3 nights at Private Forest Campsite

The most perfect camping experience. Felt secluded and in the middle of a forest, without being completely disconnected. I had cell service the whole time and felt very safe, especially camping alone. Beth was an amazing host and was just a text away. If you’re feeling like camping on your own to escape real life for a little bit, this is where you want to go.

Weekend Trip to Trothwood Forest

Really enjoyed tent camping here. The hiking trails around the property were well kept and easy to follow. Found a waterfall I had no idea was nearby. The campsite was easy to find and I enjoyed the walk to it, made it feel very isolated which is what I was hoping for. The host was super nice and offered to get me anything from the gas station in town if I forgot anything. Highly recommend!

Weekend Trip to Private Forest Campsite

Absolutely love this site! This site was super private with hiking around the property, great views, and even a compostable toilet! Beth set up a geocache shortly before our stay and it’s amazing. Bring goodies to trade out on your exploration! Could not hear the sheep dog per previous reviews, but Beth did leave earplugs just in case. Loved the private stream and seclusion of the site from the rest of the world. 10/10, will be coming back!

Weekend Trip to Big Laurel Ranch

The land (both forest and pasture) was beautiful and the hiking was spectacular! The hosts were very friendly and happy to help out when I needed something. I would absolutely return in the future

Weekend Trip to Trothwood Forest

Headed up to Trothwood Forest for a winter camping trip this past weekend (Feb. 21-23) and hiking at nearby Zaleski State Forest with a buddy. We booked the Whispering Pines site. Site was clean, well-maintained, and the log benches and firepit with attached cooking spit and grate were a nice convenience with the snow covered ground. Jim the host was great, responded very fast, and was very helpful especially since I got turned around when I first arrived and went the wrong way!! I messaged him and he had someone come out to help show me the site and the right path almost immediately (Tip: if you park at the flagpole, head straight in with the house on your right and you'll see the marked site signs). The sites are well-marked with signs on the path and the pines were beautiful. The path to get to the sites was wide and maintained. Whispering Pines was perfect for a hammock with the tree spacing and we luckily had two clear nights and a beautiful view of the stars above the pines with no light pollution. It got down to 8 degrees the first night and stayed around 15 the second night but the site was well-sheltered from the wind and we only felt a slight breeze which made it better with the cold temps! The site had cellular service the whole time too. We would definitely book again and recommend it. Also, if you're in the area, shout out to Mama Renie's in nearby McArthur which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner and great pizza when you've been hiking all day!

The farm and campsite was beautiful. We visited in the winter and there was snow on the ground which added to the scene. Getting there was easy and they are willing to help haul your gear back to the campsite. Site was very private and relaxing.

A beautiful secluded campsite, very quiet and peaceful. Farm animals and a small fishing pond, and trails in the woods, were great attractions for kids. Beth is the Best! She is very accommodating and helpful. Oh, BTW, you need to bring chairs.

From our parking area, our private campsite is a short walk (3-4 minutes) by way of a well maintained footpath which leads you alongside a farm pasture, to a wooded trail that empties on to a level forest understory ideal for your hammock or tent. Our campsite is equipped with the necessities: a firepit with a removable grill, a table, your own private outhouse, and unlimited sights and sounds of nature. Trails leading from the campsite will usher you short distances to one of our best stargazing hilltops, to the shallow creek which runs alongside the campsite, through shaded forests and ridgetop views. Our pond, a short 7 minute hike, offers fishing, swimming or simply relaxing on the dock. For longer hikes, all trails connect to our larger network of maintained trails winding over hill and dale, through shaded forests and open (mowed) pasture trails offering the hiker farm-life views across our 80 acres. To make your packing lighter and your stay more comfortable, we offer the following "extra items" at an additional cost. Enjoy our private paradise with over 800 feet of riverfront on 17 acres along the banks of the beautiful Ohio River. We have a great landing for fishing, swimming, or kayaking. The sunsets are fantastic and the night sky incredible! Behold the barges passing by on the river as you unwind and relax in the peacefulness of nature! This is a primitive camp with three sites available for you to consider. We are dog friendly and allow all supervised, friendly dogs to be off leash. Some things to know: We will provide a key code close to your arrival time so you can enter the gate by the road. If you are coming by river, we will put a flag on our landing. You can drive your vehicle right down to the sites. The farm is flat and easily navigated as long as it is dry. There will be a 5 gallon cooler of potable water for you to use. More water is available if we are at the property. We have 2 outhouses located on either end of the property. This is a primitive camp. Please pack out all your trash and leave no trace. 2 kayaks with paddles and life jackets are available for an additional fee, but we need ample notice. Firewood is plentiful by the river in the form of driftwood. We have some wood under a black tarp by the pavilion fire pit available for an additional fee. We have one neighbor who can make some noise with ORVs especially on weekends.
