2 nights at Oak Grove Retreat

This is truly a peaceful, beautiful place to camp and just be. The owners and everyone there are welcoming and helpful, they will treat you like family. Everything is so well thought out, including environmentally conscious facilities, places to meditate, a nature trail, and lots of fun, hippie art. The chapel is the best part, especially the light coming through the windows and the drums. Definitely planning on coming back, with more people next time. It truly feels like sacred ground.

Staff was very welcoming and helpful. Fire wood was provided and they even escorted us to our campsite. Campsite was clean and debris free and was overall pretty peaceful.

The men were so excited when we pulled up to our spot (#5)!! We had a great view, fairly easy access for the kids to get in the river, and privacy. Some other spots (2-3, I think) were open and would be great for a huge group, because there was no privacy between them. I didn’t notice in reviews or site details that were was a private potty tent. So that was a pleasant surprise. The wood they provided was good burning wood. We peeked in on the yurt. That looks really cool for cold weather! Overall, a great place, with lots of campsite options! We would definitely come back!!

Camping here was easy! Having a campsite by the river was wonderful. The firewood was a bonus. We had no trouble finding our site and Billy even checked in to be sure we were good. We did, however have noisy neighbors at next site that ran a generator until midnight. After it died, it was so peaceful. Would visit again!

Very nice and private site right on the water! Perfect for hammocking and relaxing. Saw a lot of wildlife and the sounds at night will put you right to sleep. Porta potty was nearby and stocked with toilet paper. Purchased some bundles of wood from the main office and they burned nicely. Would definitely recommend and come back!

Location is perfect. You are right on the river. Sites were very clean. Ground is level for a tent. It is very quiet through the night. Very comfortable and relaxing. The portable toilets have a lot of hugs though. Only complaint. Everything else was a dream.

I enjoyed my stay on Nikki’s camping land so much, secluded, peaceful & such a beautiful view! We indulged in the kayaking adventure Billy was great with directions, helping with our activity & providing us with whatever we needed for our stay. I would definitely come again & can’t wait for my next visit!

Nice location right on the river. Small pop up tents for bathrooms. Only problem for us was we found the campsites to be little on the small side and close together. However it is close to our and we would go back for a quick overnight or weekend trip.

I have enjoyed the pleasure of Contessa’s beautiful property several times. It is so peaceful and they go out of their way to accommodate each and every guest. It is very well maintained and everyone I have met that is camping love it. It’s my go to place that I know I can just relax, feel safe and enjoy the sound of the ducks and watch the Eagles fly over the lake. I hope to return a couple of times each year. The wildlife I have enjoyed on my visits are, Eagles, Ducks, Wild Turkeys and a beautiful Buck Deer crossing the dam at dawn.

Absolutely enjoyed our stay! The owners were very accommodating and helpful!! We stayed at sunset cove site 1 with our dog, the view was beautiful and the site was very private which we were also able to go fishing off of which was amazing! We will definitely be back soon!

We had a great weekend! Site #5 was perfect for us. It's hard to beat a quiet weekend by the river. This campground offers plenty of room to roam and explore. We did a little hiking but also passed the time on the river bank relaxing. Nikki and Billy were helpful via messages and the site was easy to find and clean when we arrived. They had a camp toilet set up for our site and firewood had already been delivered. We'll be back!

I loved the covered wagon! We stayed in Swamp Rose The preview pictures were spot on, clean, spacious, heater/AC, mini fridge, mini microwave, coffee, hot chocolate, hot tea, 4 bottles of water, smores, towels ! It was so fun! We built a fire, toasted the smores , talked with the neighbors The rest rooms were clean and spacious Checking in and out was a breeze

The hosts were great! Always checking on things to see if we needed anything. Very friendly. Let us know about locals stores ahead of time. Very quick and communicative with plans at the lake and the area. The cabins on the property are adorable. The view was sooo beautiful. Plenty of hiking to go see other beautiful sites around the whole lake. Even saw an otter...so cute! Met Tail...the sweet local kitty. It was such a great way to spend our Thanksgiving. Would definitely love to come back!

Back to the basics, come and experience Tar River Life’s primitive camping on the Tar River. Enjoy being on the river and listening to slow running sound of the Tar River. Bring your own tent or rent one of ours. You can drive your vehicle to all of our campsites. The drive to camp is about 1/2 miles. Each site includes a fire pit, wood and trash bin. Cook your own meals or try and catch your own fish from the river. Campsites can be secluded or grouped. Each site comes with a picnic table, 1 bundle of wood and trash can. Stay for a night or longer period of time, come and enjoy the outdoors with us. We have lots of walking trails, fishing access, wildlife, kayaking and tubing (must be purchased through us). 2WD vehicles are ok except during wet conditions. There is also the Vollmer Farm, with seasonal produce a Full Coffee Shop with breakfast goodies and baked goods and not to mention their fabulous ice cream. They have goods from around NC including, eggs, honey, meats, beers, wine and more. There is a grocery store (Food Lion) about 15 minutes away. So you can stock up on supplies on your way to your next adventure. We are pet friendly!

