Glamping Tiny Cabin In The Smokies

4. Glamping Tiny Cabin In The Smokies

49mi from Mars Hill · 1 site · Lodging · Cherokee, NC
Camping, but comfortable! This tiny cabin is perfect for hikers, backpackers, or vacationers who enjoy the simple things in life. It’s not a luxury stay, but it is ideal for an unplugged getaway. Nestled in Cherokee, the rustic cabin offers a peaceful retreat in the Smoky Mountains—quiet and secluded, yet close to all the major attractions. It’s the perfect spot for a fall weekend glamping escape. The cabin is cozy and charming, tucked away in the Great Smokies. While the property has multiple buildings, only a few are in use, so you can enjoy a quiet vacation without the bustle of a busy campground. Inside, the cabin features one bedroom with a double bed—perfect for a couple or a solo trip. The kitchenette is equipped with a full-sized stove, oven, fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. The living room includes a couch and a desk, with a window-unit air conditioner and space heater. Extra blankets are also provided. The bathroom has a shower stall, sink, and toilet. Right across from the cabin is an outdoor area we call the grotto, complete with a fire pit and a small stream. Guests are welcome to relax and enjoy this space during their stay. The cabin has history, too! It was originally used to house workers building Fontana Dam and was moved to this property in the 1980s. Though it shows some cosmetic imperfections, it provides a unique camping experience without the noise of a large campground or the inconvenience of walking to a bathhouse. Please Note: • The cabin does not have a TV or reliable Wi-Fi. • The cabin does not have central heat, but a space heater and extra blankets are provided. • Located in the woods, wildlife visitors are common. As the weather cools, spiders and insects may try to come inside. Please notify us right away if this happens. • The cabin is rustic but has all the basics needed for a mountain getaway. • Cell service may be spotty; Verizon and AT&T work best in this area.

Waldhaus Resort is a special place surrounded by the Pisgah National Forrest. Pure nature close to a thriving metropolitan area. We offer the Sawmill and the Summit!I have been an engineer, corporate executive and world traveler all my life. Born and raised in Switzerland I speak German, French, English and a little Spanish. My passion is the outdoors, hunting, fishing and cooking . My other calling is to entertain people which share the same passions. That’s why I created the Waldhaus resort.During the past years, the Sawmill has become my favorite place to spend quality time in what I call "Cabin Living" which I love so much. Nearly every day there is a small challenge, nothing comes easy, but all the coziness and comfort is there.  The water is supplied by a spring above the mill. Electricity is generated by solar technology and a generator. All refrigeration and cooking appliances are propane; and so is the basic heat (propane again) - and a very old Jotul wood stove will do the rest. I sleep a lot on the day bed in the living room so the Sawmill can be comfortably rented for up to 4 guests. The outhouse is a thing of the past, just recently I installed a compositing toilet besides the bedroom. We also offer The Summit which is a high elevation, 2-story cabin surrounded by national forest which has evolved into an off-grid living and play space located at nearly 3300 feet elevation on a 1/2 acre flat with an incredible view. There are very private old forest service trails leading directly into the Pisgah National Forest.

Raven ridge is a 5.0 acre property with plenty of botanical appeal, Appalachian charm and mountain views. James landed on the property in 2009, built a small dairy barn and milked 3 cows for a couple years before building the two cabins. In 2015 he was joined by Sofi, originally from Sweden and together they have three daughters. Together they manage a botanically interesting hobby hill farm and are happy to host travelers and seekers in their cabins. Hilltop was a joint project that James built in 2012 with a talented woodworker and friend in 6 months. We have maintained the original vibe of the place, rustic simplicity and elegance a notch or two above glamping, well-described by the zen koan, "chop wood, carry water" Orchard House was built entirely by James from the block up to the roof, averaging 1 hour/day for 3 years or 1,000 hours. Some of the Hilltop photos are a bit dated, we have a more private outhouse behind the cabin, and have made a few improvements here and there. Reach out anytime for any reason. We love hosting and nearly everyone enjoys their stay.

(The hike in is steep... about 300 ft but takes less than 5 minutes) We have a cooler up there for any perishables you may have, just bring ice :) Please note: We have to close the outdoor heated shower during the cold winter months, however we provide an all season 5 gallon solar shower bag to use during this time. We also have a list at the cabin of other places nearby that provide hot showers in the winter months for a small fee. In the rare event that heavy snow is expected, we will have to close the road leading up to the cabin because of its steepness. If this occurs, you will be given a full refund for the cancellation. To heat the cabin, there is a un-vented wall mounted heater that heats the space really well! Since the cabin is insulated, the heater works quick to heat the small area up so you will stay nice and cozy!

If you're looking to escape to the mountains, look no further! Wild Ridge Trail is a place where you can come to unwind, relax, and take in the fresh air of our N.C. mountains! We are located only 10/15 minutes from all of the exciting things Asheville has to offer and just as close to the charming small town of Black Mountain! The cabin at wild ridge is OFF GRID (meaning no power or running water) but I promise, with our solar panels and rain collection system you won't miss being ON the grid at all! The cabin and the drive (or hike) up was designed for the adventurous at heart! So, drive on up if you have 4WD or AWD and if you don't, no worries! Just park in the designated space, grab your gear and hike on up!
