This ecological art project is currently recruiting visitors to camp in beautiful fields, on woodland rim sites, or at delicate campsites located along a system of woodland trails. As of 2025, camping here provides a glimpse into the fourth year of succession. This current phase is characterized by spacious views of a gently rolling young prairie contrasted with the rocky and steep slopes of the mature forest. Most likely a good fit for self-sufficient types that like campsites with generous spacing, but still want to get out to the park quickly (~7 miles to the Visitors Center) or travel into Cave City (3 mi) for coffee/ice-cream/pizza/barbecue/bar/food/etc. Expand from the campsite into a sketch-work of trails, as if camping near the headquarters of a satellite nature reserve. All sites except Spicebush have a filtered water output. Spicebush campers will have water access next to parking. Camping funds allow us to plant trees (~525 seedlings as of March 2025), establish prairie grasses and flowers, restore wetlands, create trails, and remove invasive species. If you have only 2 days, a nice way to experience Mammoth Cave NP is to break the trip into 3 layers, covering the underworld (cave tours), upper world (hiking), and the water that connects the two (Green River kayaking). Mammoth Cave is unique in the way that a study of the underworld will repeatedly draw the mind into a creative space of imagining what is beneath the surface, how these worlds are connected, while navigating park land and water. Note that we offer kayak trips that can be tailored to your schedule and travel constraints. Thanks to our visitors for supporting this type of project! Bundles of dried and split firewood are available onsite, usually a mix of oak with a suggested donation of $6/bundle, delivered to the campsite. Kayaks are hosted on a suggested donation basis ($45) providing a flexible option for visitors to float the Green River through the national park. Pending availability, we offer tent setups as well to folks who want to camp but aren't traveling with gear (REI 4 person Half Dome). Tent setup comes with two sleeping pads (you will need pillows, blankets, etc.).

A working horse farm with some wooded areas and lots of spots to pitch a tent or hammock. We have a friendly dog, 2 mini highland cows and currently 3 horses! We are on 20 acres. We are constantly improving our land and are expanding our horse boarding as we do so. Close to Abraham Lincoln’s birthplace , Mcdougal Lake and the main square in Hodgenville which has cute little restaurants and places to walk During summer there are lots of wild blackberries to pick on the perimeter of the pasture (this is usually June-July only). We are bordered on woods so camping can be done in the trees as well or in our nice open area right as soon as you come up the drive. Outside our barn/house we have water and electric outlets as needed. In the open area or the woods there are several trees that can be used for a hammock as well. We do have a large fire pit near our house and a ton of wood fires can be started as long as we are not under a burn ban if we are having a dry summer or fall. In our camping field we have a smaller black fire pit for use . The pastures are set back from the woods so feel free to walk the perimeter of them. We do have 2 farm dogs that are super friendly and gentle. If you have an RV it’s easier to enter into the 1575 entrance and pull through

As beekeepers we were excited to find Bee Springs Kentucky and Bee Happy Campground. Roomy camping sites though our camper is only 16 feet there were bigger ones there with plenty of room. It was clean and quiet and Christie is very responsive. The clear night sky made for some great stargazing and pictures on top of the hill.

Our stay was awesome! The owner had free firewood to use for the firepits and every question we had was answered promptly. I will say there are no showers yet, so there’s a pilot about an hour away or a planet fitness in Columbia if you have the black card. Other than that it was great, super quiet. Lots of long term stayers. Very chill, would recommend!!

This is the perfect spot, especially when you’re like me (new to the camper lifestyle, 24y/o) and have been driving for 8 hours only to realize that you didn’t overlap your days to check out from an old campsite and into your new site- on the same day. We were 30 minutes from the site we booked for the NEXT day, and not the day we had needed it. Allison’s property came in SERIOUS HANDY. Other HipCamp properties were available, but needed a 24 hr window to book. Then I found Allison. Our angel from God himself. Instant booking. $45 after taxes/fees. Best $45 we HAVE EVER SPENT. Cheaper and more private than a hotel, better than a Walmart parking lot. There’s a 50 amp hookup, and on the other side of that there is a residential plug in too. Two water spigots which came in handy too when we hadn’t expected to need them. The horses were chill, didn’t bug us. Only weird vibe we got was when we were setting up when we got there because in the large open field in front of the barn (we got there at dark so I couldn’t see) I heard an animal making a weird whimpering noise, high pitch. I asked about coyotes which they technically do have but anyway we were fine like they keep their horses outside, so it’s safe. Their dog was chill, stayed up by the house. Our two dogs didn’t even care, not sure if they realized they had a dog. They were great there. I will say if you have dogs though that the spot is on gravel so fur baby paws could be sensitive to it. But yeah, worth your money!

