Hosting May 22 - mid/Oct My husband Dan and I purchased this property 6 years ago and have totally restored the land, home and barn from its prior condition. Consequently, if you view the various on line satellite images be advised they are out of date and do not reflect the love we have put into our sanctuary. We are retired and live here with our two standard poodles Mila and Indiana.
The property is 5 acres, mostly meadow with a maple grove as well as a wooded ravine. We have planted various fruit trees, cherries, apples, peach as well as pears. We also have a small grape and berry patch which is next to our vintage trailer. There is also an old abandoned trail through the forest that makes for a nice walk.
Our location is convenient to Traverse City, Alden, Belaire, Kalkaska as well as the equestrian center and the casino in Williamsburg. There are various places to eat/drink within close proximity as well as places to purchase fuel, groceries and liquor.
Old Mission and Leelanau peninsulas are a convenient drive where you can visit the many vineyards, orchards, shops and enjoy the beautiful vistas of the lake and bays, or shop some of the unique stores and galleries.
There are many off road vehicle and bike trails that are not far away as well. As well as boating on beautiful Torch Lake and the chain of lakes.
A day trip to Sleeping Bear dunes is well worth the drive.
We would be happy to make suggestions on activities, dining, entertainment during your stay.
We currently have three sites which are on seperate areas of the property. Lake View site is a Vintage 1985 Avion travel trailer which as been completely renovated with all new systems. It is located with a western view of Lake Skegemog and next to our grape and berry patch in our back yard. Maple Grove site is a new Coachmen Catalina Destination series RV. It is located on the front side of the property next to the maple tree grove. Lavender Lane is located in front of our barn with a view of our small orchard and the forest, close to the walking trail. All our sites are fully outfitted with quality linens, towels, dishes and cooking equipment. All of the units have Air Conditioned and heat.
New this year is our chicken coop and run. We (Bill) has always wanted chickens.

These sites are on a seasonal road so travel in and out can be impeded at times due to weather or external forces, such as tree falls, wash outs, etc. This is a self sufficient homestead in the making. Our garden has progressed greatly, and our fruit tree orchards are starting to produce. The free range chickens are fun and quirky, offering farm fresh eggs. We just opened our second site, the Prairieview Chalet 2024 summer. Both sites offer great amenities. The Acorn Retreat cabin includes a hot tub, gas weber grill and other amenities. The boujee outhouse is shared by both sites and is cleaned regularly.
The new Prairieview Chalet is an exceptional adventurers haven! It has all the things you want after a day(s) out in the wilderness, with amenities like a hot shower, fully stocked kitchen, linens and more.
Our property reflects our love of the land and space. We are always making improvements, such as the timber framed chicken coop. We now have a ping pong table for our guests, and still offer farm fresh eggs.

Neebish Island is remote. Access is via a car ferry from Barbeau, MI, and cell reception is limited—plan for a digital detox. You'll need to research and plan around the car ferry schedule, which is limited to a few runs per/day.
This is a great spot for campers, vanlifers, paddlers, and freighter fans who appreciate quiet, history, and open sky. Interior access to the historical house is not included, but the land is yours to enjoy.

We had a fantastic stay! The camper was spotless, comfortable, and thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed. The outdoor spaces were beautiful, and relaxing in the hot tub after a day of exploring was the perfect way to unwind.
Dan and Bill were wonderful hosts: friendly, welcoming, and full of great recommendations for things to do in the area. We especially enjoyed visiting Sleeping Bear Dunes, Glen Haven, the Cherry Festival in Traverse City, and renting a kayak on Torch Lake.
If you're looking for a peaceful getaway with easy access to Northern Michigan's best attractions, I highly recommend staying here. We'd happily come back again!

We ended up not staying here. Our travel plans changed within 24 hours of booking and Hipcamp wouldn't refund us due to the property's strict cancellation policy. I would be more careful booking in the future. I hear this is a great property, but it definitely left a bad taste in my mouth.

We loved staying at Maple Grove. The RV was comfortable with all the things we needed. Whenever we had a problem (a storm knocked out one of the A/C units) or needed something (spices and a grill) Bill was very responsive and resolved it. The outdoor space is beautiful and inviting. The hot tub was amazing after hiking earlier in the day. The location was great; quiet, secluded, and out of the way yet close enough to Traverse City, Torch Lake, cute towns like Elk Rapids and Alden, and Sleeping Bear Dunes. Bill and Dan are excellent hosts, and have done an incredible job restoring their property. We'd recommend staying with them at any of their sites, but we will definitely be back to Maple Grove!

This spot was the perfect remote location for camping! The screened in porch was a major plus because of all the bugs. We loved swimming in the river and hanging out on the dock. Make sure you pack all the food, water, etc you need for the trip because there isn’t a store on the island. Would definitely return to camp here!!

Our hosts Anne and Jonathan were so kind and thoughtful. They went the extra length to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The highlight for our kids was having total freedom, access to all the toys and fun things around the farm/yard, and lots of space to run around. The outdoor shower was excellent. It was very wet and rainy, so thankfully there was an undercover camp kitchen. Be aware, lots of mosquitoes are inevitable - come prepared! We found that sandalwood incense sticks worked really well as a perimeter around our campsite.

We hope to get back to the Traverse City area (this was our first time) and we would absolutely return to Dan and Bill's HillCrest!
The best accommodations (all we needed to bring were our food and clothes!) Our RV (Maple Grove Catalina) had everything else we needed... even a Keurig with some pods, cocktail shaker, toaster, small blender, and I think there was also a pressure cooker and crockpot. Even a small dishwasher and washer/dryer combo!
Absolutely beautiful property!! Quiet, peaceful, just truly GREAT.
AND, Bill and Dan are genuinely very gracious and interesting hosts who care about the details. If we weren't 350+ miles away, we'd be inviting them over for dinner.

We loved our stay on this beautiful farm just outside of Midland. Augie met us as we pulled in, and showed us where to park. We appreciated that the parking pad was well graded to stay dry despite the recent rain. Kelly came out to tell us some good places to eat in Midland. After that first day they left us in peace for our three day stay.
We loved the views across the fields in all directions, and the fireflies rising up from the lawn in the evenings. The spot is on a side road , so not a lot of privacy, but also not much going on this farm road out in the country.
Loved Midland, so much to do! We rode bikes on the Pere Marquette rail trail, visited Dow Gardens and the canopy walk, enjoyed the Chippewa Nature Preserve, and of course The Tridge!
They were lovely hosts, and we would absolutely love to come back to stay again, if we come back through Midland area again.
