What stood out to me was the helpfulness and friendliness of our Robb and Jeanne. Our site was clean and private. Loved the sound of the wind through the pine trees.

Perfect little car camping spot next to a driveway by a small house and garage with a little farm behind it. I stayed there 2 nights and felt safe and enjoyed the proximity to Traverse City, etc. It’s mostly quiet except a little traffic on the road, which is no big deal and if it is, wear some earplugs. The host is very nice and welcoming. Super easy. Would book it again!

AWESOME base camp for trail riding at Hungerford. The campsite was huge, flat, and private, with water and electricity. What more could you ask?? Very quiet. Perfect balance of sun and shade. Plenty of room for the horse trailer, travel trailer, and portable corral. My dogs were in heaven exploring the property and we felt completely safe letting them do so. No place for them to get in trouble. We really appreciate that Steven was so quick to respond when our other reservation fell through. He saved our vacation!

Since only one other site on the opposite end of the property was occupied, it was very peaceful and we had a lot of space to play soccer, bike and run around with our kids. The street is noticeable but not too dominant. Dean and Jackie are very welcoming hosts. Great communication and well given direction on how to find their property. You buy plenty of dry firewood for a fair price. Our kids loved playing in the woods and creek adjacent to our site. The outpost is very basic though. The campground is in a great location, close to Manistee and the many wonderful nature areas.

4 nights at Northern Michigan Getaway

Our host Dan was fantastic. He’s gone above and beyond to make sure you have a great stay. An outhouse, outdoor but private shower, level well maintained camp sites, electric hook ups and water hook ups are just some of the things that make your stay so fantastic. It is very peaceful and there is plenty of space to swing your camper around and back right into your spot. We really enjoyed out stay and will definitely camp here again.

Dan was a super host. He met me upon arriving and checked on me daily to ensure I had everything I needed. Dan also gave me tips for places to go in the area and provides each camper with a packet of tourist information. The site was great, plenty of room and just as described. Would definitely return.

The SOL Homestead

The SOL Homestead is a small but growing homestead with a focus on community. We raise chickens, ducks, pigs and cattle on pasture. The property is rolling acres with hardwood, pine, brush and open land with several miles of mowed trails. The terrain makes is very private and secluded, not a building or road (other than the driveway) is visible from the campsite. Wildlife abounds with regular sitings of deer, turkey, bald eagles, redtail hawks, grouse, pheasant, songbirds, and the list keeps going. The stars explode overhead when the sun drops behind the hills. The farm is over the hill and through the woods, you might occasionally hear a rooster crow, but otherwise you won't even know we are there. Located a short 20-25 minutes south of Traverse City, all the area attractions including Old Mission Peninsula, Leelanau Peninsula, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Manistee River, wineries, fishing, boating and countless other attractions. The Kingsley Farm Market on Wednesdays from 3:00pm to 7:00pm is a fun local event featuring great local farmers and often live music. We are currently offering one basic/rustic campsite, on a large flat(ish) site with picnic table and fire ring. There will be a Porta John for a toilet (May-October) and no access to water or electric at this time. There is plenty of room for any type of camper or several tents. If there is enough interest, we plan to add several more campsites and perhaps a glamping site, water, electric, and an outdoor shower in the future. We are minutes from award winning fishing spots on the Big Manistee, Little Manistee, Bear Creek Trout Streams and the Platte River. There are many opportunities to canoe, kayak and paddle board. We are 10 minutes from the Lake Michigan shore, and many beaches are close by. You have a choice of gorgeous sand beaches with picturesque dunes, and rocky beaches for those looking for fossils, agates, beach glass and beautiful beach stones. We are within an hour of Sleeping Bear Dunes which has award winning hiking. Traverse City is 40 minutes away with many activities, especially the Cherry Festival. The area is known for live music venues, and lots of weekend art festivals. Manistee is also home to the Little River Casino. We have firepits at each campsite, dry firewood is available to purchase, feel free to pay by cash, Venmo or CashApp, cost is $11.00 a wheelbarrow. Fresh flowers are available to purchase, seasonally. An outhouse is available for use and is supplied with toilet paper and hand sanitizer. There is a garbage can and recycling bin near the outhouse. We installed a water hydrant so you can get potable water to bring back to your site, or hose off with on the spot. A scenic small creek runs by many of the campsites. This site is accessible by a gravel driveway that leads to secluded land perfect for your camping getaway. There is tree cover, but also open areas. We have a designated area for camping that includes a fire pit, ground level metal deck, and a comfortable outhouse. There is no power or running water. Experience camping for real! (fun fact: this property has been passed down four generations of women!) We are near downtown Manton, downtown Mesick, and downtown Cadillac. Our favorite places to visit are Dayhuff lake (10 minute drive), numerous seasonal roads and trails, the Manistee River, Traverse City (45mins), Emerald Vale Golf Course (10 minutes), and Pleasant Valley Amish market for baked goods (5 min). Notes based on feedback that we've gotten from campers: -the driveway is steep, as seen in the listing photos. The recommendation for trailer size should be followed (18ft trailer max, plus 17ft car/truck). There is a corner at the top of the hill that might be tight for anything larger. I will note that there is a review where someone made it through with a 21ft trailer plus their vehicle; proceed as you will with this information.

Echo Valley Forest Reserve is a backcountry site located deep within the forest near the center of Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore, ten minutes from Empire Beach, Glen Haven, and Glen Arbor. The camp site is completely private, with only party rented to at a time. It is in the center of a 40-acre parcel, surrounded by thousands of acres of National Lakeshore and private forested land. Access is off of a rough seasonal two-track but most 2-wheel drive cars are fine. Watch out for rocks. There are solar lights, a pit toilet, a fire ring, and a ~8x8' deck. There is room for 4 cars, and as many tents as you can set up. We have 4 rules: 1) Leave no trace. Do not leave garbage at camp. DO NOT BURN garbage, people cook in that pit. 2) NO cutting into the live trees. You will get a 0-star review, 100% of the time. 3) Keep cars on the gravel driveway. 4) Put out all fires completely (COLD) and respect any Burn Bans that may be active at the time of your stay.
