Weekend Trip to Private Forest Campsite

Absolutely love this site! This site was super private with hiking around the property, great views, and even a compostable toilet! Beth set up a geocache shortly before our stay and it’s amazing. Bring goodies to trade out on your exploration! Could not hear the sheep dog per previous reviews, but Beth did leave earplugs just in case. Loved the private stream and seclusion of the site from the rest of the world. 10/10, will be coming back!

3 nights at Triple D Retreat

Frank was a great host. With all the rain we ended up stuck and he was gracious and came to our rescue. This, despite us ignoring his advice on where to park the camper due to the immense rain they've been having. This was our second time on his property and both have been excellent, quiet, secluded experiences. We'll be back again for sure.

4 nights at Pop's Place Camping

Pop's Place, Moose Cabin, was fantastic as were the hosts, Ed and Michelle! The cabin was pristine, clean, warm, and very well maintained. Michelle and Ed are very responsive to messages and are continuously improving camp. Although it rained all four days, we still had a great time and appreciated the hosts recommendations for rainy day activities. The shower was an added bonus and was pleasantly warm. I hope to return in the future! Thanks Ed and Michelle!

Weekend Trip to Salt Creek Camp at Sunnyvale Farm

This HipCamp is only 10 minutes from campus. It is a great option for visiting the college without having to pay crazy hotel prices! Also, the host is fabulous. This past weekend was so wet that our camper ended up getting a little stuck. Ed, the host, offered to let us leave it until it dries out or pull us out! He is so helpful and accommodating. Cannot recommend this option enough!

My husband and I enjoyed a weekend getaway at Ester’s land. It was quiet and secluded like we wanted. Having a shower and hot tub at the end of a long day of hiking was amazing. We would stay again if in the area. Thank you again!

Had a great one night stay while passing thru. Easy to find and Keith the owner was great! The bath house is close by and clean. Lots to do in the area and hope to make it back some day! The only downside is this site is right off the road but there is very little traffic.

We had such a great stay! The cabin and surroundings were amazing — peaceful, beautiful, and just what we needed for a getaway. This is a great site with plenty of room. The shelter was great. Perfect spot to watch the sunrise and the moon was fabulous. If you’re craving peace and quiet this is the place for you. There is a lot of history in the area and lots of roads to go overlanding and exploring.

2 nights at EJT Retreat

Quiet and peaceful. A minimalist dream, having a shower and a flush toilet to come back to after a long day out hiking was just the ticket for me. Also a nice soak in the hot tub was a welcome bit of luxury for my old bones. Sitting on the deck grilling my dinner listening to the spring peepers in the pond and the call of a Hawk nearby. I even woke up and got to see the blood moon and the eclipse in the middle of the night, while getting some extra time in the hot tub. Was a great couple of days and just the recharge I needed before heading back to work.

The owner was great! Greeted us and answered all our questions. The site is along a dry creek. The bathrooms were about 100 yards away. Nice and clean. Beautiful area and perfect basecamp for mountain biking and hiking.

3 nights at EJT Retreat

We enjoyed our stay at the Cabin. It's not far from town but very quiet, and feel very private. The hottub was great for relaxing after a day of hiking, and was plenty warm even when it was 20 degrees out. We'd love to come back if we are in the area again.

Weekend Trip to Appalachian Retreat

My partner is writing this review on my behalf since she has stayed at this cabin before and can compare trips: I was so excited to be able to come back and spend some more time in this cabin to see what a cold weather stay would be like, and it did not disappoint. In spite of the fact that the temperatures dropped to a chill factor of about 20, my partner and I stayed warm and cozy inside on account of the wood stove. It’s a small one, and if you start with a cold cabin it will take about an hour or two to reach a comfortable room temperature, but after that we only needed to feed it once in a while to keep the fire going. It burned all the way down overnight while we slept, but the cabin was still a little warm inside when we woke up the next morning. These are close quarters and perfect for a romantic getaway for two. Other than the small birds visiting the feeders, the area was extremely quiet and peaceful. We didn’t hear a soul. It was cold enough that we didn’t get a chance to walk about the property, but we were in the mood to stay cuddled up inside anyway. Just FYI, the composting toilet doesn’t work at these temperatures, so you have to improvise …we kept a bucket inside for #1 during the night.

