1 night at Mountain Riders Riverfront Camping

This was my second time here, I loved setting up my tent by the water again. The views of the mountains are beautiful, and lots of fireflies come out at dusk. The other sites are far enough away to have some privacy, and you can park your car in the grass right on the site. I was actually switched over to site 9 on the end, which was closer to the front bathhouse. I definitely felt safe camping solo, and Ed was kind enough to reach out and make sure to give me directions and a code to the bathhouse.

Beautiful, very secluded, very peaceful spot for relaxing, meditating, and realigning yourself. Liz is a great host and a great healer. I definitely recommend a reiki and meditation session with her while you're there.

3 nights at Winding Stair Campground

What a great place to stay for a weekend! Was closed to the town to visit and tour around, but also the location was great just to enjoy! Got to visit their farm and loved the mill. The bathrooms were well stocked and very clean. Having a shower was great, especially if your kids play in the river as much as ours did. Would highly recommend this place. We plan on coming back in the future.

I was really pleased with this peaceful spot on the creek. The hammock was a great touch and the fire pit setup made it easy to relax without bringing a lot of gear. Bathrooms were super clean and easy to access. Loved the goats and walking trails—felt private but still close to town. Would definitely come back.

4 nights at Magical Mountain Resorts

We absolutely LOVED Magical Mountain Resorts! The entire property was fun, clean, and well-kept. The attention to detail that was provided all throughout the property was incredible. The dozen or so petting zoo animals were enjoyable and their paddock was kept so clean. The creek and the decorations, games, sandbox, and swings around it were so delightful for our young children who played until well past dark each night. The bath house was always in beautiful order. Truly could not have had a better experience and we will definitely return here whenever we make it to this part of NC again!

Site 9 is a great secluded spot on the property over looking the farm and mountains. It was fun walking down to the river to swim, fish, or wade in. Love staying at Smokey Mountain Mangalista Farm!

What a great find! Beautiful setting with wildflowers growing in the fields! The bathrooms are amazing. Very clean & great water pressure. RV spots are nice and level. Easy access to the place. Close to town.

2 nights at Tumbling Waters Campground & Trout

Established some 80 years ago, the buildings give a great Summer Camp vibe to us Gen Xers and Boomers. This small, 20 site campground has what appears to be several long term campers, a couple pull through sites, 4-5 back-in sites by the stream, and a couple cabins as well. The bath house is clean, there are laundry machines and a pavilion type area with grills, sinks, fish cleaning station, toys and games, foosball, drinks for sale...many nice and unexpected amenities. Firewood also for sale. A dirt basketball court, and even a tiny little chapel that seats maybe 8 people. Sarah is very nice and responsive. She is easily found around the campground many time a day. Great host! The sites quite close to each other, so on full days the back-in sites especially might feel a little cramped, but we were the only ones and had no complaints. There is paid fishing available most days (not Sunday-Tuesday) in a stocked trout pond, a large stream Panther Creek running through, an old forest road cum hiking trail adjacent (consider pants and long sleeves during tick season), and more hiking one left turn and a 10-minute drive away (locals say there are abundant ramps here, and the forestry roads are open for digging during ramp season). Very quiet while we were there, very little traffic. It's in a little valley so while it is quite dark, the sky view is limited with trees all around.

We loved the creek, kids enjoyed playing in it. Store being on property was awesome for popsicles, snacks, ice, cold drinks! Excellent location for access to river.

Weekend Trip to Honeysuckle Springs Smoky Mountains

We rented 3 sites for a family camping trip. They were all great, as described. When it rained there was an old barn we could cover and eat in. Bathrooms were very clean, hot water. Nice hike around the property. They kept the firewood really dry to use too.

Stayed in the TeePee and man oh man did my kids love it. Falling asleep next to the relaxing sounds of the creek. 2nd year in a row and we will be back for many more.

2 nights at Smoky Mtn Mangalitsa River Ranch

Absolutely loved this spot. The campsite was well maintained, with an awesome deck and a floor hammock that made it easy to relax and soak in the surroundings. Falling asleep to the sound of the river was pure magic. The views from the meadows and the nearby knoll were incredible. Sunsets and moonrises up there are not to be missed. Perfect blend of comfort and nature.

This place was the most incredible campground we have ever stayed at! The magical setting, the crystal clear stream, the incredible fire globe, themed cabins and the sweetest host and rescue animals!! We felt like we stepped into another world and loved it so much! Around every corner, day and night, is a new delight to surprise you. All spaces are super clean and every detail is beyond creative and sweet. Don’t hesitate to book your trip solo or with a group of friends. You will not be disappointed. We enjoyed Lake Chatuge and Laughing dog brewery nearby as well if you want to venture out, but you will have plenty of magical sights to see at the campground if you decide to stay put the whole time. Thank you so much for an incredible time! We can’t wait to come back🩵

