The property is 4.66 acres at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, only 1 mile from the largest recreation area (Doughton Park) on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Longbottom Leaves is a working permaculture homestead. We have two creeks, a (swimming) pond, an off-grid house, a cob pizza oven, a fruit-and-nut orchard, a huge vegetable garden, and over three acres of forest with walking trails through them. We are only 4 miles from Stone Mountain State Park in North Carolina. Hiking and fishing are fantastic in both Doughton Park and Stone Mountain SP, and Stone Mountain also has rock climbing routes. In addition, we are less than a 30-minute drive from about a dozen or so vineyards. Elkin NC is about 40 minutes east, Wilkesboro NC is about 40 minutes south, and the Blue Ridge Parkway is 20 minutes away. We--Emma and Jonathon--live in an off-grid cabin on the property. We both garden and write (travel- and sustainability-type stuff), and we are happy to share info about the property and stuff to do around the area.

Our beautiful, 13-acre property is the perfect mixture of woods and grassland fields, both with several walking trails to stroll around. When I moved my family of 7 here from n.e. Ohio 11 years ago we didnt know anyone at all. I am a people person, I love music and I was determined to meet some new friends. So, i decided to build a fire pit and a makeshift stage and have a party! This party was called, Friend Fest, A reason to gather and celebrate the gift of friendship. Our motto: Come as strangers, leave as friends. We were on our 9th Friend Fest until Covid. Over the last few years we have added more amenities to the property. Disc golf, Walking/ hiking trails, fishing, baseball diamond, bonfire pit, 10x14 covered stage, swimming pool, primitive glamping cabin. We also host Nature Education classes on the property. Take the opportunity to stay in a one of a kind Farm Store loft on a real working farm. Crossings is a true market farm that has been in our family for over 11 generations. While the main focus of Crossings is always to be a community farm, we love opening our home and farm to respectful visitors. The loft is over our farm store and accessed by a curved staircase (no door between) . The farm setting offers a comfy spot for someone looking for a quiet spot to relax and rest after a day exploring out and about. The cozy space it perfect for 2 people who are looking for a unique spot to get away from the hustle and bustle of their normal lives. The farm store space on the first floor is a public area that is frequented by our regular customers during the day, especially on Saturdays. We allow our Airbnb guests to lock the farm store from 6pm to 9am each night for ultimate privacy and enjoyment of the space. There is a bistro table can that be used for picking up take-out or a simple meal cooked on the wood stove or outdoor grill. The back porch is a perfect spot to enjoy a nice rock in our Troutman Co. rocking chairs while listening to the farm sounds and seeing our crew gather eggs, move the cows, or re-stock the Farm Store. Not in the mood to hike into a spot? You can pull straight into the driveway and park to the left of the farm store. Other things to note **Please note that you are staying on a working family farm. There are multiple farm animals (chickens, pigs, cows, horses, farm dogs and cats) that are in close proximity to the Farm Store. We ask that you maintain and do not go into the fenced areas, greenhouses or our barns for biosecurity. We also ask that you not feed the animals, even though they may come up to the fence. *We do have farm workers (including ourselves) who are in and round the farm all day feeding animals, tending to the garden areas, filling orders and re-stocking the farm store. All of our team will maintain social distancing, but feel free to ask any questions of them while you are here. *Saturdays are our "busier" days on the farm. Our Farm Store is "open" and staffed that day for our regular customer needs. We are normally cutting wood, moving animals, fixing fence, building structures, re-stocking the farm store, mowing and weed eating. *If you have any concerns around our Farm Loft stay, please reach out to us prior to booking so that we can answer any questions with transparency. We had a great time although we picked a "weather challenged" weekend to visit. Diane kindly offered us the small cabin instead of the dome since it was roomier and there was a high possibility of severe thunderstorms overnight. The creek was absolutely beautiful and full of skipping stones. Their dog, Bug (I think that was his name) was sweet and welcoming! My daughter's and I look forward to coming back on a less rainy and warmer weekend to explore the creek a little better!

This past weekend there was a countywide fire ban and temps dropped into the 20s overnight Darin was kind to upgrade us from a tent site to the cabin and even brought us a portable heater for the evening. What an amazing site and hospitality at its finest! It was great to let the dogs swim in the river. It was a little too cold for me when I visited in February but I will definitely be back in the warmer months. I had a camper but had a tour of the camp and all the sites were very cute. A beautiful back road mountain drive to Boone with plenty of hiking and a mtn bike park in the area.

This was the perfect get away in the middle of the woods to spend some quality time with my 9 year old Son and our dog Barney. It felt like we had the whole forest to ourselves sitting by the fire enjoying the sites and sounds of nature with a very nice little cabin and cozy bed when it was time to call it a night. The space is large enough for a couple of tents along with the cabin and we plan to come back with my wife and daughter in the spring or fall! The hosts kindly left us with a cooler, two jugs of water and everything we needed for a lovely stay! We also loved the trails and stream at the bottom of the hill! Great experience!

I had a great time at Darin & Beth's cabin. I decided to try for a last minute clamping trip for New Year's Eve. Darin was quick to answer questions, before booking and after. Darin & Beth have a beautiful space and very thoughtfully designed cabin! It made a great, quiet night for my dog and I. We stayed warm at night under the blankets on the bed, solar lights offered some light inside the cabin. The stove, fuel, fire pit, everything supports a comfortable stay. Highly recommend.

The cabin was a perfect getaway weekend for my husband and I (and our dog). It was 20 degrees outside the nights we stayed, but the cabin was warm and cozy with everything we needed. We loved hiking up to the tower and having a campfire at night. The hot tub was the best part! Stone Mountain Park is a short drive away and is one of the best parks in N.C. highly recommend!!

This was our first time booking a glamping spot on Hipcamp. Usually we do traditional camping so this was a nice treat. We will definitely be back when it’s a little warmer out. Everything you need is there! It’s so nice to have the flushing toilet and hot shower right there. Plus the little kitchen area is nicely equipped. Just be mindful of the steep driveway. Jeffrey went above and beyond to make sure we were as comfortable as possible with it being so cold out. We enjoyed Stone Mountain State Park which is right down road. Don’t hesitate to book here!

This spot was perfect to get away with our travel trailer for a few nights. Access to potable water on the other side of the field so we could fill our tank. The creek was nice, as was the fire pit. We did have to level side to side on the gravel drive, so be ready for that if you have a camper. The stars were out of this world (#dadjoke) and the place was as quiet as you could get. Wonderfully restful stay.

Where do I start with this little slice of heaven! It is perfect! Had all you needed for a weekend away on very private land with some comforts of home. We enjoyed just relaxing around the fire listening to some music. Plenty of firewood around if you bring saw/axe to forge for it. We will definitely be back to this one. RUN! HURRY! Book your dates!!! What an incredibly amazing experience this was. We were looking for a nice quiet place to get out of the hustle and bustle of city life- and this place absolutely provided that and then some. What an awesome experience. Everything was so meticulously thought out and they went above and beyond providing an awesome little getaway. It was so peaceful, quiet, and serene- While the state park was still closed due to Hurricane Helene, we had the best time trailblazing and checking out the property and swinging on the neat little swingset. I can't say enough good things about this place- so hurry, you won't regret it!!
