Life is a series of moments—of memories we make. This place is a great place to start! The views are astounding, the bed is incredibly comfortable, and the decor and amenities were perfect. From roasting marshmallows outside while overlooking the lake, to starting a fire in the wood-burning stove and enjoying the stars from bed—it doesn’t get any better! The host made everything super easy and incredibly fun. Whether you’re solo or adventuring with others, the location can’t be beat.

This place is such a unique gem! The dome was clean, beautiful and way more than we were expecting. Lauren and Caden’s attention to detail was above and beyond. We packed for full camping, not knowing what we needed, but upon arriving we quickly realized we overpacked. Water for dishes and drinking, wood for both the fires, great selection of tea/coffee, paper towels, pot and cast iron pan etc., were all thoughtfully provided. The space is stunning, cozy and peaceful, with intentional accents of crystals and healing-vibe decorations. They made communication very accessible and recommended their favorite waterfalls and rock hunting beaches. The view from the dome/property are breathtaking, and we were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights one evening. To watch them from bed is a truly unforgettable experience. We 10/10 recommend this romantic destination and we will be back. Thinking the fall colors would be epic here. Thank you Lauren and Caden!!

One of the best spots and hosts ever in my travels! I spent two nights here. Lauren was friendly, helpful and generous with her time. The dome was a once in a lifetime experience. Unplugged solitude was just what I was in need of.

We stayed at the orchard cabin. Jill and Nick's dogs were very welcoming even though we didn't get in until 1030 at night. We were able to pull out the futon to a bed so we didn't have to figure out a way to put our disabled child up the ladder to the loft area. The pump takes a bit of priming, but works really well once you have the pressure up.

It is a very charming cabin with an incredible view of the lake thru the trees. It was so relaxing and Susan took care of us and in fact provided a small heater for the chill. She was very accurate in describing the set-up and my wife gave the outhouse 4 stars, different world than what you think. We took our dog and she had a a lot to satisfy her curiosity. The cabin is rustic so think camping inside a sturdy shelter and pack accordingly. I brought a folding wagon, but susan says she has one so just ask. The area was so nice with access to all we wanted, hiking, dog sniffing, stuff in marquette. I hesitate leaving such a glowing review because I feel like I giving away a good secret. Not for everybody, but it certainly was for us.

We ended up staying in the Orchard Cabin and it was absolutely beautiful. Like seriously the cabin itself was incredible! So cozy and cute. Unfortunately we didn't spend much time in it because in our 3 days, we were out! We went up to Hogsback Mountain and walked the Irone Ore trail. All the views are incredible and easily accessed through Jill's land. It was amazing, an experience I won't ever forget. Honorable mention to Iris, Buttercup, and especially Chauncey (the dogs) who made a point to visit us each morning. They were very friendly and so adorable, they were the cherry on top of our trip!

Weekend Trip to Bear Tree Homestead

This place is amazing and was exactly what we needed. We were in the Orchard Cabin and it was perfect. No TV, no Wifi, just nature and simple means on a beautiful family homestead. The hosts are wonderful and let you roam the property but also give you privacy. We had fun just being still, listening to radio shows and the birds and frogs, sitting by the pond, cooking in the old woodstove and pumping our own water from the kitchen hand pump. It was so good to just disconnect in order to reconnect. And to be in a place where they treasure the land and how they live on/with it was really special. We would definitely go back!

We had such a peaceful stay at this cabin in the UP! The setting was incredibly quiet and relaxing—perfect for unwinding. We were pleasantly surprised by how strong and reliable the WiFi was, which made it easy to stay connected when needed. Having a hot shower after a day of exploring was such a nice bonus. Highly recommend for anyone looking to disconnect in nature without giving up comfort!

My wife and I were looking for a weekend getaway and Michael’s cabin delivered a quintessential cabin-in-the-woods experience! It was way bigger than we had expected, with plenty of room for a family/large group, or ample space for a couple looking to relax. When we wanted to unplug, the extensive trails that Michael has created made for an enjoyable walk in the woods. My wife and I both commented how peaceful it was not hearing any cars or airplanes overhead - truly magical! When we wanted our creature comforts, there was a TV with multiple streaming services, an oven and microwave for making meals, and WiFi that was powerful enough to stream a live soccer event in Europe (seriously!). We spent our drive home talking about the next time we’d be back! Can’t recommend this place enough!