Rated Finalist for Top Hipcamp in 2023 and 2024! This is a Family Venue! No Parties and/or drunknesses allowed. We strive to create an environment for nature viewing, stargazing, fishing, and unwinding in nature as camping should be. the historic pond was originally much smaller. We have records that date back to our 6th Great-Grandfather, Joab Fountain, who received a royal grant from the crown in 1773 for the property and then just a grist mill, blacksmith shop and old general store. The property was passed down through the Fountain family until the late 1910's. Originally a creek dammed up for the purpose of the mill it was later dug out in the late 1940's by Lee Baysden. In a long story (that can soon be found on our website/blog) the land was auctioned off in 2007. This landowner dug it out and made it the 22-acre lake that it is today. The property also features 2 smaller ponds and surrounded by woods, swamp, and farmed fields, a total of 84 acres. Divided by Duplin and Onslow County line making it very unique! Chinquapin, NC The store/office is the original detached kitchen from his homeplace, which is the white house just up the street. We still use this today and it has Mr. Lee Baysden's handwriting in the store that states opened June 1956. The pond was owned and fished until the late 1990's. A hurricane damaged the dam and land was sold sometime after. The next owner dug the pond into the lake it is today and fixed the dam. In 2020 My husband Tyler, and I decided to buy the Pond when we saw the signs up for sale in the height of the pandemic. We created JCO, Juniper Creek Outfitters and Guide Service, fall 2020 and began to restore the lake and land to better than ever! We introduced our first Glamping A-Frame cabin in 2021 and in 2024 the Floating Cabin. We host community events such as fishing tournaments, fireworks, music, movie nights, and food trucks. We also host special occasions in the cabins from engagements, honeymoons, birthdays anniversaries. Youth groups and scouts also welcome. Ask about special pricing. Our camp office/store is opened most weekends or by check-in requests and fishing passes available 7 days a week online from sunrise-dark. Our lake features fishing for Bass, Crappie, Bream, Catfish, Bowfin, varieties of Panfish, and more. Let us know if you catch one so we can record it! We are continually trying to make JCO and Lee Baysden Pond a great place in our community for friends and families! Saint Anne's Chapel and Oak Grove Retreat Center is a unique historical venue for your next camp site in the Tarboro area of North Carolina. The farm was originally established in 1832 by the Pender Family. On the current 25 acres is a restored 1920s Episcopal Mission Church with parklike grounds that is maintained year-round and has a rich and interesting history. We have host a wide variety of events over the years, including weddings, receptions, meetings, retreats, drum circles, sound healing's, festivals and more. Camping is available in the field or in the 17 acre woods. Learn more about this land: Welcome to Oak Grove - a property with a 100 year old de-consecrated Episcopal church, beautiful woods, and amazing grandfather oaks. A common site for weddings, drum circles, and other metaphysical and spiritual happenings, the property has a labyrinth, a free expression chalkboard, a Zen sand box that are free to use. A short walk down the wooded trail brings you to a small clearing with a central fire pit and several areas suitable for a tent. Situated close to a road, traffic can be heard but easily tuned out, particularly as the road gets much quieter at night. The woods are next to a large open field that is great for star gazing. Our little private campground is a hidden jewel in the making. Each campsite is private. We are not a parking lot like so many campgrounds are these days. We are still currently working on infrastructure but are willing to host campers that are self sufficient at a reduced rate for now. We do have a fun play ground, hiking trails, a steam we lovingly named Alligator Gore (to keep the little ones out of the mud). We are pet friendly. Each site has a fire ring or fire pit. We have a full bathroom available. We have a small camp store. We have group camp sites, pull through RV / Camper sites and a few glamping cabins. Located only 40 minutes from the NC coast and much more affordable and less crowded. We are still growing so we do not have a pool yet but will have one in the future. We do have a kids and youth program with weekly crafts and other activities. Picnic tables are available on some sites. Almost across the street is a wonderful boat ramp and fishing spot on the Cape Fear River. Canoe down to a sand bank about a mile down river and have a romantic picnic. A Celtic themed restaurant, the Mad Boar, is just a 10 minute drive if you are looking for a unique farm to table experience. And Duplin Winery is just 15 minutes away with tastings and tours. Located just 10 minutes from I-40 off US 41 we are easily found. A diamond in the rough.

The Cozy Heron Glamping

Just a quick 2 minute walk from your covered wagon will also bring you to an on-site restaurant and bar: The Riverside Restaurant & Bar. The Riverside has a full bar, delicious, stone-fired pizza, smashed burgers, fresh salads and sandwiches, and more! They may also have live music performances throughout the spring and summer months. Raven Rock State Park is just a 15 minute drive away. Surrounding towns like Fuquay-Varina, Angier, and Holly Springs offer more shops and restaurants if Lillington doesn't have enough for you! Raleigh and all of its nightlife, museums, and markets is just 45 minutes away from The Cozy Heron Glamping.
