3 nights at Redeemers Ridge Retreat

Slice of heaven! Quiet and beautiful views. Owners were caring and friendly. The sites were so well thought out. I appreciated all the detail that went into making this property a unique and beautiful place to stay. Just look around and you can see how much time and money was spent. The site itself is level, trash can available, firewood available, clean beautiful rock to park on, beautiful wood chairs on red stone, open property for the dog to run, enchanting pine tree forest and full hookup. Be prepared for a decent amount of wind because you are on a mountain.

Definitely enjoyed our stay. Nice large shaded spot. The dogs enjoyed all the trails on the property. The host are wonderful will definitely stop back when in the area.

Weekend Trip to Secluded Retreat

We spent a few nights on Vinny and Donna's land camping in a 38-foot travel trailer. This was our second trip here. The location, scenery, and natural beauty are second to none. Finding one camp spot in a secluded area is a fairly odd anomaly that we LOVE. Accessing the land is super easy. Neat things and stores are nearby, but you can't see or hear anything but nature from the site. Troutland Lane is skinny for even one car in spots, but we had zero problems navigating with and without the camper. Turning into the land was a little tight, but it was clearly marked, and even with a 38-foot travel trailer and crew cab truck, we had no problems entering or leaving. We just took our time to make sure we didn't leave unnecessary tracks or damage. The hosts are some of the kindest we have run across. They reached out by text ahead of time to check in and provide important reminders, didn't interfere with us while we were there, and had a personal check-in afterwards to make sure we were happy. We knew they were nearby if needed. Can't beat that! The land and seclusion here are beyond words. We kept the windows and doors open most of the trip, without fear of campers seeing or stealing anything. Better yet, we got to see the beautiful scenery the whole time. This is one of those places you hate to leave a good review for because it's like a special fishing hole you don't want anyone else to find. However, this is simply our favorite spot and is simply awesomeness.

Great spot. Great host. Awesome like hang in northern NC. Great access to places like hanging rock, Mt Airy, pilot mountain and more. Looking forward to going back when the tubes start running. We stayed in the primitive side but it was nothing short of perfect. A1 minute drive or home for five had you at the mill house and showers and bathrooms. Host was incredibly helpful. Informed is if some upcoming events that would be a dam (sic) shame to miss. Definitely with your time if you're interested in picking up a spot here. 12/10 will be back again.

This is a rustic experience which is exactly what I was looking for. The sound of the water from the river and the dam close by was soothing and helped me get to sleep. There was nobody camping down by the water, so I wandered down there and sat in this idyllic spot for a while. I bought a wheelbarrow of firewood, but if you do this in advance be aware that it's a bit of trek to go to the mill, bring back the firewood, return the wheelbarrow, and then walk back to the camp. For those not used to mountain travel or new drivers please know that travel off NC 18 on the state road is a typical two lane paved mountain road with curves, some of which will require you to swing wide, an incline that does not exceed 8% in a couple of places, a short state maintained gapped section of gravel and an occasional low hanging branch. Caution: Wildlife present in the area including bear, bobcat, deer, turkey.

Jessup Mill

Hi there. Here is a little rundown of everything we do at the mill…. So, as far as camping, there are two main options on either side of the river; the mill yard or primitive camping across the river. In the mill yard, we do festival style camping, meaning that there are no individual campsites per se, but rather a large grassy lawn near the mill and bathhouse with shared fire pits, picnic tables, charcoal grill, and sinks for water/dishes. We also have two platforms up in the woods that are good for a little more privacy and are completely shaded, but do require a small climb up the hill. The bathhouse has three restrooms and hot showers in each. Across the river, there are several more primitive sites that are generally very private and offer great sounds coming from the river and waterfall, but no facilities. Most sites are car accessible, and a 5 minute walk back over to the mill (or a 1 minute drive). Lastly, our newest camping spot on the primitive side is a river front beach right by the dam with space for a several medium sized tents and a private fire pit. The beach is hike-in only (2-3 minutes along a mostly flat trail). Our normal rate is $10 per person per night. Firewood is available for $10 per wheelbarrow load. We accept cash, credit card, Venmo, Paypal, and crypto. We are also fairly flexible on check in/check out times, but just let us know if you’ll be arriving at odd hours. Dogs are generally welcome as long as they are kept on leash. Here is a little rundown of tubing at the mill (May-October, weather permitting). We have two tubing options available. We have a short Fun Run that takes roughly 45 minutes, and cost $10 per person for as many rides as you’d like. The river bends sharply like a horseshoe in this section, so it makes everything accessible by foot traffic. It’s a 3 minute walk up the trail to the dam, put in and float 30-45 minutes (depending on water level), then a 5-10 minute walk back to the mill carrying your tube. There is also the longer Forks Run, which last 3-4 hours (~2.5 river miles), and costs $15. For this, we shuttle you up the river in a vehicle, and you float back to the top of the dam, then 3 minutes walking back to the mill. Most weekends, tubing starts at 11 am and the last Forks Shuttle is around 3 pm, with the Fun Run staying open till around 5. Also, with enough heads up, we can sometimes arrange for trips during the week. Our tubes are required for each person floating for insurance and liability reasons, but you are welcome to bring your own cooler tubes to carry drinks and snacks. Technically, alcohol is not permitted on the river, but what is in your cooler is your business. Either way, please bring ALL trash out with you! Water shoes are recommended, and we have life jackets on request. Most of our tubes come with bottoms and back rests, but a few are open to the water. Most weekends, reservations are not required, but it does help tremendously if we know when you want to come and how many in your group. We are about an hour drive to lots of different hiking trails from pilot mountain, and hanging rock to the blue ridge parkway. We have 2 dogs that live here and will greet you at the gate. We purchased it in 2014 and converted it into a vineyard. We have RV sites with 50 amp and 30 amp electric hookups and water, and tents sites. For 2023 our rates are $30/night for RV Sites (50 amp or 30 amp electric hookups and water) and $25/night for Tent Sites. Tent sites do not have electricity or water hookups, but water is available at the well. (Due to inflation, 2024 our rates will be $30/night for RV Sites, $25/night for Tent Sites.) We do not have a dump station, but we do have a Port A John and a list of dump stations nearby. Campfires are allowed unless we have a state issued burning ban. Campers are responsible for controlling and extinguishing fires. Please be extremely careful during dry or drought conditions.