Weekend Trip to Bear Tree Homestead

We stayed at the Pond Cabin for the second time and it was just as great as the first! They now have a sauna available to reserve and I highly recommend adding it to your stay! The sauna was beautifully built and worked perfectly and they let us use it for 2 hours which was more than enough time. They also had a hole in the pond ice for a cold plunge right next to the sauna which greatly added to the overall experience. The cabin was clean and cozy. The hosts are extremely friendly and responsive. Winter/early spring is the best time to stay at the Pond Cabin. We will be back as soon as possible!

The pond cabin was really cool. Visiting the property was awesome in general. Friendly hosts, amazing territory all around the structures, interesting and welcoming animals, all around. fantastic. I can't resist making one suggestion ... It'd be really cool if there were one more big window on the south wall of the cabin. The cabin stays plenty warm, so I don't think this would be an issue for keeping heat inside the cabin overnight. It would just make things more pleasant inside the cabin during the day. I think this is the first time I've ever suggested a modification to like this after a stay, and I was completely satisfied, it's just something I wanted to share because it would make such a difference!

This cabin was tucked away miles from the main road and had everything we needed. It is right next to a pond with ducks and other animals and served as the perfect weekend getaway. Jill was a fantastic host and had a solution already in the cabin for every one of our small problems. The cabin gets very warm and cozy in the winter and the outdoor toilet is clean. Nothing but 5 stars all around.

We loved our winter stay at the cabin and the new sauna was fantastic. Snowy walks in nearby woods, skiing trails so close, and winter festivities in Marquette kept us busy. Great accommodations with the kitchen and the masonry fireplace made it easy to feel comfortable and fed. Our hosts provided every detail and answered all our questions so we always felt really taken care of. We loved Orchard cabin.

The hike from parking to tent site is 1/4 mile on a well-marked hilly path. Site 2, The Garden Site, is 100 feet from the stream and campers can drive to and park their vehicles at the site. Site 3, Mountain View Cabin, includes an outhouse and sauna. Sites have picnic tables, fire pits, and an outhouse. Campers are responsible for removal of all other waste. The 2-foot wide stream provides water for washing, but is not considered potable, and use of filters or boiling water is recommended. These isolated sites are beautiful and rustic and nestled in the midst of the Noquemanon Trail Network (cross country skiing and mountain biking) and North Country Trails and are approximately 2 miles from Lake Superior, Harlow Lake and Dead River. 4 kayaks/paddles/life vests and a 12 foot boat are available for camper use. Bear Tree Homestead is nestled among the cliffs and ravines which drains the south face of Hogback Mountain located in Marquette Township Michigan. Hogback Mountain is one of the larger rock formations in the Huron Range, a surprisingly rugged, and diverse region of low mountains carved by glaciers. Each cabin is hand-built of log and stone using traditional Scandinavian building tools and techniques. These sites are on a seasonal road so travel in and out can be impeded at times due to weather or external forces, such as tree falls, wash outs, etc. This is a self sufficient homestead in the making. Our garden has progressed greatly, and our fruit tree orchards are starting to produce. The free range chickens are fun and quirky, offering farm fresh eggs. We just opened our second site, the Prairieview Chalet 2024 summer. Both sites offer great amenities. The Acorn Retreat cabin includes a hot tub, gas weber grill and other amenities. The bouchee outhouse is shared by both sites and is cleaned regularly. The new Prairieview Chalet is an exceptional adventurers haven! Bear Lake Meets da Yellow Dog