The Four Seasons Farm

We are a working 11 acre small farm with greenhouses, chickens, fainting goats. We are a horse friendly camp, the entire camping area is fenced in with an outdoor arena for barrel racing and poles, and an outdoor round pen for any training needs. Appalachian Retreat

Located in the rolling Appalachian hills of Southeast Ohio. This farm has been in our family since 1869 when our relatives settled here from Germany. This particular location was originally a home site for my grandfather's sister, Lizzie. Originally farmed for cattle and sheep with many orchards over the years our property is now mostly mature forest. Southeast Ohio, including our property is known for its hilly topography and microclimates. Hills range from 400 to 1,000 feet. On our property you will find dry ridges with tree species like Chestnut Oak or humid valleys that resemble a moss-covered temperate rain forest from the pacific northwest. Much of our property has now reached late stage mature forests with an open understory. Nearly 500 acres of land with an additional 200+ acres of Wayne National Forest adjacent to our farm and close proximity to other Wayne areas for outdoor activities. We have nearly 10 miles of available trails for hiking. Many activities can be done at or centered around our property such as excellent and challenging road biking, mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, kayaking and boating. We are about one mile from the Little Muskingum river. A great river for kayak trips. The Wayne Kinderhook horse and hiking trail is roughly 5 miles from our location. Hike to the Irish Run Natural Land bridge trail also a short drive to the trailhead from our property. Riding your motorcycle up Rt. 26 is great! A great Ohio byway for scenic driving. This is also a great home base for dual sport or adventure bike motorcycle riders to camp while adventuring along gravel roads through Appalachia. If motorcycles aren't your method of entertainment and travel. Bring your horse and ride on several of our trails. From steep ascents to long flat ridge lines, you will have lots of time to immerse yourself with nature while hiking. We're next to a section of the Wayne National Forest and a short drive to other similar Wayne activities. It's a great place to hear a whip-poor-will sing on a spring night while stargazing as you see a satellite zip past in the sky. If you like to camp, but don't want the busy public park experience then you will enjoy the privacy of our camping location. Camp at our main site along the forest edge near the country backroad with a fire ring and mowed grassy area or there are also several backwoods primitive camp sites available for someone who wants to rough it. We are also only about a 20-minute drive to downtown Marietta. Where you can find restaurants, bars, and many other fun activities.

Blue Dog Bike Camp

Our little campground began as Bailey Wayne Bike Camp. In 2023 we learned that Wayne National Forest wanted to drop "Wayne" from its name, so we decided to rename our campground and campsites in memory of Raleigh and Blue, two wonderful dogs who we wish were still with us. This area was once a booming coal mining town in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The hollow was made up of hundreds of company homes, several mines, and other company buildings. As the mines died, the forest slowly took over. In the 1980s the National Forest began acquiring ownership. Today, we are just a stone's throw from the new Baileys Trail System. My wife and I have been biking for years; we've spent a lot of time camping and biking in OH, KY, WV, and NC. We primarily ride gravel routes on our tandem mountain bike around Athens and Washington Counties in Ohio. Our property is 3 acres, which offers enough room to open up a couple primitive campsites so we can share the peacefulness of the forest.

There is 25 acres here and you are welcome to use it for your enjoyment. We do have fencing to keep our horses in so please we ask to not climb over the fences as they will shock you as they are electric. The wildlife you may see include squirrels, deer and racoons fox etc. Located 2 miles from interstate 70 for easy access. NewConcord is just 3 1/2 miles down the road and is the home town of John Glenn you can visit his home place there, or pick up grocerys. The Campsite at Dragonfly Lake

The Campsite at Dragonfly is located on a secluded and private 20 acres in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. The campsite is a 1000 ft hike from the parking area. The campsite includes a fire ring and firewood and a nearby chemical toilet. There are various water sport activities like fishing, kayaking, or paddle boating and plenty of hiking trails to explore the great outdoors! This is a nature lovers paradise... enjoy watching ducks, geese, blue heron, egrets, hawks, varieties of turtles, largemouth bass, catfish, bluegill, deer and many more animals. Please note that this hike is up and down a decent grade, so please plan accordingly and take this in consideration if any one in your party has physical limitations. During your stay you are welcome to enjoy the lake, we have kayaks, pedal boat, jon boat and stand up paddle boards located at the floating dock on the dam. You are welcome to use them all, weather permitting, just please return them to their proper place and in the same condition you found them in. The lake is deep so please make sure to keep any non-swimmers safe with the use of flotation devices. If you plan to fish you are welcome to bring your own fishing gear. The lake is stocked with bluegill, large-mouth bass, and catfish but it is nature so you may find other species that we don’t know about! We also provide firewood so you don't have to worry about packing it!!! Other things you will probably want to pack for your stay include: Sturdy shoes for walking to your camp site and exploring the trails. Please ask to see what is available/restricted during your stay. Flashlights/Headlamps for navigating outside after dark Bug spray Jacket/long pants (it can get chilly in the evenings in the spring and fall) Frequent questions and answers: *Can you drive up and park by the campsite - No, The camp site is a short 1000 ft hike from the parking area *How do you get your things to the camp site - Pack light... there is a hand cart to transport things up and down the hill. *Will there be other people on the property... there are two cabins on the other side of the lake... we have made every effort in layout and design of the property to maximize seclusion and privacy and the vast majority of our guest appreciate and are respectful of it. *Are there shared common areas and things - The lake is private and shared by the guest of the cabins... boats and life jackets are shared and are to be returned to the main dock area at the dam. *Can we swim in the lake - We have made no accommodations for swimming... it is a muddy bottom lake... We are constantly upgrading our property and completing projects to help improve our beautiful piece of land.
