Situated on 36 acres, this working farm is 2 miles West of Taylors Falls. Dan bought this property with the intention of growing stone fruits (plums, peaches, apricots and cherries) using sustainable and organic practices because health and wellness matter to them! They are still in the process of improving their property. Many of the building on the property were in poor condition, including the old barn foundation which is now one of Dan and Danielle favorite places to keep cool in the summer. After they had excavated all the debris (which took years) they were able to transform it with gardens and fire pit for all to enjoy. They love sharing what they have been blessed with! How we ended up in Knife Lake Township on 81 acres of forested land. We began looking for land in late fall of 1996. After several months of searching, we happened upon a tiny newspaper ad for 81 acres of land described as "Beautiful, secluded, mature hardwoods, tall pines w/creek & beaver pond, many gd bldg sites & great hunting". We toured the property, covered in almost two feet of snow, on a snowmobile in January 1997 and fell in love with it. We have been stewards of this piece of land for 25 years and are still enamored of its beauty and diversity. We are lulled to sleep by the sounds of owls and bullfrogs and the distant yipping of coyotes. Spring through fall we are often awakened by the rattling, honking of sandhill cranes and a wide variety of bird songs. Besides deer and lots of small critters, we've seen bear, bobcat, rafters of turkeys, quail, grouse, pheasant, owls, hawks and eagles. The sky, on a clear night, is breathtaking. We have always visualized sharing the land with others, so come and immerse yourself in this bountiful space.

Our personal log cabin is the blue dot but there is a significant tree line in between. If we are there, we are happy to give you a tour. The blue line is the trail. The white area is our property on the river and available for tent only or to hang out for the day if you choose to camp up top. The purple area is where the goats are busy eating. Come and visit them! While the site does not have running water, you’ll be camping right next to our family cabin, and we’re happy to help with anything you might need. We also have friendly goats on the property that guests are welcome to visit! There’s also plenty to explore nearby. Just minutes away, Braham offers a quirky “hole-in-the-wall” bowling alley and some charming local shops. Head north to Pine City for more options, including restaurants, a larger grocery store, and additional shopping. History buffs will enjoy visiting the Snake River Trading Post, a Minnesota historical site. And if you’re in the mood for a local treat, Sapsucker Farms is a nearby cidery open on weekends, often hosting live music, food trucks, and hiking trails. Ask your hosts for even more ideas—they’re happy to share local favorites!

If you would prefer to use a pit toilet there is one on the property with directions marked with a sign. Firewood is available for sale onsite or feel free to clean up dead wood lying along the trail at no cost, note that it is more than likely freshly cut and wet but will burn if the fire is hot enough. The tent site is right next to rapids on the Snake river. If you struggle sleeping to the sound of rushing water, this may not be for you!

2 nights at Stone Creek Farm

I loved camping in Dan's yurt campsite! The walk from the car is perfect, just long enough to feel like you are really out there camping! The views walking to the bathroom in the fall were just gorgeous! Speaking of the bathroom don't be scared off by the composting toilet. Dan provides plenty of woodchips/sawdust to cover everything up and there is no odor! The bbq grill and bonfire ring are great to have options. The picnic table seats plenty of people. It rained a bit while we were there and everything in the tent stayed dry thanks to the extra plastic Dan has placed over the top of the yurt. Dan is so kind and generous and feels like going over to a friend's house to camp. Can't wait to return next year!

Weekend Trip to Hoppensteadt Hills

Very last minute, I realized I needed to go camping: my stay in Site 1, Birch, was just what I was seeking for some nature nurturing. The site was private as promised (in fact I had whole campground to myself) and beautifully tucked in the woods. The yurt tent is well designed (side pockets, table in middle around center pole, also with pockets for stashing gear). Outhouse was a bit of a hike, though even the walk was pleasant, and so clean: the automatic light inside (and solar lights outside) was unexpected nice touch! I enjoyed the barred owl, sand hill cranes at night; great blue heron on one of our hikes on the property. I didn't think about it being duck hunting season, so the early morning and late evening distant gun sounds were scary for my dog, and the 2nd night fox barking was quite startling! But a good reminder we're in the woods! Maryam was helpful with answering questions during booking.

Absolutely loved this spot! There was a table provided, fire pit tripod grate for cooking and wagons to help bring stuff to the site. The river was beautiful and the stars were lovely to see.

Nice spot on the river. Caught a bunch of small mouth bass with top water lures. Catching the sunrise coming up from down river was awesome. 10/10 will visit again. Rick and his wife are great hosts.

Dan is a wonderful host and owns some absolutely gorgeous land. I will be back! Be prepared for a small but beautiful hike out to your camp site. Bathrooms are as good as it gets, tents are huge and the bonus of not needing to setup is amazing, and the access to one of the most beautiful state parks is uncanny. If you have the legs for it I would absolutely recommend touring this area on bike. The descent into Taylor’s falls is one of the best in the state, the climb out of the city will have your legs woken up, and the nearby Swedish Immigrant Trail is beautiful especially in the Fall.

1 night at Hoppensteadt Hills

We had a nice stay at Maryam’s campsite. The tent was clean and the area was peaceful, which made for a relaxing night. We arrived after dark and quickly realized how dark it gets since there are no exterior lights provided—definitely recommend bringing plenty of lanterns or flashlights. The grass and surrounding area could use a bit of trimming as it was a little overgrown, and we did notice quite a few large spiders both on and inside the tent, so keep that in mind if you’re not a fan of bugs. The queen-sized air mattress we brought barely fit inside the tent, but it worked out okay. The host wasn’t super responsive, but we did appreciate being able to check out late, which was a nice touch. Overall, the experience was good and we gave it five stars.

Weekend Trip to Lazy River Landing

Lazy River campsite was a beautiful location for our family to camp! It was only an hour from the metro area but felt like we were much further out and was very private. There was plenty of space for multiple tents right along the river with a nice fire pit area, kayak and canoe, hammock, and picnic table. It would have been tricky moving all our gear to and from our car to the river area but the hosts were so helpful and assisted us with their 4-wheeler. There was an option to camp right next to the vehicles but we wanted to be next to the water. Outhouse was clean and stocked. Would definitely recommend!

I had a wonderful weekend at Mary Ann's property. I was in the Birch site which was very private, with lots of trees. There was a place to hang my hammock and the yurt was very comfortable. Have a beautiful trails to walk on, and I could hear lots of wildlife. Marianne was very warm and welcoming and can't think of one single complaint.

What a hidden gem- we had such a great time. The stream is so idyllic, close to town but yet far enough away. Easy walk from the car parking and the compost out house is so taken care of. Definitely will be back!

Weekend Trip to Lazy River Landing

Great little getaway about an hour from the twin cities. Camping area and riverside hang out were both lovely. The hosts were responsive, kind, and helpful. We had a great time sitting by the fire, exploring the river on the canoe, and just hanging out on the riverbank. Campsite was clean and level, easy to park in, and outhouse was super clean! Pro tip: when navigating in, the actual entrance is a bit past where GPS points you. Go PAST the property with the red gate, past the next drive, and then you’ll see the clearing with the outhouse.

Nice spot right on the river. There are homes nearby, you can see lights and sometimes other people at the river, but overall very quiet and peaceful. The outhouse with the separator was by far the nicest outhouse experience ever. Logistics stuff, not necessarily good or bad, just things to know: no cell service (at least on t-mobile), no grate over fire ring, a small plastic table available but no seating, firewood available for purchase with cash and was good quality.