Weekend Trip to Smoky Mtn Mangalitsa River Ranch

Group: 5 adults, 10 kids (ages 3-10) from Chapel Hill/Durham Wow, this blew our expectations out of the water. The property is stunning, beautiful, idyllic, and every other word you can think off. Surrounded by mountains with rolling hills, bird filled woods, and beautiful views, it’s the best campsite I’ve ever paid for. We stayed at Troutfall and felt like we had our own little slice of heaven. The deck overlooks the river where we observed bald eagles, osprey, hawks, kingfishers, and a myriad of song birds, with the highlight being a male Baltimore Oriole. There is a large level area to set up tents that held our one 4 person tent, two 6 per person tents, and one 8 person tent easily. Bring a hammer and sturdy stakes as the gravel is very rocky. We had quite a bit of rain during our 3 night stay and the whole site drained perfectly. The river was slow enough to take 8 kids ages 5-9 tubing, but exciting enough with mini rapids to have them wanting to do it again and again. We watched fireflies each night, got to see 5 piglets romp and play in their pen, and watched a sunrise from the top of one of their picturesque hills. Highly recommend renting the porta potty if you have a big group. It’s worth it, trust us. When asked how this camping trip rated among others, the kids said it was the best ever. Cat and Rick were great hosts and communicated perfectly. We’re already looking forward to our next trip there!

Beautiful land with river access. Lots of space for tents. If you want to set up near the river there's plenty of space but be prepared to carry your gear.down a flight of stairs. Matt was nice and notified us of a possible storm. Bring earplugs as the road noise is pretty loud. The river and the river access were my favorite.

It was small but easy to find things. The showers are newer and very clean. I like it when the shower and toilet are together for ease. They were responsive as we needed a place quickly last minute since we were passing thru. They were accommodating and easy to work with.

If you are looking for adventure in nature in the Appalachian Mountains, the Cherohala Skyway, Indian Boundary Lake, Bald River Falls, Tellico River, Big Bear tubing, Citico Creek, and other scenic waterfalls and hiking trails are a short drive away. The Lost Sea underground cave and lake adventure is a 24 minute drive, Fort Loudon State Historic Park is a 36 minute drive, and the Blue Ridge Mountains are located nearby as well. If you are looking an adventure in the city, Knoxville is located an hour drive east and Chattanooga is located an hour drive west. Pigeon Forge is located 1.5 hours away, Gatlinburg is located 2 hours away, Cades Cove is located 2 hours away, and Newfound Gap and Kuwohi (Clingman’s Dome) in the Great Smoky Mountains are located about 2.5 hours away. Bryson City, NC is located 2 hours away. There is so much to do if you are looking for an adventure! Access the Starr Mountain Camp entrance off Mecca Pike, just west of Daugherty Springs Rd across from Shady Grove Church and Cemetery and one-way pull through exit onto Daughtery Springs Rd at the end of your stay. Site 1 is situated on the top level layout and ideal for larger campers and trailers. Site 2 and 3 are situated on the middle level layout and ideal for mid-sized campers and trailers. Site 4, 5, and 6 are situated on the lower level layout and ideal for mid-sized and smaller-sized campers and trailers. There is no community bathhouse. All ages are welcome. Pets on leash are welcome. Check in time is 11 AM and Check out time is 4 PM but ask the host if you need accommodations on check in or check out timing. Quiet period between 10 PM and 7 AM and peace and rest for all is a priority at our mini camp. Host family asks that you keep the property in the same state that you found it, so please pick up your trash and animal droppings. Please do not chop down any trees or branches or affix anything foreign to them and do not leave any items in the creek. There are no fish in the property creek but Tellico River is ideal and just a short drive away. Vehicle parking is located just off Site 1 on the Mecca Pike side so you can enjoy an unobstructed view mountain view. One vehicle is recommended but ask host for accommodations if a second vehicle is needed. About your Host: Starr Mountain Camp is family operated and lives on the property. The Newman family hosts have a deep love and respect for our savior Jesus Christ, the United States of America, and public safety service. Your Host's have a combined public safety service of 30 years. A peaceful and quiet stay for our guests is a host priority. Active and retired law enforcement officers are welcome for a well-deserved restful stay!!! Host is available at all times by text or call. Host observes the Lord’s Day so please text or call on Sundays only if there is an urgent, immediate matter. Out of privacy, please do not walk up to the host family house unless invited. With full appreciation for having a restful stay, the Host provides the amenity of grocery shopping for the guest with a small fee and please text if you are interested. Crowley's Cove is your base station to the Great Smoky Mountains. Close enough to enjoy all areas around, but far enough away not to worry about traffic, noise, and people. A bit of an oasis secluded in the country. You still have easy/quick access to I-40 off exit 412 for travel in any direction. 30 Minutes from Knoxville and Sevierville, about an hour to Gatlinburg, Asheville and the Tri-Cities areas. Nestled along the edge of Douglas Lake, minutes from Dandridge, the 2nd oldest town in Tennessee and you are surrounded by the history. The campsite is approx. 1/2 acre fully fenced and away from the road. Just drive through the double gate and park directly in front of the camper. Our camper is a 2024 (brand new) Wildwood Platinum 22ERAS opening concept 28' travel trailer. FYI, there is a wonderful Pizza and Wings restaurant just a couple minutes from the site. (Verardi's Pizza & Wings). INCLUDED WITH STAY: 1 use of the indoor Self-Service Doggy Wash Station and unleashed Private Dog Park use (2hrs per day) Both must be scheduled with host!
