The big barn was built over 100 years ago and is still standing. The farm house was built in 1907. It has been remodeled with a second story added. Pine trees were planted to prevent erosion in the 1960's. The national park began buying land near us in the 1970's and the boundary line to the park is a half-mile from Moonshadow Camp. We learned that this property had been a family vacation destination for nearly 100 years. We could only imagine the special memories that had been made here over the years! We wanted to become a part of that deep history. Through the many years of the resort’s history, the owners had changed and the cabins were showing true signs of their age. These sites are on a seasonal road so travel in and out can be impeded at times due to weather or external forces, such as tree falls, wash outs, etc. This is a self sufficient homestead in the making. Our garden has progressed greatly, and our fruit tree orchards are starting to produce. The free range chickens are fun and quirky, offering farm fresh eggs. We just opened our second site, the Prairieview Chalet 2024 summer. Both sites offer great amenities. The Acorn Retreat cabin includes a hot tub, gas weber grill and other amenities. The boujee outhouse is shared by both sites and is cleaned regularly. The new Prairieview Chalet is an exceptional adventurers haven! It has all the things you want after a day(s) out in the wilderness, with amenities like a hot shower, fully stocked kitchen, linens and more. Our property reflects our love of the land and space. We are always making improvements, such as the timber framed chicken coop. We now have a ping pong table for our guests, and still offer farm fresh eggs. (Usually changed every 3rd guest). Ac is hooked to an extension cord . We provide a Battery pump shower where you have to fill the bag with water & foot pump sink like used at festivals. The shack isn’t perfectly air tight so you might encounter a few bugs however with Chickens around they are natural bug exterminators. Ceiling height it just at 6 ft meaning those taller than that need to Duck under beams. Please beware. *summer info : Lake can only be viewed from the upstairs of shack due to tall reeds or by way of walking path which is still under construction partially handmade from scrap lumber . It’s about 2/3 complete with newly built dock, sections (see pics). The path is usually partially underwater until mid May so please check if you plan to kayak you will use at your own risk. *:It’s too mucky to swim right off shore but you can Kayak out to the swimming area. Kayak use is allowed as long as waiver is signed. Closed toed/water shoes recommended . Potential for 4 guests which is tight, or more if part of your crew wanted to set up a tent. *Fall/winter info: Use of our guest bathroom is permitted during colder months -just ask!. Keep in mind, The only heat will be a 1500 watt heater.

Weekend Trip to Tiny Love Shack Off Grid Glamping

Julie was a fantastic host! She checked in after our first night to see if we had everything we needed. We spent a weekend here as part of a greater road trip cross-country and we had a swell time. The views of the lake are gorgeous and the loft sleeping accommodations were super cozy! After we left we realized that we left some near and dear prized possessions (a special hat and one single ear bud) and Julie was kind enough to reach out and then mail these items to us! We are super thankful and do kindly recommend staying

Weekend Trip to Dragon Adventures Base Camp

I had a quiet and peaceful stay at Dragon, Adventure Base Camp. Mark was an excellent host. I had an opportunity to slay the dragon and bike the complete distance around Hardy pond during my stay. I would highly recommend this hip camp. I will be back.

This Lil’ cabin was such a wonderful stay after a day of hiking nearby trails! It had all the creature comforts needed to keep warm, heat up water for cocoa, and the cleanest porta john nearby! The host was very kind and gracious with lit lamps to find the bathroom. We definitely plan to be back in the future!

The cabin was so adorable and it was perfectly warm all night with the little wood stove. Beds were comfortable and I usually have back pain but no issue with the mattresses! The property was beautiful and the host was so kind, he gave is a tour of the cabin and showed us how everything worked, in the morning my dad wanted to see the other cabin and he gave us a mini tour of that one as well. They have a dog on the property but he's super sweet, no barking heard at all. Lovely fall colors and just 15 minutes away from the Muskegon state park off lake Michigan (highly recommend for hikes or picnic). Would come again!

1 night at Blooming Bus Farms

The place looked great when we arrived, especially lit up at night. Inside, it had that familiar campfire-and-wood smell that made it feel comfortable right away. The heated blanket was the saving grace of the stay. It was in the 30s, and the small radiator heater struggled to keep up, so most of the evening was spent bundled up together under the blanket. The cabin is very small, and the property itself isn’t large either, so you can hear some street noise. Being close to town was convenient, though. We grabbed Chinese carry-out and it was surprisingly good after a cold day. Leslie was thrilled to meet the alpacas, which added a fun moment to the trip. There are several areas set up for groups, and I would definitely come back with friends. The space works well for hanging out and enjoying a simple, low-key getaway.

Really cool spot! Host said we could take any site since we were the only ones there! It was too dark to find the beach site but after walking over to it, it was beautiful. Highly recommend if you need to stay in the area!

Ed’s Grand Cabin was just what we needed for a weekend getaway! The wood stove kept the cabin nice and warm as we had some cold weather and even a little bit of snow as the winter season approaches. It was a nice, quiet space to relax, cook, and enjoy a fire inside and outside the cabin. We enjoyed a walk on the well maintained trails around the property! Definitely would return in the future!

We loved our time in the Tiny Love Shack! It's definitely tiny, just enough room for the two of us and our big dog. It felt surprisingly private for being so close to neighbors. It was a bit musty in November, but that's to be expecting of glamping!

Weekend Trip to Dalton Traders Tents RV's Cabins

Spent the weekend at Ed's with my boyfriend during late October, when the leaves were changing. We were looking for a cozy getaway in the woods, and his cabin/land MORE than delivered. His cabin was stocked with everything (+ some) to keep us entertained, while locking ourselves away from the hustle and bustle of weekly work. Fortunately, we didn't get much cell service here, which gave us the opportunity to be fully disconnected. We filled our days hiking his many trails scattered throughout his beautiful woods, and tending to the outside fire ring and maintaining the fire in the mini wood stove in the cabin. Ed's cabin provided us with the most relaxing weekend and we cannot recommend it enough if you're needing a weekend to slow down, pause, and reflect on your never-ending To-Do list. We will certainly be back in the future! Thank you Ed, for creating such a space like "Dalton Traders Lil' Cabin" for people like us, to enjoy the beautiful luxury of being able to immerse ourselves in the great outdoors.

Weekend Trip to Blooming Bus Farms

Had a wonderful weekend at Bloomin Farm. The campsite was well tended and Melissa had left the wood we purchased near the fire pit as well as a lovely welcome sign and flowers. We had our own compost toilet and in warmer weather there is a hot shower tent on the campsite as well. There is some road noise but it was not bothersome at all. And our second night the farm hosted a Halloween event with food and live music, which was great fun and Melissa gave us plenty of warning so we knew it was happening. Would definitely stay there again!

3 nights at CUT RIVER CABIN AT HIGGINS LAKE

Beautiful setting, and a well-equipped rustic cabin! Jeremey was incredibly helpful answering our questions ahead of the trip, and made sure everything was ready for our arrival. So peaceful and relaxing! Our husky Tala loved being able to explore. We loved the covered deck, the sauna, and being able to use the canoes on the crystal clear river. Can’t wait to visit again during different times of the year!

It was great! The ambiance at night was incredible. We had crappy weather while we were there (rained 4 of the 5 days 😅) but we still had a great time. The yurt made the trip doable even with the rain. We’ll definitely be back!
