My wife and I moved to the area, from Boone, in the spring of 2014. Our dream was to own a house, preferably a cabin, on top of a mountain with long range views and a gradual winding road to the top. Living in Boone, this dream was definitely out of reach. When we began our search for a new home in the Asheville area, we discovered that the more affordable homes were in fact on the mountains. Perfect! In general I always have a pretty positive outlook on what’s possible, however, I was skeptical that we would ever find our dream home. As Jeannie began her Zillow browsing adventures, one particular cabin with acreage, that was outside of our budget continued to pop up. Jeannie would delete it and then it would come back. At some point the price began to drop, and drop, and drop. On our way back into town one weekend after attending a wedding, I convinced Jeannie to drive by the cabin just because we had the time. Immediately we fell in love and reached out to our realtor buddy. It was more of a shot in the dark but it couldn’t hurt, right? We held our breath for the next month totally expecting someone to get it under contract before us or the sellers not accepting our offer. It had already been reduced significantly so we knew our chances of a lowball offer were slim. We offered the most that we could get a loan for. They accepted! I still get anxious thinking back to that month, October 2014. Many years and two children later, here we are, just as excited everyday to make the long trek up our mountain as we were that August of 2014, and now we are happy to offer a similar experience to you, without having to buy the place. Justus Apple Orchard is only 10 miles down the mountain towards Hendersonville. We love taking our kids there. We are only 15 miles from downtown Asheville & Hendersonville, and 22 miles from Lake Lure. Raven ridge is a 5.0 acre property with plenty of botanical appeal, Appalachian charm and mountain views. James landed on the property in 2009, built a small dairy barn and milked 3 cows for a couple years before building the two cabins. In 2015 he was joined by Sofi, originally from Sweden and together they have three daughters. Together they manage a botanically interesting hobby hill farm and are happy to host travelers and seekers in their cabins. Hilltop was a joint project that James built in 2012 with a talented woodworker and friend in 6 months. We have maintained the original vibe of the place, rustic simplicity and elegance a notch or two above glamping, well-described by the zen koan, "chop wood, carry water" Orchard House was built entirely by James from the block up to the roof, averaging 1 hour/day for 3 years or 1,000 hours. The site's (there's only one!) first appeal is the amazing view of Bull Mountain Ridge. Beautiful all year long, but particularly in late October when the leaves are in their richest colors. It feels private and tucked away, but is very accessible to all of what the Asheville area has to offer. Downtown is a 15 minute drive; ride services and shuttles are both easy to secure and quite affordable. The backdrop of the site is forested and easy to relax in - the understory is maintained for guest use, providing cooling shade with a stunning view. I usually try to say hello to folks and make sure they get settled in alright, but let me know if you'd prefer just to come in and have privacy. Don't feel the need to come to the house unless you can't get a hold of me via text and you need assistance. Guests can check how much power they have on the generator under the kitchen countertop by hitting the display button. Electric should be sufficient but glampers will do are responsible for using the electricity responsibly so as to not drain the battery completely. There is a microwave for cooking, a charcoal grill on the deck (charcoal and grill necessities included) and a fire ring for open flame cooking. There is a hammock provided for warmer days! Please note that when temperatures dip into the teens and the single digits make sure to bring warm clothing as dome can still get a bit chilly on those nights. Also note that there is a hand washing station outside of the dome next to the port a potty however when temperatures dip into the teens and single digits the water can freeze up in the hand washing station. We do also provide hand sanitizer as a back up. The outdoor shower is only open typically from April through October. In addition, the only form of heat is a wood burning stove with starters and wood provided, so it will be your responsibility to make sure that the stove keeps burning with wood as to keep the dome warm. This most likely will entail getting up at least once a night to stoke/put wood on the fire. On very hot summer days the dome can get very warm inside. We have a high powered fan and black out curtains to help but it still can get very warm. Best to utilize the outdoor space in the late morning/early afternoon hours or use this time to explore the area. THERE IS NO AIR CONDITIONING! Also, there may be some bugs that you see. Especially stink bugs in September and October. We do our best to keep bugs out, yet this is a Glamping experience which is between camping and a typical Airbnb experience so please plan/pack/expect accordingly. Thanks!

Stayed here one night to charge up. Very quiet neighborhood with a very nice family who lives in the home. The yard was very clean with a dog run we definitely used and fire pit setup with chairs. Walking distance from Ingles and other shops. There’s a fun Farmers/Artisan market and kids park just a short walk away with an Airstream serving great coffee and other treats. Super unique little yurt camp out in the NC Blue Ridge. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for an easy glamping experience that's a very affordable way to stay in the area really nearby Little Switzerland, Linville, Grandfather mountain, etc..The property itself still feels remote as it is situated on the side of a nearby mountain. That being said, be prepared to drive carefully on the property, especially if you have a smaller car, as the drive is a bit rugged. Very doable even in our little hybrid 2 seater, but take your time in inclement weather (even in early December, we still had a lovely time, and enjoyed the tranquility). Would totally return if we come back through the area!

Sunset Ridge near Del Rio, TN is a true hidden gem perched high on a ridge with sweeping 50-mile western views of untouched American wilderness. From towering 6,000+ ft Smoky Mountain peaks to dense pine forests, deer, bears, and classic backwoods charm, this spot delivers the authentic mountain experience. Like many Hipcamp sites, you’ll drive through a few “interesting” areas to get there, but it’s absolutely worth the short detour off I-40. Hurricane Helen repair work continues in the region, so expect minor delays—but nothing that should deter your stay. The site itself is well laid out with a reliable 50-AMP hookup (30-AMP rigs should bring an adapter), two properly placed sewer connections for easy access, and a well-pump water source offering around 15–20 psi. We found that perfectly adequate for daily use, or you can fill your onboard tank and enjoy a stronger 40–50 psi via your RV’s pump. A cozy two-person swing overlooks the valley and is perfect for sunrise coffee or sunset photos. The spacious gravel circular driveway provides plenty of room for multiple vehicles and offers simple, level parking. Nights were peacefully quiet, with only the sounds of the woods around you. The paved road network above and around the property makes for great short hikes and even better sunset views. A firepit, available WiFi, and open sky complete the experience. Highly recommended for anyone seeking solitude, scenery, and Smoky Mountain magic. We will definitely be back soon.

This campground was very easy to find and right off Rt. 26. Probably the quickest access we've ever had. The temps got cold, and David was great about warning that my water hose might freeze up. It was pretty quiet at the campground, I never got the chance to speak with any of the other campers. We were there visiting relatives for Thanksgiving and this fit the bill perfectly.

We traveled as a family of 4 and two dogs and we had a wonderful time at Ocean Blue cabin. Exceptional host and cabin was amazing. We had everything and more to has such a great time. Hiking trail on the property was perfect for our young kids. We took it twice and met friendly cows on top of the hill. Hot tub was a perfect spot for after hike and evening watching the stars! We will definitely come back and bring friends with us!
