I booked Bundo’s Cabin for a mini “artist retreat” and it was a lovely early spring trip- the perfect balance of comfort and roughing it. I hope to be back!

Weekend Trip to Bayberry Acres on Danger Lake

The chalet on Danger Lake was a wonderful escape. So many beautiful animals on the property, the lodging was well appointed. There are plenty of games and books to use while there (I found a new favorite book there :). We brought DVDs from the library to watch at night, though there were movies there to use as well. The nearby town of Cambridge has a wonderful inexpensive movie theater. Kiddo and I enjoyed walking around the property and looking at herons and swans. Gary and his wife are terrific hosts.

This tiny cabin was so cozy! The heaters kept the cabin so warm, even though the night we stayed was cold and rainy. We loved that there was coffee and everything we needed to make it right there in the cabin. The breakfast was such a generous touch. Overall, this was SUCH a great getaway, even on a cold spring weekend.

We loved the cute little cottage that we stayed in. We also really enjoyed the rec room with the hot tub and games. Super short drive into town if you needed something and even shorter drive to the casino.

We loved staying at the Wild West cabin! The host was super responsive and helpful. It was stocked with everything we forgot to bring, from coffee to olive oil. We drove up to banning state park for a beautiful hike.

This was an amazing trip. The cabin is so cozy and has everything you need for a successfully relaxing trip. The cubbies of books and all the misc special extras outside really make a difference! Highly recommend and will definitely be back! Thanks again!

2 nights at Meadow Cabin

When our travel plans fell through, I was excited to stumble upon the Meadows cabin as a holiday alternative. Communication with the hosts was prompt and clear and we enjoyed the chance to bring along our dogs with the fair pet policy. From K-cups to dog treats, the hosts had us covered and all we had to do was show up and slow down. Highlights for us included the indoor fireplace and nearby river views. This was an extremely positive experience that I’d be eager to recommend and book again.

1 night at The Wooded Retreat/breakfast/spa

The little wooded sleeping cottage was the perfect place for me to visit on my solo writing retreat. I slept very soundly after a session in the sauna, and was greeted with a beautiful sunrise in the morning as I strolled around the property. The cottage was warm and cozy, and the location is perfect, too, as it’s just a short drive from Banning State Park. There are countless other places to hike nearby, birds to be watched, and some truly picturesque sights along the Kettle River. This would be a wonderful place to stay any time of the year; with thoughtful accommodations, very friendly hosts, and beautiful scenery, it was an absolute pleasure. Highly recommend, I’d love to go back someday!

We have kayaks and paddle boards available, as well as a dock for fishing and swimming fun. There is a communal firepit on the beach, along with two portable fire rings available on a first-come, first-served basis. We are close to Father Hennepin and Kathio State Parks, where you can enjoy wildlife and hiking. There is a bowling alley in town along with a city park. Local fishing launches are available and ATV rentals with nearby trails provide even more opportunities for adventure. There are also boutiques and shopping in Isle as well as nearby towns of Wahkon and Aitkin. Adding to the welcoming atmosphere, are two friendly dogs – Frank, a Goldendoodle, and his sister/sidekick, Lucy, a Mini Goldendoodle. They roam freely on part of our property with the help of an invisible fence. Feel free to shoo them away if they bother you or if any other rogue neighborhood dog wanders over. On this property you can have your pets off leash but please contain your pet as you see fit with other pet personalities. Sometimes, like humans we don't all get along. Please clean up after them as they roam the property and respect others campers/neighbors spaces. Keep your dog within your sight at all times. When we camp, we value privacy, and we'll ensure the same for you. Upon arrival, please head directly to your campsite or cabin. We can communicate through messaging to assist you with anything you need. ***Campers must back campers in from the tar (Vista Rd). Guests will need to be self contained, take waste with them and leave no trace. ***Attention Summer Guests: Swimmer's Itch Prevention*** During the warmer summer months, please be aware of the potential for swimmer's itch in our lake. This cabin was built by hand in the 1970s from white pine that was harvested and milled on-site. Our family purchased and rehabbed this beautiful cabin throughout 2021. The modern yet cozy cabin has electricity and features a front patio, an external outhouse and outdoor rainwater bucket shower, a fully equipped kitchen, a dining area, a living area, and a sleeping loft with a reading nook. No matter the season, this cabin is a wonderful, cozy, and clean, place to relax and unwind. Feel free to roam around the 10-acre property and explore the 80 acres of state land to the north. Deer, foxes, coyotes, turkeys, owls, eagles and more are likely to be seen or heard. Explore, Banning, Moose Lake, and Father Hennepin State Parks which are all within 30 minutes, and return to the cabin to read, play games, listen to records, have a fire, and relax. The kitchen provides you with everything you need to prepare your meals including a refrigerator, small freezer, stove, oven, cookware, cutting boards, sink, seasonings, oil, and coffee. Water for washing is available from an electric pump faucet in the kitchen, and a brand-new outhouse is located steps from the cabin. The cabin is efficiently heated and cooled with a user-friendly heat pump and gets the cabin to your desired temperature very quickly. We are grateful to honor the Dakota and Anishinaabe people whose land we occupy by donating $10 from every booking to the Makoce Ikikcupi Land Recovery Project. The Hamlet Lake Homestead

The Hamlet Lake homestead is our 10-acre family home with two unique and private hip-camp sites. The Hamlet Lake Bunkhouse is located to the west of our home in its own secluded parcel next to the lake. The Camp on Hamlet Hill is to the north of our home, on a remote flat hill at the top of our property, on a hill over Cedar brook. with 300-acre, (private) Hamlet Lake in front, and the wide portion of the 20-mile Cedar brook in the back. We are a large "homesteading" family, with chickens, ducks, and a garden. The campsite is a private 1/2 acre clearing, surrounded by woods with a firepit, grill, cooking utensils, and an outhouse. (Tents are available for a small additional cost). There is an outdoor water pump below the hill. Guests can access the waterfront and beach in front, with the use of the swim raft, lily pad, fishing dock, canoe, kayak, and paddle boards included. At nearly 100 feet deep, Hamlet lake also boasts excellent fishing. Our home is located 6 miles from Crosby, with the world-class Cuyuna Lakes 50-mile mountain bike trail system. Crosby is a growing tourist town with many new and unique restaurants, outdoor adventures, and shopping opportunities. The paved bike trail begins 3.5 north of us. Milacs lake is 10 miles to the south.

The little cabin

Great spring locarion, Wildlife and less bugs. By far the best time of the year to enjoy camping. You will have the only camp site on the property. You can stay in the small camping cabin in comfort with your own bedding, or sleeping bag for the twin bed in the loft, or the futon on the main level. The cabin only has room for two adults unless you bring a camp pad to sleep on the floor, or squeeze in a child, but you have the comforts of Heat with a small electric heater, or A/C, a Weber grill, mini fridge, microwave, and Electricity. Quiet former country farm site, with great wildlife viewing options with walking trails. Only 23 miles to DT St. Cloud and 8 Miles to the Walmart in Princeton for food or supplies. Just a half mile off Hwy 95 and 5 miles from the large Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge, with trails and lots of wildlife. Expect to hear Pheasants cackle in the AM, and see Sandhill Cranes or Geese fly over the camp site, or sitting in area fields. Enjoy time around a campfire with folding chairs and a picknick table with plenty of free dry wood in a storage rack.
