Hardwick. The 2.1 mile loop trail features several cascades and waterfalls, a narrow stone valley, and a lush hemlock ravine. Catfish Fire Tower, Millbrook Road, Hardwick. A rocky 2.0 or longer 4.4 mile hike to the top of the ridge. Great views on NJ and PA. Also check out "Hiking Our Preserves" on the Ridge and Valley Conservancy's website for information on 4 local hiking trails. Delaware River- Great for swimming, boating, tubing, canoeing, fishing. Keep your eye out for Bald Eagles! White Lake - 97 Stillwater Rd. Hardwick, NJ 07825. The Paulinskill (Blairstown) and FlatBrook (Old Mine Road, Hardwick) rivers are local spots for trout fishing. On Saturdays during the summer, you may want to try out the Blairstown Farmers Market on Stillwater Road. Hours 9:30 to 1:00 pm.

Lovely place for a peaceful retreat for a chilly November weekend, even with a 5 year old. Sandy and John were such kind and welcoming hosts. The red cabin is an updated church camp cabin, with electric radiators and a modern wood stove for heat, a pretty cool composting toilet (indoor), sink+shower, simple kitchen with induction stove, and 2 bedrooms with linens and towels. Our 5-year old loved the tree house, fairy house, labyrinth, meditation stations, boat and Pooh's house and library. And we got really good at shuffleboard! Would definitely recommend and would like to go back.

Fantastic stay! The farm is amazing and site #3 was beautiful. We had the perfect weekend. Host was very friendly and the communication was great! We felt very welcome. Hawk Mountain Sanctuary is just a few minutes away and the site itself is nicely set up, very quiet and private with a picturesque view of the mountain. Highly recommend! We are already looking forward to returning.

Our girls camping trip to Camp Dietrich this weekend was amazing. Scott met us upon arrival and gave us a full rundown of the campground! The checkpoint shed had everything we needed, wood was ready to buy, and the Coleman stove made cooking every meal so easy. The creek beside our campsite was absolutely magical, and yes, I even took a cold plunge. The tent was super spacious, comfy bunk beds, and the heater kept us warm all night. We hiked to the waterfalls on-site, which were unreal. Already counting down to bringing the kids this summer. Highly recommend, 10/10.

The Cabin with No Name exceeded every expectation we had. The awesome book selection, incredibly comfortable bed, the amazing shower, the vast land of trails behind it all paired with quirky/cozy decor are only a few of the warm takeways from this experience. 2 nights at Camp Dietrich on Bear Creek

My boyfriend, dog, and I stayed for two nights at “a creek runs through it” and had a wonderful time. Scott was incredibly friendly and helpful. If you forgot to pack something, there’s a good chance you can borrow it from the check point shed. The site itself was gorgeous and very private. You really can “be one with nature” here. I look forward to visiting again once it warms up, to fully take advantage of the creek and some swimming. Highly recommend this place. Thank you to the Dietrich’s for a wonderful experience!

Weekend Trip to Peace & Quiet by the River!

This is our second year staying at Susan's Christmas Tree Farm campsite! and we'll be back again! I think going late October almost insures you'll have the whole place to yourself which makes for a really peaceful and relaxing stay... probably a little too cold for some but I love the cold! Campsite is always prepared and clean, stocked with your (pre-purchased) firewood, water and a sink to clean dishes and a cool little port-a-potty! The view of Hawk Mountain is incredible especially with a lit night sky and the moon! last year we hiked Hawk Mountain and this year we hiked a bit of the Appalachian Trail only couple miles form the campsite. My favorite local place for beers and a burger is McKeansburg Hotel and Tavern great bartender, service and friendly local hangout! I highly recommend this place!