We had our area of land behind the barn to ourselves and enjoyed listening to the birds in the morning. His pups were sweet and hung out while we made breakfast outside. Weekend Trip to Misty Bottoms
Misty Bottoms is hands down one of the best campsites where we’ve ever stayed The site is incredibly well-maintained and thoughtfully equipped with everything you could need for a comfortable, relaxing stay. The grassy area was perfect for our tent (and great for RVs too), and we really appreciated the electric hookup and potable water access. The bathroom was impressively clean, with a hot shower and even toiletries provided — a rare find at most campsites! We loved gathering around the fire pit in the evenings (firewood included!) and spending time in the shelter, which had everything from hammocks, tables, and even a refrigerator. It was a great spot to hang out, rain or shine. The views of the sky were stunning — clear and wide open, perfect for stargazing, and the sunrise and sunset over the Green River were absolutely magical. The whole environment was peaceful and quiet — ideal for a relaxing getaway. Hosts Travis and Tena were incredibly kind, welcoming, and accommodating. They clearly care about making this a special place for visitors, and it shows. We will definitely be returning. We highly recommend Misty Bottoms to anyone looking for a peaceful, well-equipped nature retreat!

This ecological art project is currently recruiting visitors to camp in beautiful fields, on woodland rim sites, or at delicate campsites located along a system of woodland trails. As of 2025, camping here provides a glimpse into the fourth year of succession. This current phase is characterized by spacious views of a gently rolling young prairie contrasted with the rocky and steep slopes of the mature forest. Most likely a good fit for self-sufficient types that like campsites with generous spacing, but still want to get out to the park quickly (~7 miles to the Visitors Center) or travel into Cave City (3 mi) for coffee/ice-cream/pizza/barbecue/bar/food/etc. Expand from the campsite into a sketch-work of trails, as if camping near the headquarters of a satellite nature reserve. All sites except Spicebush have a filtered water output. Spicebush campers will have water access next to parking. Camping funds allow us to plant trees (~525 seedlings as of March 2025), establish prairie grasses and flowers, restore wetlands, create trails, and remove invasive species. If you have only 2 days, a nice way to experience Mammoth Cave NP is to break the trip into 3 layers, covering the underworld (cave tours), upper world (hiking), and the water that connects the two (Green River kayaking). Mammoth Cave is unique in the way that a study of the underworld will repeatedly draw the mind into a creative space of imagining what is beneath the surface, how these worlds are connected, while navigating park land and water. Note that we offer kayak trips that can be tailored to your schedule and travel constraints. Thanks to our visitors for supporting this type of project! Bundles of dried and split firewood are available onsite, usually a mix of oak with a suggested donation of $6/bundle, delivered to the campsite. Kayaks are hosted on a suggested donation basis ($45) providing a flexible option for visitors to float the Green River through the national park. Pending availability, we offer tent setups as well to folks who want to camp but aren't traveling with gear (REI 4 person Half Dome). Tent setup comes with two sleeping pads (you will need pillows, blankets, etc.).

We are constantly improving our land and are expanding our horse boarding as we do so. Close to Abraham Lincoln’s birthplace , Mcdougal Lake and the main square in Hodgenville which has cute little restaurants and places to walk During summer there are lots of wild blackberries to pick on the perimeter of the pasture (this is usually June-July only). We are bordered on woods so camping can be done in the trees as well or in our nice open area right as soon as you come up the drive. Outside our barn/house we have water and electric outlets as needed. In the open area or the woods there are several trees that can be used for a hammock as well. We do have a large fire pit near our house and a ton of wood fires can be started as long as we are not under a burn ban if we are having a dry summer or fall. In our camping field we have a smaller black fire pit for use . The pastures are set back from the woods so feel free to walk the perimeter of them. Mammoth Cave Campground
Mammoth Cave is truly a mind blowing experience! We took two tours in one day which felt like a good length of time. The first was the Extended Historic tour which visited the main entrance and largest rooms in the cave, looked at artifacts, and discussed the history. The second was the Domes & Dripstones tour which visits one of the few areas in the cave with actual stalagmite and stalagmite formations (Frozen Niagara). The rangers were great and the tours was informative and fun! We also did a quick hike above ground and saw so many birds. The Mammoth Cave Campground was very well maintained and felt the same as any normal state park campground, with sites pretty close together so you're in your neighbors business, but the price and proximity to the tours was great. The camping shop was right next door and has paid laundry and showers, a post office, and other essentials (for a high price of course). We used the showers and they worked well - they are coin operated but they have a quarter machine available.

I stayed at Moutardier site A044 about 40 min away, highly recommend! Quick walk down to the water. Lots of trails in this area and also in Mammoth Cave NP. Unfortunately didn’t do any cave tours due to having my dog, but there are kennels at the lodge if you want to do that.

I like caves. Like… a lot. The main cave isn’t as dramatic as the ones you can take a bus to, but its size is overwhelming, and the waterfall entrance is lovely. And thank goodness for kennels! Every park should have these.