Your host property is 13 acres between the Yellow Dog River, and Bear Lake, with frontage on both. The Yellow Dog River is a legendary trout stream, and many artists have found that the river satisfies their need for the wild. There are two cabin sites available, One overlooking Bear Lake with sunset views, and the other a cabin that was moved to the property in 1999 to preserve it. Both sites share amenities such as the outhouse, communal fire pit and water, but the cabins are not in close proximity so everyone has their privacy. They are both rustic cabins having no running water, or electricity. A futon with mattress cover is provided in each cabin along with a table and chairs. See the individual site descriptions for more details. We are 20 miles (app) north of Marquette, which is my home town. It is a destination for bikers, skiiers, and outdoor rec folk! There are so many things to see and do in Marquette, so make sure to plan enough time to check out the town! Also, just six miles to our north is historic Big Bay. A lumber town back in the day, it is full of history. Check out the Thunder Bay Inn, where parts of Anatomy of a Murder, starring Jimmy Stewart and Lee Remick were filmed. Don't miss going to the Lumberjack to see where the actual murder took place, either! You will find good eats and perhaps even some live music at either establishment. You'll also find everything you need in the way of groceries, and gas at Cram's General Store, where there's also a laundromat. Burns landing just north of the marina has the historic Burns family home renovated in a park setting, and a public beach access to mighty Lake Superior. This park has picnic tables and grills, and even a handicap accessible outhouse and trail to the lake. Yellow Dog falls is a short drive on Co. Road 510, and on the way be sure to climb Thomas Rock overlook. There are new bike trails if you're into that as well! Stay awhile. You'll be glad you did! We strive to offer peace and serenity to our guests, and love to share these woods with those needing tranquility and respite from a busy world. In this sensitive environmental area, we have only two sites to keep traffic down, enhance our visitors experience, and to protect the wildlife here. Unplug with us, eh!

Hello, and welcome to Superior Times Resort and Campground! We would like to take a moment and introduce ourselves. Our names are Tom and Heather Holmstrom. We were married in 2016 and have four children as part of our blended family. We are both originally from the Upper Peninsula. Superior Times and Resort was the result of us wanting to do something “outside of the box” that would allow us to raise our family and showcase our love and respect for the beauty of the Upper Peninsula…the area that many refer to as “God’s Country.” In December of 2016, we mistakenly pulled into the driveway of this property. At that time, it was known as Coleman’s Paradise Resort. There was a For Sale sign marking the property. We both knew at that point our fate was sealed to become this property’s new owners. We learned that this property had been a family vacation destination for nearly 100 years. We could only imagine the special memories that had been made here over the years! We wanted to become a part of that deep history.Through the many years of the resort’s history, the owners had changed and the cabins were showing true signs of their age. We knew there was A LOT of work that simply had to be done. On a wing and prayer, we somehow made this great resort ours. In April of 2017, we opened what we named Superior Times Resort and Campground. We pulled up or sleeves and went to work! We began this resort’s transformation by replacing nearly all of the roofs. We then added the campground (we are most proud of the campground, as it did not exist prior to our ownership). In the winters we worked on the inside of the cabins, which is what we continue working on to this day. We have completely remodeled 3 cabins; Eagle Harbor, Copper Harbor and Isle Royal. Smaller projects are being continually worked on in the other cabins. Slowly but surely, we are turning this property into our vision. The harsh winter of 2018/2019 led to two roof collapses and even more work!! In 2020, we designed and built rustic bungalows in our campground for nightly rental. Please, take a walk down Backwoods Alley and check them out. In the winter of 2020/2021, we built new custom showers in 3 cabins and replaced the old siding on Eagle Harbor and Copper Harbor. We think the new cedar shakes complete the rustic feel we are aiming for. In the spring of 2021, we added 4 new campsites and built a new bath house for our campers. We also ordered new windows for Tahquamenon Falls and Mackinaw Island, however due to the pandemic we did not receive them in time for installation (insert angry emoji). It has been so rewarding having customers return to this resort and commenting so favorably on the changes we have made! What will 2022 bring? Stay tuned.We could not have done ANY of the resort changes without the help and support of my parents, Roger and Marcia Hart. They sold their own home to live out here full time to be a part of the resort’s transformations. Without them, this dream would not have been possible. They truly define the saying, “labor of love,” as we often can only pay them with love. Our dream truly became their dream, as well.
