The Mill Creek runs along with this property, which features access to the scenic Dunkley Falls & The Black Hole — a cavernous geological anomaly. This famous swimming spot is a perfect place to test your nerve with a backflip off its 20 ft cliffs or just take a leisurely swim in the naturally formed glacier pool. Like to fish? The 40 Acres are Pastured and Open but Wooded all around in every direction. Enjoy any of the many national park trails within the Green Mountains or Adirondacks. Lake George, Merck Forest, Schroon Lake, Lake St. Catherine, Bomoseen are all nearby as well as the Battenkill River and the Mettowee for fishing. If you are a winter visitor, plenty of ski resorts are a little over an hour away like Stratton, Bromely, Okemo, or Killington to name a few.

As far as we know, this land has been occupied since shortly after the civil war. It is actually two farms, combined into one around 1900. The main farmhouse was built out of the logs they cleared in 1879, and there are old foundations of the other original farm houses/barns as well. All over the property (now woods) there are piles of stones that the original inhabitants pulled from the fields. The second farm house was built in 1901. Most of the total 240 acres were cleared pasture land at that time. During the twenties and thirties the property was owned by an industrious couple from the City that lovingly turned it into more of a "rustic retreat"; damming a pond, planting ornamentals and upgrading the buildings. There have been many owners over the years, but we are proud to say it has been with us the longest. Our family bought it in 1961 and we have been trying to be good stewards ever since. Come and visit our little patch of wilderness!

A developed network of our own marked trails for exploring, our private red slate swimming quarry with docks and seating, and catch release fishing at 2 ponds are a few things to enjoy here. Slate Valley Trails and Merck Forest are close by. Places to picnic, enjoy the sunset, and idle are a plenty. Our farm stand is stocked with seasonal produce, jams, eggs, and bagged ice. Spring water is available. Excellent locally burgers, steaks, chicken and more are available as pre-order EXTRAS.

Our historic and peaceful property is yours to explore! According to a few sources we've consulted, the Mohican people (Eastern Algonquian family of tribes - not to be confused with the Mohawk, a distinctly different tribe) were the indigenous occupants of the land where our farm is now located. Historians note that the name Mohican is from the indigenous word meaning "water that flows in two directions." Most Mohicans were driven into western NY and Canada when the Revolutionary War broke out.
Local history indicates that the first white occupants to build here were the Hawley Family, in 1790. Parts of the farmhouse date to this era. Outbuildings were added through the decades and centuries, and the land was used as a dairy farm, among other ventures, by previous owners.
We purchased the property in 2021 in hopes of providing more space, nature and outdoor living for our two little ones. We have two fields dedicated to Christmas trees, as well as apple, pear and cherry trees, and we've had successful garlic harvests to share with neighbors, family, friends, and at local farmers' markets. A developed network of our own marked trails for exploring, our private red slate swimming quarry with docks and seating, and catch release fishing at 2 ponds are a few things to enjoy here. Slate Valley Trails and Merck Forest are close by. Places to picnic, enjoy the sunset, and idle are a plenty. Our farm stand is stocked with seasonal produce, jams, eggs, and bagged ice. Spring water is available. Excellent locally burgers, steaks, chicken and more are available as pre-order EXTRAS.

Our historic and peaceful property is yours to explore! You can swim in the pond, take casual strolls around the property, enjoy the campfire at night, bike for miles on scenic country roads, and use this site as a jumping off point to discover all the beer, wine, cheese, concerts, festivals, hiking, kayaking, restaurants, shopping and more that the greater Capital Region has to offer!
According to a few sources we've consulted, the Mohican people (Eastern Algonquian family of tribes - not to be confused with the Mohawk, a distinctly different tribe) were the indigenous occupants of the land where our farm is now located. Historians note that the name Mohican is from the indigenous word meaning "water that flows in two directions." Most Mohicans were driven into western NY and Canada when the Revolutionary War broke out.
Local history indicates that the first white occupants to build here were the Hawley Family, in 1790. Parts of the farmhouse date to this era. Outbuildings were added through the decades and centuries, and the land was used as a dairy farm, among other ventures, by previous owners.
We purchased the property in 2021 in hopes of providing more space, nature and outdoor living for our two little ones. We have two fields dedicated to Christmas trees, as well as apple, pear and cherry trees, and we've had successful garlic harvests to share with neighbors, family, friends, and at local farmers' markets. Secluded cabin within walking distance to the Haystack Mtn. hike with 360° views (3 miles round trip, cabin to summit and back). Cabin has a 2-burner propane stove and fully stocked kitchen (pots, utensils, etc). No running water or electricity, but cabin is stocked with 7 gallons of drinking water, plus a rain barrel for wash water. Separate outhouse with a sawdust bucket toilet and bucket shower. Brought my girlfriend here as a little surprise trip for her bday and she absolutely loved it!! I was a little nervous about the weather but it ended up being so cozy inside the Yurt with the snowfall outside. Such a nice and relaxing stay with wonderful hosts that accommodates to all of your needs. Was so relieving to be able to pack nice and light and just hangout. We had everything we needed! Awesome hosts and a an awesome place. Ed made sure we had plenty of wood the entire time and was always available if we needed anything!

Staying in Oma’s cabin was beautiful. The cabin feels handmade down to the smallest detail. You can feel the hosts’ Erin and Philip’s care in everything about the place. Excellent kitchen set up with everything necessary to cook meals and clean up. The stove kept the cabin warm and comfortable when it was cold and windy outside. Luna the dog came by to say hi. Fire pit is great for having a fire under the stars. Walking distance to a great hiking trail. Really just a perfect off-grid cabin in the woods.

A beautiful well maintained campsite. Kathy and Tim were very friendly and helpful. The eggs they gave us on arrival were delicious and there was plenty of firewood for us to burn on the cold October nights. Everything was immaculate and clean, especially the out house with some luxury touches. All the extra details show how much they care about their guests camping experience. The property was fun to explore as well as visiting all the animals on the farm. Easy to explore the area from their place, loved the small town general stores and local creameries. Look forward to visiting in warmer weather.

My family (7 year old daughter, husband and dog) had the most wonderful time tent camping at the Hops site on Heather and Paul's beautiful farm. It's such a special, expansive place with so many cool spots to hike to within the farm that we didn't feel like we needed to leave the property. We loved the peace and privacy of the Hops site but next time we'd like to try to Oak tree site which has stunning views. My daughter loved drinking directly from the spring behind Heather's house, and visiting the pergola near dusk. The highland cows against the backdrop of rolling hills and the beautiful slate structures look like paintings. I'd definitely recommend taking the tour of the property to orient yourself. Heather is a lovely person and a knowledgeable and engaging host.

Weekend Trip to Cozy Mountain Cabin
What an amazing find!!!! Super clean, well stocked, comfortable seating and bed. Beautiful location, was amazing to sit outside and listen to the stream, wander over to it and be mesmerized by the cascades. The wood stove heated the cabin right up and the fire pit under the night stars was another treat. Outhouse was clean and I loved the motion light that came on when you entered. Brought our 5 gallon jug of water and there is a shelf over half the sink to set it on and made cooking and clean up a breeze. Propane lamp lit the cabin up at night.
Felt like we were staying in a luxurious Airbnb not camping as every need we had Rebecca had already met. Right down to the dog bed and treats for our dog. Highly recommend!!!

Where to go
Lake Champlain Valley
Northeast of Lake Lucerne, campers make a beeline for Lake George, the “Queen of American Lakes,” where you can enjoy everything from paragliding to water-skiing. If you’re lucky enough to snag a spot (sites can book up months in advance), camping on the lake’s private islands is an unmissable experience. To the north, there’s first-come, first-served primitive camping in the Pharaoh Lake Wilderness Area, and plenty of choice around Lake Champlain on the Vermont border.
Western Foothills
Heading west, lowland lakes and forested valleys blanket the western foothills. If you’re looking to escape the crowds and explore the wilderness, you’ll find some of the region’s best backcountry camping around the Moose River Plains, while rustic shelters dot the trails of the West Canada Lakes Wilderness Area. There’s also island camping on Indian Lake and plenty of RV camping around Old Forge and Inlet.
Hudson Valley
The Hudson River curls its way south from Lake Luzerne in an endless panorama of forested riverbanks and historic towns. Albany and Hudson are the main hubs, but there are camping and glamping options dotted along the riverside and hidden away in the surrounding countryside. West of Hudson, head into the Catskill Mountains to hike, mountain bike, camp, or ski, depending on the season.
When to go
The best time to visit Lake Luzerne is from May to August, when the weather is ideal for swimming, water sports, and tent camping. This is peak season, and popular spots can get crowded, so book ahead. Hiking is particularly scenic in fall when the landscapes are aglow with autumnal colors. Ski season in the Adirondacks runs from November through April, but there are backcountry cabins, cozy glampsites, and RV parks open year-round.
Know before you go
- Lake Luzerne has grocery stores, restaurants, and shops selling camping and fishing supplies.
- Tick season runs from April through September in the Lake Luzerne region, so cover up when hiking and check for ticks after outdoor activities.
- There is no fee to enter Adirondack Park, but state campgrounds charge a fee, and many require reservations. A New York State Fishing License is required for any kind of fishing.
- Backcountry camping is allowed on state forest land through Adirondack Park, but you must not camp within 150 feet of any road, trail, or body of water unless marked with a “camp here” sign.
